This group had talent and rocked Deb was a great singer with an amazing vocal what are you talking about. I mean who has had a better female fronting a band. They are the biggest selling female fronted band EVER. I think that says it all. Watch the video for the song Calmarie and tell me Deb wasn't a great sing. The charts/radio was mostly a male dominant rock world in the 70s. She had balls to be competing against men. That's what give her the strong blonde attitude that all followers stole.
It wasn't really about talent. There have been better singers and better musicians, but sometimes something just works. Deborah Harry was and remains the most magnetic and engaging prescence that ever walked onto a stage, and if you watch, she does it all so effortlessly. I loved Blondie's music, still do, but in Deborah they had a one-off, someone who induces awe, and is loved equally by men and women alike. Apart from Marilyn Monroe there has never been anyone to compare to her.
truly a fabulous lady , awesome ,wonderful, she is so fabulous there's never been anyone who came close to her in looks, charisma, and sound combined , the whole package is just one huge WOW
Wow. Saw Blondie at the Hammersmith Odeon summer 1978. She came on stage in a schoolgirl outfit and the band crashed into "Denise Denis". Just fantastic.
@39thejust1 THAT IS CLASSIC! ha! ha! ha! Not many women can EVER claim to have a face and a voice that can generate THAT level of exitement in a male! Actually probably none!
@hullamajascot1 Well looks aren't everything. I think a lot of Deborah Harry's appeal was that she was a combination of unusual looks and more importantly, she seemed natural and unpretentious. Unlike today's female singers. I think the sincerity of her personality can be seen when ever she looks into the camera.
Picture This is a great song but its really strange to think that this was the first single from the Paralell Lines album. Heart of Glass had to wait to be the third single and Sunday Girl the fourth single. Did their record company not see how great those two songs were?
@MrTUCTUC1 That's because the record company knew they had a great album from Blondie and there was no need to bring out the big guns first. They knew there were lots of singles on this album so they released the better ones later to build up and hype the expectations so the next song was better than the previous. Good tactic I thought and of course PL is one of the greatest pop albums ever!
More genuine sex appeal in the tip of her little finger than all those stupid "try hard bimbo pop tarts of today COMBINED! Ain't nothing like the REAL thing baby!
@EssexBoy696969 Yeah mate, but i think most women are gonna come up very short at best along side DH in her prime. And that's before we talk about her music/song writing, her dynamic style and her incredibly unique singing voice that will always be remembered. Not to mention she is a naturally classy woman. I seriously doubt ANY female is EVER gonna get near her. You only ever get 1 of these..... EVER!
@NormbrettaMod Because sex is the most important thing on the planet, so sex appeal is a MAJOR issue for every male. Or none of us would ever reproduce would we. Rock Music and sex have always gone hand in hand
but sex and music are too different things. you don't need sex appeal to be credited as a decent musician...unless you're a crap musician; in which case sex appeal is the only way to get popular.
@NormbrettaMod Sex and Music are two different things? Yes and No. It Depends i guess. You certainly don't need sex appeal to be a GREAT MUSICIAN or singer. But if you have talent and sex appeal, like Debbie Harry its greAT. But having said that, some of the GREATEST FEMALE singers were not blessed with any sex appeal. Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, Momma Cass. If you have it great, but if you don't, so what, don't worry about it, let your talent take you where you wanna go!
I was only 11 when this came out, but like all the boys at school was just crazy about Blondie, she was every pre pubscent school boy's wet dream come true, she could sing pretty good too (lol)
@Meadoway40 "Splash out" on Deborah Harry...Ha! Ha! Ha! Ive never herd it put that way but its true! How could any male look at that face and not get very excited?
Debbie is the brains of the group no doubt about it even Chris,Jimmy & Clem have said it in interviews. she may act crazy and wacky but she had it all worked out along time ago. Now these days Debbie pleases herself and no one else. she has carried everyone of them guys good musicians or not. She is the star of the show. Even Frank to this day say's he loves her. In years to come it will be her face you see in art museums not the band.she carries the legacy.
Frank Infante and Nigel Harrison left the band in the 80s, tried to sue Debbie & Chris over the name of the band when it was clear that Debbie though of the name, Blondie had an album out before these guys even joined. These 2 were with Blondie for 4yrs. On the night of the RnR HoF they turn up and asked could they play looking abit crazy. Debbie said can't you see I'm with my band the 2 new guitarist had been with the reformed band for near 10yrs. these guys never even said sorry.... go figure
i went saw Blondie at the Starwood in LA after i had bought their first 3 albums.
a nice small punk club. i stood right at the stage,,and all i remember is i think i was watching Marilyn Monroe on speed,,,singing some of the best songs i had ever heard.
With such wonderfully expressive eye's and that stunningly beautiful face she should have been a Hollywood Movie Star! Thanks to the feminazi's, the 80's and 90's, 2000's sucked balls for beautiful hot looking female actresses.
Meryl Streep..Yuck...Rene Russo...Yuck...Gena Davis...Yuck....Julia Roberts...So so...jennifer Anniston...Ho-Hum...Angelina Jolie...Crazy Brat Doll
These are all Actresses women like, not men, just like in the Music industry. Bring back the smokin hot female like D.H!
@crapple009 Extremely underated lead Guitarist was Frankie. Probably because their music wasnt based around Guitar lead breaks and power riffs like most Rock/pop/Punk bands of that time. Blondies unique sound was due to Clem Burke's intense high hat & symbles power punch drumming and Deborahs silky vocals. I really wish they had of done a lot more Harder Heavier stuff like "Detroit 442" wher Frankie's Guitar skills could be put on show. I like his strange look too!
@boltonox Yeah, plus having great keyboards courtesy the fabulous Jimmy Destri probably had something with that, too, though I'd never have it any other way.
Re his look- always reminded me of a younger Keef Richard!
@crapple009 Yeah he does, but without Keef's seediness. Its a shame he and the bassist sued Deborah and Chris. I watched a doco where Deborah and Chris spoke about it and she said neither of them even came and talked to them prior to proceeding with litigation. Probably due to Chris Stien's nature more so than Deborah i would guess. Jimi Destri wasnt to happy with the way they kicked him out of the band either. He indicated that Chris was the one behind the decision. A really badly managed band.
@boltonox Yeah, Mike Chapman (bless him) claims it was a band of friction yet one that made magic. Chris couldn't stand Frankie as he was apparently intimidated by Frankie's flawless prowess on the fretboard whereas he should've been happy by it.
Imho, they should've buried the hatchet (even if momentarily) for the Parallel Lines 30th Anniversary tour but blew it. At least Kiss was able to reunite for their reunion tour and then resumed the current band when it finished. Just saying..
@crapple009 Agree 100% very unprofesionally even after all this time! Unbelievably DUMB! You can see why this group could never last. The dynamics of a super star female lead singer, involved and to some degree influenced by another member was always going to end up "Them Vs Us senario. Chris is a great hooks writter but comes across as a really annoying know it all intelectual wanker who would be devisive in a band situation rather than constructive. Sorry but thats the impression i get.
@boltonox Good point. The same "excuse" was given about the RnRHoF fiasco when ex-members wanted to play with the band and they were refused because the group leaders had no idea as they hadn't been consulted. If I were one of the leaders of that band, it would be my responsibility to take the initiative to sort out any possible sticky situation before it arose. Just a little common sense, that's all.
On top of that a (very talented) key song-writing member is sacked (and sorely missed).
@crapple009 Like i said, the leader of Blondie was always Cris Stein, so i wasnt supprised at all when that b.s happened at the RnR HoF presentation. He new they would be getting inducted so he would have been aware that Blondie would be performing. Obviously a decision was made by Cris & Deb prior to that event to refuse to let the other original members particapate at the RnR HoF . The fans were the losers and they embaressed themselves in front of everyone. A typical dumb Selfish act by Cris
How the fuck does a guy split-up with a woman like this? Seriously, Chris Stein's bad illness in the 80's must have affected his mental faculties or something. Aside from having the most beautiful face I've ever seen as well as her insane singing and performing talent, she really seems a genuinely sweet woman when ever I've seen her interviewed. I'd really love to meet her more than anyone i can think of. If your out there Deborah talk to me.
@nigel65deck Oh i see...well at least that makes a bit more sense. Thanks for letting me know that nigel. Do you know who she's dating now? I find her to be the most fascinating women i've ever seen. Growing up in the 80's i never really gave "Blondie" the musical and artistic credit they deserved or realised what a uniquely talented individual Deborah Harry really was. Unfortunately wisdom tends to come when one is older.....and the moment has passed.
@nigel65deck You lucky bastard! Right then im comming over for a beer then. Whats the address. Oh bye the way ill be taking your woman with me when i leave mate ok Ha! Ha! Ha!
@boltonox I am in Berlin. I DJ here often and when I always play a couple of Blondie songs. I still really like the music and so does everyone else it seems. Austrailia is where they had there first hit cool.
@nigel65deck Hallo nigel65deck! Berlin aye...i don't mind a bit of ramstien myself mate ha ha. Yeah your right Blondie had their first success in Oz. I still remember when they came to Oz in 1978 to tour. They appeared on "count down" our national music show which was shown live every week. It was hillarious because poor Debrorah was off her face and the host Molly Meldrum didnt know what to do! Ive Had quite a few nights like that myself!
Just watched it couple more times, forgot how perfect she was in every way, probably my first true love! Real beauty achieved without hardly any effort, unlike the plastic trouts of today who are of the same age!
debbie..im in newcastle upon tyne.england...will you marry me..ive loved you for 31yrs, i sat in my room alone on newyears eve listnin to your 1979 gig at glasgow apollo..so ive served my time..say yes..please
@r92g You are indeed a very cool and hip 18 yr old considering most people your age are into the crap that's on the radio now and that they don't even know who Blondie is.
If you like this music, get on your new fangled gadgets like the pods and blueberries and demand that radio stations play it! You can rid the airwaves of this negative hip pop and have fun like I did. Do it!

Just watched it couple more times, forgot how perfect she was in every way, probably my first true love! Real beauty achieved without hardly any effort, unlike the plastic trouts of today who are of the same age!

Do it!
