If god is so great why does he let bad things happen?

-God gave us free will. If nothing bad happened in this world and god controlled everything, we would be puppets and have no freedom. the bad things are consequences to our actions. God bless. DEATH IS DEAD. Jesus is for eternity.

Psalm 73 is possibly my favorite passage in the Bible because it touches my heart and the fabric of the society I live in.

It's crucial to understand the power of sin! All those bad things you mentioned, happen because of sin and the power of sin...not because God can't do anything about it. It's too easy to just place blame on God b/c of 'bad' things that happen but we need to take responsibility for our sin. God did do something, He sent His Son and broke the curse of sin...all we need to do is believe in Him. :)

Jesus said "marvel not if the world hate you know that it hated me first." if you were of the world the world would love its own. Also the world hates The Father but we who believe are children of the father and our riches and our kingdom is not of this world but in the world too come which is an everlasting kingdom where righteousness does reign and there is no evil. this kingdom does pass away and the kingdoms of the earth will become the kingdoms of our God and his Christ.
