I've only read one of Patchett's books, "Truth and Beauty", the one about her strange friendship with Lucy Grealy, author of "Autobiography of a Face." I liked her writing but the book was hard to read. She and Grealy had one of the sickest relationships I ever heard of. Their "love" for each other was pathological co-dependence.

There should be a movie made for Bel Canto, one of the best books I've read.
