Wow it really gets old when people diss Joey Jordison. He's a great drummer and he's good at the style he's known for. Again, he's a great drummer but nowhere's near as good as Marco.
what's disappointing about Marco Minnemann is that he's so technically advanced, his groove skils will always be questioned. The best way to anwser if a drummer is grooving or not is the reaction of the crowd and if those who go and see him are dancing or grooving well then, I guess he can groove.

I teach middle school drummers who can sit and go RLRRLL all day long across the drum set. This guy is incredibly boring to watch and listen to. Also, check his tribute to Buddy Rich (yes I am a jazz drummer, I would mention that haha) Give him another chance. (:

Seeing Portnoy fans whining was annoying... but its kinda funny now that I get used to it, they bitch, moan, and complain even if they never heard the new DT material. I'm a MP fan myself, but I admit that there are better drummers out there, and I'm really looking forward to the next album, DT needed a change, they sounded a bit to straight in the recent albums.
Uhm portnoy is amazing but he was not a master of odd time signatures like marco. I totally agree with DT. Even though MP will be missed, i am looking forward to the future of the new dream theatre. 5/5

Marco has a lot of groove, too, but the thing that really sets them apart from Mike is his hand speed. I agree that Marco is better, but not because of his groove.

amazing chops but this solo looked too improvish - like he didn't plan anything at all and it was kinda random in the middle - great beginning and end though...

This same DVD has an amazing solo, called Extreme Soloing, where creates passages with very hard polyrhythms, using the kick snare on his right, the hi-hat pedal and soloing over that, among other things. This one you've uploaded is great, but nothing compared to that one.
That's the greatness of Marco Minnemann, complex polyrhythms and odd time signatures, among other things, like his versatility.

amazing chops but this solo looked too improvish - like he didn't plan anything at all and it was kinda random in the middle - great beginning and end though...
I get the feeling he wasn't really trying his best.

This same DVD has an amazing solo, called Extreme Soloing, where creates passages with very hard polyrhythms, using the kick snare on his right, the hi-hat pedal and soloing over that, among other things. This one you've uploaded is great, but nothing compared to that one.
That's the greatness of Marco Minnemann, complex polyrhythms and odd time signatures, among other things, like his versatility.

Just the fact that marco plays WITH the Buddy Rich band, DOES NOT MEAN HE IS A JAZZ MUSICIAN.
Ofcourse! each drummer can learn jazz!
Marco plays very often just Pop/rock/metal THAT'S HIS STYLE. nothing more nothing less.
