@Kmgaskell Always wrap his legs when you are working him, and keep your eye out for any swelling or heat. Either cold hose his legs or ice them after working.
I thought this video said horse no more! I was so scared cause I was just going through auto play on my suggestions and it scared me to death! Thanks so much for the video though. Interesting technology.
@hoofrise , that really wouldnt change anything cause its a bowed tendon. the hoof doesnt really cause it . mostly racehorses get it , but it can be caused by not warming the horse up or slipping , taking off from the gate .. etc
@HavenleighPark; What does the water do besides cool? I've never seen a set up like that. My mare has bowed tendons due to her previous owner's fat ass roping 500 lb steers off her when she was young. I wrapped her legs for the first couple years I had her, and haven't in awhile since she rides much better and seems to have recovered. How can you tell a recovery beyond the ride and attitude of the horse?
i have a horse that bowed....but its pretty much healed...he still wears wraps, polos, ice wraps at all times...and he is still racing and not a tad bit lame!
@niriton it cools their legs down and that prevents swelling or bruising. and with the bowed tendons it makes the swelling go down and it helps the tendons heal
@HavenleighPark well i rehabilitate ex race horses and a sure way to make a horse with a bow tendon sound is to give them a year of field rest very light riding and wrap their legs every time you ride. ice him at least 3 times a week as well
a bowed tendon is a term we use for horses that have sustained an injury that's caused the tendon fibers to be torn, and with most of them when they heal they have a bowed appearance.
Actually it really depends on how bad the bow is. We have a horse who has a bowed tendon and will never go to compete or jump higher then small cross rails. He had a more severe one but he will never be a super jumper or anything. Some have very minor ones that can healed but there are some who just have different cases.
vets quite often tell you to cold hose for injuries or swelling, and this saves us having to stand there for half an hour to an hour etc..... I know isn't he beautiful?! He's a real sweetie!
Fantastic! He is starting to be ridden twice a week now, and 'cause he is an ex racehorse, he is very confused about this whole "legs on his side" rubbish.
haha, my horse is terryified of getting her feet wet, so I use something called "Swedeclay" and it's GREAT!!!

why drench all four legs with only two bows?

Due to standing in the stall for an extended period of time he was getting a bit of swelling in his hinds.

If a horse gets a bowed tendon can the jump after it heals or what? Just do like dressage and stuff?
horsebackriders2 2 years ago
They can jump, I've seen horses go back to compete in 4 star eventing after 6 months.
