Not quite. If he used half of the budget and polished up the old characters, he could have spent a larger chunk of the remaining half on hiring decent writers & actors. *lol*
I'm pretty sure bay would have turned down any good transformers scripts he was presented with in favour of the one with explosions, "funny" black talk and masterbation "jokes"....OOOh god, I want a ticket to the premmiere of the second one. Then I could bomb that asshole to the moon.
Get yourself hired as an extra, show up on the set in the guise of Heath Ledger's Joker (Dark Knight ALREADY beat Bayformer$'s $700 million, btw!), and then blow up the set with everyone still on it! >:D
hahah, nice plan. somone might wonder why the dead joker was on set though...and I'm pretty usre bay doesnt use extras. That'd mean less room for explosions and lense flares.
Ah, right. Forget the Ledger thing then. Instead, pull a Robert Downey Jr. and get yourself hired as a cliche-spouting black guy. Then you'll get on the set FOR SURE! *lol*
are we planing to bomb bay now? boy people are pissed over this! lol.
off cource i agree with the look/script thing.
i like to use the Batman argument as well. 30s 60s 80s or modern day. he is always a guy in a bat suit who's parents were murdered. the way his stories were told may have changed here and there, but the essence was always there. and no one used the ''its not the 30s anymore'' argument.
it is ironic how a 80s animated show is more mature and better writen isn't it?

As with alcohol, moderation is the key. Sophistication is one thing, what we got was complication in the designs. Aside from Prime, who was remotely recognizable from a glance?
Imagine the movie just as it is. Same writing, same actors, same direction, same cinematography and editing, same everything, except that the Autobots and Decepticons look like this. Do you think this look detracts from the movie in any way, or makes it seem in any way less realistic than what's already presented on screen?
In some ways yes, because Megatron never took on a disguise. Not to mention many of the Decepticons were more original creations rather than G1 cross overs.
Now that's not to say that this fight looks unrealisitic, because it looks great. In fact there is more fight shown here, than in the actual live movie, which in my opinion is better than just hearing grunts, and then Prime getting thrown down.
So I think it could go both ways. Although I always prefered the orignal designs. :)
Because Michael Bay doesn't know a damn thing about Transformers, what they look like, or the economics/practicality of a more simplistic design. Say anything you want, Bay, but spending an hour and a half skimming through the Hasbro archives does NOT turn you into a TF expert like you think it does.
I admit, Michael Bay may not know as much as true G1 fans such as us. However, I wouldn't change the new movie series one bit.. If it were made like the old cartoon the budget would have been cut in half and nowhere near the amount of people would have went to see it.. Which would have meant no sequel. You have to take into account that all us G1 fans make up a small percentage of the box office revenues for this film. It was to the best of his ability given the demographic.
The budget would have remained the same and it would have been spent more wisely. This movie needed the Iron Man treatment, where it looks old-school enough to please the fans but still look new and fresh enough to draw in a new crowd and to be physically pheasible (and make it a movie about CHARACTERS, not action sequences). I don't see how a story that pleases the hardcore TF fans would be unappealing to the non-fans. I mean, WE were all non-fans once, wheren't we? What drew US into it? :P
G1 fans being a small percentage of overall is true, but staying true to form like Batman Begins, Ironman, or Spiderman can please the fans AND the masses.
Hey whereabouts is this on the Hasbro site?

No, you can't do that. That's just wrong.

The designs they used in the 07 movie were too complex. They should have made them a little bit more like the ones in this video but not too G1.
Somewhere in between G1 and Bayformer bionicles.

Psh... Megatron never taking a disguise... Do you know what that is? LAZY FILM-MAKING! >:P
Judging from your comments, it sounds like you were able to enjoy the movie WITHOUT having to shut your brain off. Nice. :)

You were the one who told me to imagine it exactly the same though. :)
No I usually leave my brain on, I know it sounds uncommon anymore but some still do it.

WOW, why did they get it right in this but not in the movie? Thats insane!
