Prince wrote this song when George Clinton previously was quoted saying that Prince couldn't write a soul song. This track was the response. George Clinton eventually did do some material with Prince. And yes I agree probably the most talented artist to walk on this planet he's that good.

Stephanie Mills did a version as well as Alicia Keys). I LOVE this version, being a piano player, for me, it just does not get any better than the piano in this- thanks again! ;-D

@fede4real no, no, I am a HUGE fan of MJ. I am just saying eho has the upper end in each. I think Mj is a greater SINGER than prince, but Prince has the instrumental skills. Prince mesmorises people by his musicianship, and MJ mesmorized people with his moves and voice, ENTERTAINING.
@spacecase3196 Prince is definately an instrument virtuoso miles ahead Mj in instrument skills no doubt. I happen to be an MJ fan but unlike most people IM not a fan mainly of his dance music videos performing that of course are awesome and pioneer.I think he is very underrated in the musical field,his vocal,composing songwriting and all around musicianship is underrated.MJ played several instruments and had an understanding of music very few got.

People got stacked with thriller and the moonwalk but this man worked so hard in MUSIC for 40 years learning creating and perfecting what you listen in his masterpieces.Other people was playing but he was there to say:do it this way

@debzi Nah. It's just personal opinion so it might be different, yet I don't think so. Michael is a genius. There is no doubt about it. But is he a "musical genius"? His "Off the Wall" and "Thriller" were co-produced by Quincy Jones, and his "Dangerous" was by Teddy Riley. Prince produced, recorded, sang, played instruments in his album. In some of his album, he definately did most of the works required. Even more amazing, he produced Madonna's "Like a Virgin" album.
@debzi Michael is a different kind of genius... in my opinion. He had a great imagination which was transformed into his dance and performances. Yet in terms of music, Michael needed help (it's not a shame at all. The important thing is the albums that came out as the result was fascinating) yet Prince didn't, or at least as much as Michael did. So, this is my argument that Prince is more of a "musical genius" :-)
@Teddy2M Agreed. Prince mastered 20 instruments by the age of twelve Michael only played piano. Now, In dance terms, you are right, Michael wins by a long shot but musically Prince burned the floor. I really like them both and they are both legendary. Both could sing amazingly though so I think is where they are tied talent wise.
