  • is it wrong that i'm 13 but understand the lyrics? :/

I wish today's music was like this.. Real

  • Get Up Kids... Never fail to love their songs... Heard them when I was a kid... about a decade ago.. and their music is still as awesome...

Penfold, Biffy Clyro, Further Seems Forever, The Ataris... and a few others..

Those were the good ol days of emo... What do the kids these days know about the music of yesterday?

  • haven't heard this song in foreverrr <3

  • Who gives a shit where the genre started, stfu and enjoy the music.

  • this was the album that killed TGUK

  • @pouge007 - Yes it was, sadly. But, luckily it gave us this song.

  • @tisdue true. i was pretty psyched when they released this track as a single before the album came out. and then...

  • @rodblessyou Wrong. The first band that circulated the term "emo" was Rites of Spring because their lyrics were less about politics and being angry and more about the emotions they felt. This started emocore. Get Up and Sunny Day aren't labeled "emo" because it was a mistake. In the 90's that's what emo was to the teenage kids who listened to these bands religiously. Emo means too many things to too many people to have a clear definition. Read "Nothing Feels Good" by Andy Greenwald. Seriously.

  • Dear Paranoia,

Ever feel like someone or some organization is watching you when your not looking? Have your thoughts and feelings become so frayed from all the tradgedy in the world that you wished you were comfortably numb? If you answered yes to one of these two questions you are now eligible to watch my new music video MOTION CAPTURE DEVICE!!

  • @CharlesxBukowski Minor Threat was actually the first band to coin the term "emo", which was short for emotive hardcore. It only began to pertain to bands like Get Up Kids and Sunny Day Real Estate through misunderstanding and misuse of the term.

Nonetheless I enjoy both genres, particularly this band.

  • CHECK OUT: TYPECAST HOLIDAY COVER Tower Sessions S01E08

  • Word

  • WOW! Hell Yeah! Love The Get Up Kids! Listening to a lot of TGUK, Hey You!, Blondie, Green Day, The Offspring, Weezer and No Doubt...MORE PUNK IN 2011 !!

Hey You! is still pretty new, but they're waaaay dope. Cool edge, and cute chick singer too :-) ...you should check em out

search "hey you band taking over"

  • fuckin love the get up kids

  • I've been listening to this same song for over 2 hours, that's how addicting this is.

  • For more "real" emo, try Pop Unknown, American Football, Brandtson, Elliott Smith, Mineral... heck even Weezer's Pinkerton might qualify.

  • This song is weird because it really told the srory of my life from 22 to 24. Great vid and an even better song.

  • Get Up Kids + Sunny Day Real Estate + Fugazi + Texas Is The Reason = Actual Emo :D

  • @AtarisGuy33

I'm 57 and still love the GUKs, Texas Is The Reason was awesome, Loved Static Prevails by JEW, Christie Front Drive and early screamo - Reflector and Midvale. Good music.

  • @55Mizzou That's awesome! I personally couldn't get that into emo sadly because it wasn't always my favorite, but it is definitely a very important piece of music in the 90's and 00's, whether people put it down or not. I admire your awesome taste in music!

  • @AtarisGuy33

Those are all technically post-emo bands.

  • @ashxc Trust me, no one thinks you're cool bro.

  • @1192Tyler

    Au contraire, mon ami.

  • @ashxc What's post about Fugazi? They were the first emos. Unless you consider Rites Of Spring emo, but I see them as just good melodic punk. But regardless, they're not post emo. Sure maybe Texas is the reason and get up kids, but Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Rites Of Spring, that's original emo.

  • this song makes me think of old memorys

  • @CharlesxBukowski Real emo music started in the 80's with Minor Threat. :p Which was punk. Which is pretty much screaming. Emo music is emo music, wether you scream it, or sing it softly, wether you're depressed or not. Quit hating.

  • @TwoHairsInOneHole not to be a dick but ian mcayle (lead singer of minor threat) had a second band called embrace which could be considered emo I guess but joy division could be considered the first "emo" band just useless info

  • I will never forget this song; stuck with me since Jr. High.

  • Ty Layne :D

  • thank you layne for this

  • EMO FTW!!!

  • Wow, way to be an ignorant fuck and generalise everybody.

Grow up man, you listen to what you want and others will do the same.

None of this whole "wow you don't like what I like? well it must be shit".

  • Good tune. Sounds cool in the 240p to!

  • Back when Emo actually stood for emotional and not wrist cutting, shitty hairstyles and eyeliner.. Good times..

  • @goldstariv their hairstyles are actually usually pretty cool and the japanese started those haircuts

    dont disrespect them

  • illuminati on the house at 0:07

  • @uppityox you're kidding right?

  • i got me a new Favorite Band :D

  • LOL old emo is projected through pathetic maroon 5 , nickle-back etc. it all sounds like shit... i love this old shit not even emo but its music with expression that isn't about whining....

  • You lot rinsin these 'new emo's' make me crack up. Why do you care?.. I didn't even know this would of been classed as emo and to be honest I couldn't give two shits. Fuck "taking the scene back" everyone has to grow up out of these queer little phases anyway so be proud that emo got taken from you, be proud that you are no longer an emo. Fuck emo.

  • I usually cry when i hear this song...but in a perfectly healthy and happy way ;)

  • holy shit 0.0 how did my mom get in this vid

  • this was real emo... not the shitty tight pants and stupid eye liner and screaming every single word. It was not about being "drepressed" it was all about showing emotions... man, fuck all those teenagers posers, this is the REAL shit

  • Comment removed

  • Well said mate, I remember when emo meant bands like Starmarket, Knapsack, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral, Coalesce, Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil, Planes Mistaken for Stars, Samiam, Rainer Maria, The Jealous Sound.... Jeans and T-Shirts all the way, no eyeliner in sight, Just great emotionally charged music. If your a kid, don't be force fed this watered down generic shit! Check out some of the bands mentioned here and burn your Taking back sunday and MCR CD's Take your scene back!!!!!

  • @azpunkazme

Some people remember when bands such as Rites of Spring and Embrace were emo. Many of those people absolutely HATE those bands you mentioned simply because it sounds nothing like the original sound. You have to realize, it evolves with every "wave" and every generation. Most of the bands that get called emo today don't actually like that term. Chris Simpson (Mineral) mentioned that he never liked the term, he just thought they were playing rock n roll.

  • @azpunkazme

So as lame as it is, you have to realize that music and fashion changes with the time. However the band dresses really shouldn't have an influence over the sound. You can look like a "fag" or look as normal and boring as possible. The music should be the only important thing. Jejune (a better version of Rainer Maria) sounds amazing, but it's hard to understand the singer because she slurs a lot, like Jeremy Enigk. If you want a challenge, try instrumental post rock.

  • @CharlesxBukowski I consider this more Indie than emo

  • @TylerConlinTV indie is not a genre

  • @Buckeye1244 ...i'd have to say it is, especially since the fact that most bands that call themselves indie usually are under contract through a major label but to better fit their image get subcontracted out to a hipper cooler independent label...ex. paramore...originally to atlantic, but sub'd out to fueled by ramen...lots others as well....the strokes, radiohead, and so ooooooooon

  • @orpize Think what you want but its not, you fucktard.

  • @Buckeye1244 i think it is..

  • @CharlesxBukowski agreed due

  • @CharlesxBukowski agreed dude

  • @CharlesxBukowski Word!

  • @CharlesxBukowski I agree with you. & I'm a fourteen year old who'd kinda into that. I don't wear psycho eyeliner, but I'm into the music you descried. I'm picky about "screamo", & don't just listen to depressing music. There's a few of us who aren't such posers. :} I have a variety of tastes in music: country, "screamo", punk, indie, pop, etc. I totally respect the point you made though because, well most teens ARE posers, so I'd have to agree with you.

What these people don't understand is

  • @CharlesxBukowski the musical genre of your preference shouldn't have to influence what type of pants you wear & how you do your hair. Or even your makeup.

Right now, being "emo" or "scene" is what's cool. Me though- I say screw that. I'll listen to your screamiest "screamo" & dress like that chick from Legally Blonde.

  • @CharlesxBukowski Yeah, let's not try and educate young people who don't know any better, that's what the great community spirit of the emo scene has always been about. Fuck those who are different to us. Fuck's sake.

  • @CharlesxBukowski Yes! There is such a huge difference between "real" emo and shit emo, which is the natural exploitation we see from record producers when something innovative and real comes along. They always have to fuck it up and ruin the name.

  • @CharlesxBukowski might your username be a reference to Chuck Dukowski? :D

  • @CharlesxBukowski : Thanks, even though I dress a bit simular to most emo poser teens, theres a different musical taste between me and the majority these days, when I found out about the new "emo" genre, i argued that is was something else, because that is nothing like emo rofl

  • emo but good

  • @guitar247365 i dont think the guys in the band call the music they play "emo" i remember when they played shows with bands like coalesce. they play good music lets leave it at that.

  • I can't choose 5 top songs but ONE of my favorite songs is "Campfire Kansas" and my favorite album of there's is Something to Write home About.

    What are yours? :)

  • One of their best songs after Something to Write Home About.

  • @MasterBlade4 SOmething to write home about Was an Album not a song.

  • Yeah but this song was after the album Something to Write Home About, and imo their songs wheren't that great after Something to Write Home About came out. I can't say one of their best albums because I don't know the whole album that well.

  • I can relate to this so much...sadly. </3

  • i love this song, it was the first get up kids song that i really got into

  • check out the split they did with coalesce....... they play harvest of maturity. and coalesce plays second place. Its to good to be comical.

  • @Jschills harvest of maturity is a great song, either version, but I think it was called Burned Bridges on the split 7" right?

  • love them. especially action & action

  • this song is beautifullll

  • ahhh the good ol days

  • love this song!!

Get Up Kids = One of the greatest bands ever!

  • Comment removed

  • This is the first time I've ever heard this band, and I must say, pretty awesome.

  • So everyone says that this song is about a chick and I thougth so too. But actually the song is about Matt Pryor(lead vocals) and about his father, (he explained the song in an interview). He rarely talks about his dad. So this song just talks about his dad being "a few years overdue." And also in Four minute mile he mentions him also in "Fall Semester." This song Is like a more mature version of "Fall Semester."

  • Heck Yeah after so many years I get to see these guys on Sept 29!

Cannot wait for the show hopefully they stick around after the tour so they could make some new material :D

  • so after 8 years i finaly get to see them again in sept... long time commin... and sunny day real estate 6 days later... how lucky can a girl get

  • Replace that with a high class hooker and I accept your proposal to share a whore, you get the asshole of course.

  • Beautiful.

  • you just took my breath away. sunny day real estate are playing? my god, are they coming to FL????

  • Comment removed

  • I love *- jiji

  • listen to don't hate me and fall semester 4 minute mile

  • Interesting you'd say that, seeing as how The Get Up Kids first came in around 1997 and the Gorillaz came out around 2001.

  • my thoughts EXACTLY.

  • these guys were out WAY before the gorillas...

also, if you read the description of the video, it actually shows who did the artwork. take notice that it is not anyone in the band.

    you sir, are an idiot.

  • This is a really good band.

    Classic.

    <3

  • i love this song

  • Awesome video

    I'm totally agree with playmoreloud

there are a lot of metaphors in this video, the desperation to stay with his girl and only pass his life making dolls, the guy doesnt eat, and in his mind only lives the girl, his eyes only shine cause cannot cry, get crazy an go out with a doll, and at the end she arrive with 24 years overdue only to go forever % ever , the house dispappears as his impossible love,

I <3 The Get Up Kids

and maybe my favorite song and the best video i ever seen

  • this is awesome... I like the vid the whole thing...

  • This video is so psychological. He is trapped in a box with only the idea of the girl he loves to keep him company. As we can see, he hopes to one day be with her. However, it is painfully obvious that this is impossible. The significance of the house is also powerful because it essentially represents his prison. The individual is hopeless yet profoundly powerful due to his relatable nature. As the house disappears, he is left with nothing. Best video I have ever seen.

  • i dont think ur a faggot i think ur hilarious

  • @PlayMoreLoud

I'm pretty sure it's about his dad dude, not some girl.

    its pretty obvious.

  • Comment removed

  • @PlayMoreLoud

I just could not agree more <3

  • jeffo is the biggest fucking faggit in the world. i hope you die. fuck you tube memberships and fuck you and ur and ignorant fucking fag face. i hope ur first born child faces birth problems and doesnt make it

  • emo is a friggen music genre. adn now it turned into a stereotype. and people think other people are emo if they cut, wear black, or listen to hardcore music. way to label, dumbass'.

  • youre such a nub

  • your a dumbass

  • the get up kids were a band way before fall out boy was even thought of

  • @Phuckyooo love how this comment is in the highest rated section :)))

  • the get up kids never seem to let me down... amazing

  • @ lrae221.

    I agree. It´s a fucking subculture,

'emo' is just a fashion appearance, nothing else.
