  • This did not work for me, I found a site where u can get any ringtone for free!!! That did work for me!!

  • Nice desktop, dude! Also, thanks for the tips.

  • Thanks to you, I can now put custom ringtones on my Iphone 3G. I didn't think it could be done -- thanks!!!

  • dude you can just use itunes on any iphone.. just open the ringtone thing in a new window, make both itunes and that window smaller and drag ur choons to the ringtone window

  • u also didnt mention an age restriction for the begining of this vid! hahaha

  • when i change the file to m4r it doesn't warn me of anything and i still can't get it to the ringtones.

  • I got it to work, for whatever reasons, it reset back to the default which with the default ring tones.

  • ok it worked on my 3gs. thanks

  • wont let me put the file into my itunes how do i do it -.-

  • @gohan73 Me too, when I drag it there it simply loads for a while and then stops and nothing happens.

  • cheers mate ur a legend

  • Thanks a lot brother. Works perfectly.

  • works perfectly

  • hey it only lets me put one ringtone on my 3gs is there any setting i need to adjust

  • i did everything you said but for some reason i cant drag and droop it in my ringtones in itunes. when i renamed it on my desktop it didnt give me a warning of anything like yours but i didnt think that was why. any idea what it is?

  • Worked great for me thanks for the help. One thing ill point out is you wont see your new 30 second ringtone until you make the song AAC a second time

  • thank u your the F&^%ING man everyone who is running on vista dont forget to do this as while

Go to control panel > appearances and personalization > folder options> view> uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"

  • hey many thx ive tryed so many times i did yours an bingo first go yippee its so simple when you know how lol

  • first one that I found that works! good job!

  • YOU ROCK!!! Thanks! I just created my own custom ringtone for my 3GS. FABULOUS!!!

  • YESSS!

out of all the forums, this video help me more than anything! Thanks dude. Lol even though I thought you screwed up at the end.

  • ugh... it wont let me change the ending. how do i get to the .mpr?

  • when you rename do you see the ".mp4?"

  • Go to control panel > appearances and personalization > folder options> view> uncheck "hide extensions for known file types"

It should now appear with a .m4a

  • @Mikeyondadrums You're right. It finally works now. Thanks a bunch.

  • did not work sadly. Can't seem to find settings to get to ringtones as there is nothing.

    :(

  • do u need to jail break ur phone to do this?

  • so easy thanks!

well a little SOMEWHAT tedious but it gets the job done!

to bad there's no fade in/out

  • hey yo! quick question...while i synced my first ringtone i lost all my music on my iphone. somehow it is either my music that i can have or then just the ringtone. the ringtone surely worked on my iPhone but it's not worth having if the price is that i dont have a music library anymore. Why did this happen?? any tips to prevent this??? i surely would like to get the ringtone, but now i synced back my songs and lost the ringtones... sigh!

  • On iTunes, click "Your Device" (or whatever your named your phone) to where it brings up the screen saying iPhone, version..etc. The bottom should say OPTIONS, underneath that you'll have "Automatically sync when iPod is connected"

    Uncheck that.

What is happeing is when you plug your phone up, it's automatically syncing only your ringtone and not your music. Check 'Manually manage music and videos'. Click yes. After that, all you have to do is drag the song files into your iPhone manually.

  • oh btw cheers for the brilliant tutorial!

  • does anyone have a clue why mine doesnt have the file extension on it, like i cant change the file extension im using vista..and once i do how do i get it to my iphone as a ringtone and use it

    thanks alot!!!

  • u need to go to control panel n allow file extensions to show, in the view bit of folder options

  • same problem here bud !

  • Thanks very much! Worked GREAT!!

  • Very good workaround to beat the apple money makers. Nice wall paper you have too!

  • worked exactly as it said. im on 3G 3.0.1 thanks man

  • i did everything right a couple of times and it says my custom ringtone is set but when some one calls it rings as the standard ringtone(Miramba)

  • okay so I triedto do this and made it all the way to where you paste it on the desktop. after this, when you go to switch it from m4a to m4r there is nothing there except for the name of the song?? how do i fix this, or does this mean the song is unable to be used.

  • He explained one step incorrectly. Before you start, go to Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Hide Extensions for Known File Types and make sure it's unchecked. He says to uncheck Show Hidden Files and Folders but that doesn't allow you to see the file extension that you change to m4r.

  • so the song u want cannot be from a store baught cd?

  • Good tutorial man

    n yeah nice background lol

  • nice background

  • Works a treat, cheers

  • how many can you have? anyone know how many custom ones you can have?

  • Worked perfectly for my 3GS. Thanks

  • My iTunes doesn't have an option to convert to AAC.

  • thanks fro teh tut, also your wallpaper made me jizz.

  • Ey, dude...all I saw was this hot chick and some dude speaking of something. And when I tried to focus...my eyes got lost in the hot chick instantly.

  • Thank you so much! I can't believe how easy it is. It's works great. I'm using ITunes 8.2.1.6 and I have the Iphone 3GS - 16GB.

    You've made my day!

  • How does one do this on Vista? I see no way to change it from m4a.

does any1 know how to fix this??

  • NEED HELP!!!! i cant convert the song in itunes to what it needs to be :(:(:( what do i do??? oh and sweet background

  • it works fine for one custom ringtone, but when i add more, it shows up on the iPhone as a duplicate of the previous one. can any1 help?

  • i had that problem too. the trick is to copy it to the ringtone library first then from the library drag and drop it to the ringtone folde on the iphone. hope that works for you!

  • did u ever get this resolved, cause i have the same problem

  • doesnt work, when i sync the iphone after putting the song into ringtone it does not appear on my iphone! any ideas?

  • I have the same issue. Seems to sync fine but then doesn't appear on the phone afterwards.

  • Awesome thanks works perfect

  • thanks man....

  • For people having problems seeing the file extension there is a simple fix, follows these simple steps and bingo.

Start - Control Panel - Apperance and Themes - Folder Options - View - UNCHECK hide extensions for known types.

    Good luck !!!

  • Thanks it worked.. I got a little confused in the video haha

  • When I go to change the file type to "m4r" there is no "m4a" there its just the original title of the song. any help? thanks

  • Everything works up until the part about changing the file to a m4r. I paste the song on my desktop and it doesn't have .m4a after the name. When I look at the properties its says m4a but i wont let me change it. HELP!!!!

  • PERFECTTTTTTT, thank you.

i've had mine for like a month.. haha, and NOT ONCE have i figured out how to do it, haha thank youu:)

  • did you say "WTF" at 3:12? lol

  • haha yeah he did

  • Thats really helpful man, thanks. I just got an iphone and was totally confused cause I used to always love makin my own custom ring tunes. Thanks :)

  • Cool. When I try to sync to the iphone though, it says something like "are you sure you want to sync ringtones, as all music will be lost" etc. Help please. Thanks.

  • make sure you have the music in your itunes tab selected to synch.

  • Worked perfectly, thanks man

  • Comment removed

  • dude ur like a genius!!!!!!! You`ve saved me from the next 2yrs of dogs barking belltowers and f***ing crickets. if i knew u id buy u a beer. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i dont have the ringtone category under my library.

  • Is that Gemma Atkinson in the back? :P

  • but i have windows vista :'(

  • Thanks it worked well but people have to remember to delete unwanted AAC files for it to work

  • its ok i got it :P

  • i dnt hav a ringtone thing in my library :S any help?

  • k its synced on but its not actually on my iphones ringtone bit?

  • Thanks man!

  • Hey guys, for those of you that are having trouble changing the file from m4a to m4r because your file name is not showing the .m4a bit, here's the solution. The vid poster made an error. The first step in my computer - folder options is to uncheck "Hide Extensions for Known File Types". The hidden folders can be checked or unchecked, it is irrelevant. Should fix it!

Awesome tutorial tho man, great job!

  • what version of iTunes do you use or does it even matter? Because it doesn't say "CONVERT SELECTION TO ACC" it says Create ACC

  • yea dude im same as you just hit tat one and continue with the rest of the vid

  • I changed all that shit around, and now my iphone won't show up when i plug it into my computer.... ?!?!?!?

  • what if at the end of the name of the file it only has a 1 and not a m4a? i cant use it?

  • not sure. Try making it a .m4r

  • what do you mean by 3rd party?

  • limewire is a 3rd party program. There's iTunes which you're "supposed to use" for your Mac products, but I use alternatives such as limewire. (napster is another 3rd party).

  • wont like me change file to m4r

  • nice desktop background lol :P

  • i got the files all sorted an the iphone has sync'd but i cant find them in the ringtone list to set them as new ringtones or msg tones, am i missing something :P

  • Holy crap it worked! thanks dude.

  • :( didnt work for me... I went to convert it but when i do, I get the beep and it doesnt show no other AAC file except the MP3 orignial :o Where could it be? :(

  • nice wallpaper!! :D

  • it worked =] .... although all my music has dissapeared =S

  • NONE OF my songs show up with the m4a?

    why?

  • Change to m4r

  • For those having a problem with converting the file extension from m4a to m4r, go to my computer>tools>folder options>view tab> then UNCHECK "hide extensions for known file types"

    Cheers!

  • that was exactly my problem thank you!!

  • just a Q, why not for more than 30 seconds?

  • that's how long the ringtones can last. More than 30 and it won't register. Less than thirty and I believe it will work, however once it gets to the end of the tone, it restarts

  • well i could make a ringtone of 40 seconds, and it worked as a call ringtone, but not as an sms ringtone.

  • Thanks dude, awesome tut - worked perfectly and super easy. Much appreciated!

  • a+++++

  • thanks for the great tut

  • how do i rename the file. when i right click and try to rename the mp4 doesnt show up

  • ME TOO!

  • thanks i worct great ;)

  • I followed along and it still did not work, my computer did not have all the right things to follow along exactly.

  • That was the business, thank you. I just followed right along with your vid with a few pauses here and there

  • i did everything correctly but after ive sync it to my iphone it doesnt show in my ringtone list...

  • same problem here!

  • Hi, I did all the steps just fine but had a couple of problems

1.When I want to change he start and end time it doesn't clip the song to the time I specified, nothing happens

2.I had another piece which I succeded in draging it to itunes, I sync my iphone, the ringtone is shown in the folder Ringtones on the itunes and iphone under devices but doen't show on my iphone ringtones

please help,I have all kinds of problems

  • mate everything worked until i got the file onto the desktop and than i couldn't change the file to a ringtone file. Any ideas

  • right click on it/then you rename it/change the a to an r /drag it to your ringtones folder on yourr itunes/then sync and enjoy

  • Worked, it was very easy with your info, Thanks!

  • Yeah, I can't seem to put more than one different ringtone on my list :S It all becomes one specific ringtone.

  • great work! works a treat!

  • When i click on one my songs it doesnt come up with concert to AAC :S Please help me xD

  • I got a question, I put 5 songs for ringtones right? Lets say S1,S2,S3,S4,S5.

Well they all go on itunes perfect and sync up but when I go to ringtones on the actual phone its just one song listed 5 times. in other words on itunes it says S1,S2,S3,S4,S5 but on my phone it will just have one song five times, S2,S2,S2,S2,S2.

Anyone have any ideas? My first iphone didnt do this but my last two have, whats going on?

  • dude i dont know what happened i did everything jus tlike you said perfect and when i went to drag it into my ringtone folder it just updated something and it didnt show up but it did show up in my library so....WTF?

  • Everything worked fine for me, but i made like 10 ringtones and when i sync them it shows 10 of the same ringtones on my phone...?? Iphone can only have one custom ring at a time or somthin?

  • I think that happens if it is not 30 seconds. I first created a ringtone longer than that (around 5 min.) and that did not show up in the list for syncing. Later when I made the 30 sec. ringtone, it showed up fine

  • you did everything perfect until the last step, but i figured it out ne way...after you get it on the desktop and change it to m4r file, you have to delete the OLD 30sec AAC file thats in itunes(the one thats the m4a) then you can drag it from the desktop to the ringtones section in itunes..AFTER that sync it and it works perfect..thanks for sharing imuh bout to get me some nice shit on my phone

  • I was having problems as well, i've been trying to do this for a while but it's really hit and miss. I have 2 ringtones on there right now that worked but a majority of the ones i've tried don't. I get the whole process, it's into M4r and my itunes even says it's on my Iphone on the devices page but when i go under settings it's not under the ringtones, only the same 2, not sure what I did with the old ones to make them work, please help, thanks!

  • this didnt work for me. i got through all the steps and when i go to drag it from the desktop into my ringtones folder, it doesnt work. help please!

  • Worked like a champ. Thanks!

  • Worked great! By the way, nice background! I followed your instructions and it worked great, except that one guy below me said it right, go to folder options and un-check hide file types so you can change the m4a to a m4r file.

  • It does work. But my iPhone will only load one custom ringtone. I created 30 different ones. When I synched them it created 30 of the same tone, ...even though all of them are in my iTunes *HELP*!

Just have to listen carefully and follow the directions, step by step. I had no problems at all.

  • never mind u have to unselect hide file extensions

  • When I copy the 30 second AAC converted file onto the desktop, it doesn't show the file name, and when I type .m4a at the end it won't give me a message saying the file could be un-use-able

  • slow computer..

  • always going to be haters
