  • 2:53 to 3:00, he makes the cutest ever! XD

  • okay this is some funn stuff! i should so watch this movie ^^

  • I love this man! :-)

  • @RichardElden - Then clearly you have no taste.

  • The most FABULOUS Lancelot ever.

  • Love it! I never get tired of the songs in this awesome musical!

  • if I recall this movie had the staggering budget of six million dollars in the mid sixties. That's probably why they used mostly unknowns

  • If you think this song is anything less than absolutely hilarious, your sense of humor is lacking. Go watch South Park or something.

And this is by far my favorite portrayal of Lancelot. They make him pompous rather than truly humble because his is the part of Arthur's antagonist and you aren't supposed to sympathize with him, but I find his attitude incredibly endearing, if anything. In this film, a character that I would normally be ambivalent about at best became my favorite.

  • To all who have watched this and comment how incredibly booring or ridiculas he comes off, that is exactly the point! He pulls off being so totally impressed with himself that he himself could never fathom the irony that is destined to befall him. Nero does a great job of doing this tounge in cheek too, just watch his facial expressions, it's actually quite humorous even to the point that his squire nods along with his conceited opinion of himself. Watch it again and see if you agree.

  • he looks like he's choking in those pants

  • Haha, this scene plays like an Old Spice commercial.

  • I wish I was THAT man standing there with all that swagger.

  • It's ridiculous and that it's even being debated about Franco Nero playing Lancelot du Lac because he's not French. It's called acting, people. Vivian Leigh wasn't a southerner and she played Scarlett O'hara and Blanche Dubois. She was British and is very well remembered for the parts. You don't have to be of that region to play a role well.

  • Robert Goulet wins anyday.

  • @thespian547 i agree. but you can't deny this Gene Merlino guy has a pretty nice voice

  • He was beautiful then , and he still is now.

    Thats amazing .

  • xD Talk about tooting one's own horn!

  • Lancelot's ego is something to behold, he always provides a chuckle or two. In fact, even for those who strive for humility, it tis hard to get this tune out of the mind. XD

  • Franco Nero is so georgeous! love this movie

  • Franco Nero, Gene Merlino.... regardless of who it is, italians are by far the best singers in the history of the world. and yes, i am bias.

  • the real voice is done by gene merlino

  • Talk about miscasting

    feminine voice

the scene in armor by the riverbank - he looks and walks like the Tin Man in Wizard of Oz

    give me a break

  • Bravo Bravo

  • were watching this in english and i found it hilarious when hes like "CAMELOTTTTTTTTTTTTTT" in the beginning

  • This sucks, guy in the original broadway cast is so much better.

  • Love how he drops the accent while singing.

  • Did you know that Guinevere and Lancelot were really married in real life? (The actors of course)

  • The most boring song ever.

  • Franco was handsome and charming to an extreme in this film

  • @greg4161 Shame he couldn't act at all.

  • Lancelot is a pompous ass!

  • 2:56 ... zoolander.

  • 6 people are jealous of Lancelot's pure extraordinary "virtue".

  • Ah, my theme song...Though, in all candor, i would also sing of my extreme humility..

I would make sure you all know that i am infinitely more humble then all of you...Combined perhaps...

    Ha ha ha

    God bless yall.

  • I saw Camelot in 1967 with my first girlfriend...It was my first musical and romance movie...with enough swordplay to balance the mush.

  • damn those pants are tight

  • These are the words of my brother 'Well somebody's got an ego."

  • Very boring song.

  • wow - this looks terrible!!

  • "Had I'd been made the partner of Eve, we'd be in Eden still!" Every song in this musical is amazing. I'm not even really a fan of musicals.

  • It is hard to be humble when you are Lancelot!

  • Hmmm. A remake with Zac Efron as Lancelot.

  • Franco kind of captured the image of Lancelot as incredibly virtuous, but also pompous and naive to the darker side of human nature. To see his fall to being a mere mortal like the rest of us is both tragic and enticing.

  • link from My Life Is Hetalia.

    OOOH, Francis~ that silly frog!

  • And modest too!

  • Jesus this is gay to the max.

  • This isn't his voice though. It was dubbed, and he was Vanessa's other half so a matter of who you know...

  • They didn't meet until he'd already been cast.

  • Doesn't think much of himself, does he?- *eyebrows raise and eyes roll in exasperation*

    Still a very good performance

  • It sounds like he is singing "Sham-wow!"

  • @KatieBeth1000 "Sham-wow, Sham-wow, so adequately fit, its made in Germany you know! And you'll be saying wow I declare, Sham-wow, Sham-wow, say it with such a flair!"

  • this is my theme song

  • Bad dubbing.

  • Fantastic scene!!!

  • If your character was sooo great.... why did Lance-A-Lot stab his best friend and KING in the back by hooking up with Guinevere, HIS QUEEN!?

I love this movie.... and this song is just fantastic!

For Happily Ever Aftering, Here in CAMEALOT!

I NOW HAVE IT ON DVD

    Yes!!!

  • It was his destiny to fall helplessly in love. Remember this was the same man who bragged about his impervious-ness to the weaknesses of the flesh. He imagined himself above all that...one of the angels. But!...when he met Guinevere he was struck with Love. Does that not move you to pity?

    :D

  • My question's in jest, and somewhat historical. It's really just a movie, and the question, retorical.

  • It is and it isn't...is it not?

    Strictly rhetorical this responsive question.

    *wink*

  • @triestestudent it was not destiny, it was a personal failing. Tristan was a better knight, for when he fell in love with his queen he banished himself. That is a true knight, Lancelot betrayed his oath and his king.

  • Comment removed

  • Not really. I don't believe he really was immune to "the ways of the flesh". I don't believe anything he says in this song. I actually think Lancelot was meant to be one of those characters you love to hate- that is the purpose of this song.

  • @triestestudent In a strange sad way his falling in love was like falling from grace.

  • @123JDB789 You know, it didn't even seem like Arthur cared that much. HE KNEW and kept it hidden from the rest of the castle.

  • Love brings him to his knees. He gets served a big ole plate of humble pie and is all the better for it.

  • This version always makes me want to cheer him on and smack his face at the same time. Perfect balance of arrogance and awesomeness. LOL!

  • @snipergirl21

My thoughts exactly - extremely arrogant and yet so heroic (in the beginning).

I love this song - gives me inspiration to strive to be the best I can be.

  • so handsome though

  • Well...he's amusing to watch anyway....I'd rather mute the movie however and listen to Nathan Gunn or Robert Goulet. I think that Nathan Gunn was the one who really hammed up this role and did it the best.

Not to insult anyone and I know that movies and theater are different so let's not start that age-old arguement.

I haven't heard Robert sing this one, but I've heard him with If Ever I Would Leave You and he wnis that haha =P he was actually in love with Julie. <3

  • :O!

  • xD I'm sorry apparently no matter how many times you say, I'm not here to offend anyone I'm just sharing an opinion you end up offending people. Hence my negitive three comment score xD

  • I am SO glad my 12th grade English teacher made us watch this film.

This is one of my favorite songs from it!

  • franco was the best actor and look for the role--goulet sings it without feeling, only that baritone edge, as does gunn.

so giggle away children--as it was gene merlino, a LA studio pro who looped FN's singing for the movie. The recorded play was stiff and lacked connection, the film and the cast were exceptional.

  • franco nero eu estou speecheless

  • Wow, uh, hm. This guy was good, but he's no Goulet. I couldn't help but giggle at how ridiculous he sounded. Ah well.

  • Everyone is entitleled to their own opinion must it's mine that NO ONE does C'est Moi as well as Franco Nero.

    JMHO

  • Agreed!

  • franco nero is the man

  • Thsi guy sucks! does anybody know where I can find the guy from the original production?

  • Sucks...wow. Congrats: you are the stupidest person I've encountered today. Curious...which part sucks? His timbre, his phrasing,..I've coached scores of Lancelots. And this guy is pretty damn awesome.

  • Robert Goulet was better.

  • i agree completely

  • I saw Richard Burton play King Arthur. He was obvious that he was pretty toasted but he still managed to pull it off. It was kind of sad, really. His heart was just not in it. Richard Harris (RIP) was an amazing actor. So intense, so compelling. He was a great Arthur.

  • I saw it with Michael York!

  • That must have been fun! I loved Michael York in Romeo and Juliet...

  • Too cute here, I prefer him as "Banovic Strahinja".

  • I never knew he was dubbed! But he did look good in tights. This song is actually very funny. I like his squire.

  • But how did that Italian actor get the role of one of the heroes from an English legend?

  • Yep, for total cultural accuracy, he should have been French.

  • @wildbillOK And Richard Harris was Irish

  • @wildbillOK Not in film. This is acting. This is not real life. When it comes to making money in film, you get the most handsome person with the best voice. If that offends some French people. Too bad.

  • @cesar1963able Nero was certainly handsome, but didn't speak English. He was dubbed!

  • "That Italian" got the role because he was a decent actor and a major heart-throb.

He swept Vanessa off her feet!

  • @wildbillOK But his hair so fair, and eyes blue ! The English Renaissance came from France, who got it from Italy where in thirteenth century (two and more centuries before import to England) it began with sonneteer Petrarch and early novelist Boccacio. Franco Nero was a great Lancelot--Italian military bravado and religious and love passion.

  • @hugh0221 because he is the best looking man that has ever existed!

  • I never knew he was Italian. I thought he was French- his French accent is AMAZING!

  • @hugh0221 very easy, how a german royal family of Hanover can rule the Uk with the name of Windsor....lol

  • @hugh0221 Perhaps they couldn't find a French actor to compare with the looks of that particular Italian, Rawwwwwwrrr! ;-)

  • @hugh0221 An English legend created mostly by French Trouveres in the early middle ages.

  • @hugh0221 I heard somewhere that Franco Nero knew so little English at the time that he learned songs and lines phoentically. I don't know if that's true. But he and Vanessa Redgrave wound up together for years and years,

  • @hugh0221 Well, that is called professional film. The directors look at tape and make a decision.

  • @hugh0221

    What's your problem?

  • No just looking at Franco maybe not ??

  • Yummy

  • Is this Franco Nero singing tho? I didn't know he could sing like this if it is him.

  • It's not. Gene Merlino is dubbing over Franco Nero

  • This song is just plain wonderful.... well sung and expressed with the noble sprit of the time.... and values that are hard to come by now a days.... and no.... I'm not gay! I am a LEO, born with the Heart of a Lion! .... and I feel it down to my British roots whenever I see the movie CAMELOT! A true classic!! I have to get this movie AGAIN, but on DVD now!

  • me too - just ordered it from Amazon!!!

  • so did I !! haha

  • oh my gosh we did this play in School(im the pit) and it was fantastic. this was my favorite song. our Lancelot had a cooler set of armor however, decked in red and gold

  • I'm not sure who dubbed Franco Nero here, but yes, whoever it was does NOT sound French at all.

  • or GOOD for that matter. compared to the original cast recording of course. I might have to post that recording

  • This is not Nero's voice. I had the cast album. However, it matters not to me. He's just great!

  • Hey Elantra, I had the cast album too but never noticed this was'nt Franco - this voice just goes with him perfectly!!! - who the heck is it?? Whoever he is especially on if ever I would leave you he is untouchable!

  • Fun fact: Franco Nero actually didn't sing this :D

  • brilliant I wish I could sing like that

  • I love Franco Nero!!!....He is so sexy....pure esctasy with him!!!!

  • LOL

    so funny

love how his voice gets soo high when he's like "amAAAzingly bold.."

  • I have to say, Nero's singing is to heavy and slow. He doesn't sound at all French. He sounds Transylvanian! Robert Goulet did a much better job at this song.

  • He's actually Italian, but I doubt this is him singing. Probably a dub.

  • Still, Goulet should have gotten the part in the movie.

  • Oh NO tregnier Robert Goulet are you serious - this part was made for Franco Nero!!!

  • Robert Goulet originated the role of Lancelot on stage with Julie Andrews as Guinevere and Richard Burton as Arthur in 1960, seven years before the movie came out.

  • yep maybe, but Gene Merlino who dubbed for Franco definately had THE voice and Franco the looks! lol!!!! if Robert Goulet had been Lancelot I'd definately have stuck wiht Richard Burton - probably would have anyway!

  • Of course in the legends he was not so big headed, but isn't Franco wonderful? Especially love the line about being unwincible (sic)!

  • ..... wow..... he's pretty confident :)

  • sir lancelot the purest and bravest knight in king aurthur's court just like sir james great in heaven..

  • This is cute! I love when he's in the boat!

I uploaded a bunch of Camelot clips from the recent Lincoln Center broadcast. I like this movie version you uploaded where we see Lancelot's trip to Camelot. But go check out the staged version on my channel - it has its own charms! :)

  • Regarding this song and his ego, I really, really wish someone would post that little scene where he meets Guinevere at the Maying, and after he expounds upon his virtues, she asks him something like, "Mosieur, are you familiar with the virtue of humilité (French for humility)?"

  • Chuckle. Yes, I remember that part well. It would make a nice addition I have to admit.

  • Hey - I posted the humility scene from the recent Lincoln Center staged version - not from this movie - but it's still cute. :)

  • Many thanks! I viewed this movie when it was released - while in college, dates me! - and "C'est Moi" stuck in my head for 40 years, 'til I purchased the DVD. I have always used the initial Lancelot attitude and subsequent moral plummet as an object lesson to my kids, a study in grand hypocrisy that almost destroyed a nation, saved only by the hearts of the young who were inculcated with the abiding hope of a brighter future.

  • Nero's songs are sung by Gene Merlino

  • Hm - cutie, think he´s dubbed over, but U can´t get everything, as we know.

  • "The man in whom these qualities bloom..."

hahahaha! Among my favorite lines ever.

  • I never saw this musical live. Thanks so much for posting this movie. I really wanted to see it.

  • Moment of truth director Ron de Moreas cast me as Lancelot as a 21 year old;I was no Robert Goulet or Franco Nero singing If ever I would leave you ;but I had a lot of fun singing C'est moi;and I raised Sir Lionel from the dead.I miss that! This video is delightful the way ego mania is supposed to be.

  • Too funny!

  • I kind of love this song. It's so funny. In one part I thought for sure he was about to sing the line "with really great hair." Maybe it's just me. lol.

  • Not just you. I love this song ; ).

  • Haha, even though I know the words I still always half-expect the line to be "with fabulous hair."
