Almost every other task I can do twice as fast in Mint for free. Upgrades are a doddle. And the community is one of the friendliest I have seen. It is based on Ubuntu, so many fixes for Ubuntu will work on Mint. Try it.

Just wandering... i dont know much at all about linux so please dont make me feel stupid for asking this but how safe is linux? i mean i realize that it being built by the community provides a lot of great qualities for the software but wouldnt it be just as easy for someone to throw a virus in the mix as well???
i love ubuntu, thats what im on right now, i've used windows for years and i find linux sooo much easier to use, but i havent used a mac yet and i dont plan to lol
What is really a problem is how to get the information to solve a problem. I usually search in Forum entrys which are sometimes outdated or wrong. Sometimes it can take hours even if the solution is just a mouse click away.
i have decided as a geek that i am not complete without a Linux. Im now downloading ubuntu and im going to triple boot it on my 1tb hard drive alongside mw Vista and w7.

2. Yes, tips are awesome.
3. Have you tried the Gumbo or Crawfish? They're DELICIOUS! I haven't had any in ages since I moved to Georgia.
i got that error once but i know i was messing up and trying a bunch of configurations out and messing with files, reinstalled and everything smooth now
I am installing Ubuntu on a second machine as I type this and I'm getting I/O errors when the CD is load but I will persevere because once you get it going; issues such as viruses spyware and stability is almost irrelevant.
I am in no way an expert but if I spend another months or so using Linux; I doubt I will use any Microsoft OS for anything other than gaming.
I am sticking with Ubuntu mainly because of the support I can rely on.
I first tried Linux about 5 years ago, I tried Red Hat and it took me four to install and that's with the aid of a second pc that had internet access to look up the errors I was getting.
This turned me off Linux for years.
Last summer I tried Ubuntu and I was pleasantly surprised.
It installed without any issues and in under twenty minutes.
I have a mac osX and a linux computer installed with suse linux, but beware the learning curve is steep for linux and will take some time to get use to. I have been useing linux for the past 5 years and I absolutly love it.
I'm planning on putting PC Linux on; but I NEED a screen magnifier so if anyone knows a simple 1, 2, 3 set up screen magnifier, that'd be great. I did try enlarging the font of the windows to the necessary 24 point, but the windows became impossible to work with because they ran off the screen, and moving the windows around didn't help.
If you have Compiz Fusion, you can hold the Windows key and scroll the mouse wheel forwards to zoom in. Then you can work like normal, your whole screen magnifies. Then you can zoom out by holding Windows key and scroll back.
I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get the Nvidia drivers to work with my 7600GS 256mb AGP using the analog VGA output. Each time I install and restart I get a blank screen. I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 and any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

why can't 1 linux distro be created that does it all, and be user friendly?

because different distros are used for different things.

Consider trying a different version.
