One of my favorite songs from my youth, back in the early 1980s, a couple of years before KROQ jumped the shark with all of the godawful nu-ro bullshit. I just read that Radio Waves is actually an updated version of a song by The Id, i.e. Humphreys and McCluskey's previous band in the 70s. Would KILL to hear the original.
@KeepMusicking it was one of my favs also...this song blew me away in the early 80s...just saw them in concert like amonth ago....was a dream come true...they even played this song....:)
Class pure class, saw them recently "supporting" Simple Minds at Wembley arena, the Minds were fantastic but I would happily have left content with the brilliant OMD set....roll on Brighton Dome...
Pure class. I can't think of many other bands who consistently bridged the gap between experimental and pop, and brilliantly. For me it all ended with Crush. Intrigued to hear their new stuff where they claim to be thinking like they did in their early days. Hmmm...
Dazzle ships... their best album, but it almost sank them. Brings back memories of sitting in my room with my mind wandering and pondering. Such simulating music for the brain. More than human celestial
@abagail4me Actually saying Dazzle Ships (1983) was their last decent album makes you the negative "nay sayer", not the people who enjoy their later works such as Junk Culture or some of the great songs scattered on the later albums.
OMD were one of the 'cerebral' bands of the 80s, like Japan and Eno. They had their own totally unique voice and, apart from the pop songs they produced, they had some intelligent lyrics and some lyrical tunes. Listen to Organisation - it's melancolic and very evocative. Architecture and Morality - beautiful songs throughout. They seemed to have a 'thing' for Eastern Europe and industry and old-fashioned radio (or shortwave) it seemed to me. I saw them twice live, and they were just great.
Never got the recognition they deserved. Great band, way ahead of the rest. Perhaps the singles they released for general consumption, weren't representative of their true worth. I loved them back in 79 and still love them now, just a shame they had a split in the 90's and got lost in the dross of that era, when bands disappeared and manufactured tripe took over. Every album they have done, i have liked in its own way and listening to it now is as good as the first time, but with added memories.
i agree with everything you say i love OMD for sum reason in this country were never popular but i still think that even in the 90s andy done really well sith SUGAR tax
I couldn't agree more. OMD's singles represented their more commercial side but for me OMD's strength was in their album tracks, choice of abstract subject matter, imagery and soundscapes and the fact that they did not subscribe to the designer suits and make-up brigade. They simply were themselves, unique and irreplaceable.
Absolutely right they were fantastic. I've been an OMD fan for 28 years and was totally blown away when I saw them in London last year. Their first five albums are their best work but I've got a collection of their material covering all ten albums and some B sides on my channel. Good to see younger people getting into OMD, they are so talented yet one of the most underrated bands this country has ever produced.
Classic OMD!!! Love it.
Una de las mejores canciones de los primeros años de OMD.

The album got horrible reviews and lost them fans in droves, but DAZZLE SHIPS was one of my favorites of all time along with Junk Culture.

I hate cassettes.
