  • Both this and the Red Hot Chili Peppers cover are amazing!

  • bass line is amazing

  • So wtf is this supposed to mean nate???? Whatever, i dont have time for music triviia after three years, i need words. So im gonna call this over.

  • What year did this come out?

  • IF YOU WANT ME TO STAY, I WANT TO LISTEN TO SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE... :-)

  • The great Sly Stone, what a hero, ahead of his time in many ways!

    @CarvelJFru No mate, I think you'll find that's opinion!

  • @moseleyjs No im pretty sure its a fact.

  • The Red Hot Chili Peppers cover of this is one of the greatest covers ever...fact!

  • Kind of sad that they always recorded the horns way back in the mix.

  • one winner, any prize!

  • I love this song. Bass/guitar players back in the day were not playing. :)

  • #86(Tie)

  • lost my virginity to this song .. drinkin wine... eatin ludes and..smokin columbian gold .. bein seduced by my neighbor's sister's mom in 77.... YAY!!!! hahahha..

  • @phukinuttz Your neighbour's sister's mother would be.. your neighbour's mother?

  • @lkfredd yeah sumthin like that ....hmmmmm

  • @phukinuttz ok they were half sisters .... had different moms so,, it was her step mom ,,yup ..

  • i cant stand the chili peppers they suck but sly was an orginal artist great!

  • They just don't make em like this anymore

  • It was the Sly cover that got me into the Chili Peppers, so ther you go.

  • Thats the jam...Sly and the Family Stone ....never gets old...

  • great memories I just went back over thirty years !!my best years in life!!

  • OK I got my FUNK on now :)

  • Just because peppers were globally aknowledged for their beautiful majestic music dosent make their sound 'mainstream'. FYI, they were highly influenced by sly and family stone and their sound contains a mix of funk/rock-steady/alternative/folk genre. Flea's playin is a demonstration of bass sound in funk songs.

  • @esta49 beautiful majestic are you nuts?

  • @elvispresley718 I find their music inspirational and beautiful.

  • once you really get into funk, flea is nothing but a door you pass through. once your learnin wooten and all these old grooves you find your soul, you dont just peel back the first layer.

  • @pookyman420 well said

  • Back to the basics...

  • i need a rape kit, cause this song is raping my ears with great music.

  • mi fa venire voglia di spogliarmi di tutto ciò che ho dentro ed essere libero da me...

  • I have his album FRESH but this is a different version than the one on the album (love it just the same). Where can I find this one?

  • ..

  • Sly Stone is KING. It saddens me that he is now homeless, living in a van. His van is parked on Crenshaw Blvd in South L.A. (about a mile from me) so I've been thinking I could do a search to find him ... I mean, we we're contempories in Hollywood. I saw him often, both performing live and just doing life. I became his biggest fan. There is only one problem; if he wants to be where he is? If so, it would be none of my business!

  • @lizzy11291950 Please don't tell me, No do Tell , This talented Man is sleeping in a

Van? May God Bless Him and I Pray Mr. Stone is Able to help himself. Sad situation, all too Real Peace

  • @buchananjosalyn Yes, sorry to say. I heard this on more than one news program and read it in the L.A. Weekly and the L.A. Times, all over the last few months. If you search for his music, there is also a video reporting on his situation. Breaks my heart!

  • @lizzy11291950 You are so correct. "Hot fun in the Summertime was out when I was in high school. There is no doubt there have been "accounting and spending issues", I just pray he wakes up and "Tries to "Do it Again".

  • @lizzy11291950 if you see him please say hello from a long time UK fan. I loved this song when I was a teenager. I hope the Chilis know about him - they could help him out (assuming, as you say, he wanted that)

  • this is one of the most badass songs of all time.

  • DAMN I LOVE FUNKY BEATS

  • Remember to Freddi-Henchi band cover this in Denver, 1973-74. Loved Kathy O back then. What a song, what a woman! Thanks for the memories.

  • can i borrow your pocket Mr.Graham?

  • I was 12 years old when this album droped. I was sitting in my room smoking the original columbian gold with door locked, I listened to over and over and over again. Not much has changed sense then. Im still Jammin and its just about 420.

  • reminds me of the good days

  • if youn want meeeeeeee to stay

  • this is the craziest song

  • I want the sky to be chemtrail free, available for us to see.Organic farmers want to be free to drink raw milk and plant pure seeds. What kind of person chemtrails Earth and all living things?Chemtrail rhetoricians are number one.Trolls try to waste our truth seeking time.I am around today to help get the chemtrailing truth out, before its to late.Do not let chemweb clouds seed away our freedoms, and mutate our food and plants. We all want to be free no doubt.I wish for chemtrailing to stop.Be good.

  • @ChemtrailKansas That was not ONLY Beautiful, but Necessary for us to Exist !! thanks for sharing that thought. (My dear, late Mom, was always talking about "chemtrails" and I'd tell here she had a "conspiracy theory", I take all that back now, "Sorry Mom !!! Peace to All

  • so cool........

  • Gonna cover this one for our new years eve show this year.

  • @sweetpickleglass yeah rite!!!!!!

  • I blame myself for being white!

  • @lilcarmichael im with you bro

  • how can anyone not like funk music

  • 15 people got dumped to this song...

  • Why would someone dislike this?????

  • @Lorenzofire Because they were asked to leave!

  • How can anyone be negative listening to this song? This song is so chill so why cant we all be chill and enjoy this flavor. Internet rage isn't needed. Let's all have a drink and relax listening to this song. Beautiful music. Appreciate

  • like if the chili peppers brought you hear.

  • @MBE3393 They did, but i actually prefer this version!

  • sly is homeless now and living in his van, yeah he and his music is old but the soul is there in his music and i pray that things get better for him.

  • @almondhead1 Amen to that. He has given us some great music. This is by far my favorite Sly song.

  • RROooOOOoooOOAaaAaR ... Great Song !!!! Great performance!!!!

  • One of the BEST song's of the 70's!

  • thank god my dad knew good music.

  • Beautiful bass.

  • those 14 dislikes are blatently justin bieber.

  • Lets face it - Class never dies. You just have to look for it

  • rizzle kicks.

  • Medium :'(

  • The bass line in this song was what got me hooked to sly and the family stone. I used to listen to their greatest hits cd at my old office and everyone that walked by would say 'what the hell are you listening to?' and I would smile and say 'I am listening to the FUNK' :) also, how cool is this band to play late night at woodstock and have every hippie in the place up on their feet dancing, just awesome

  • @marlinman892004 if you dont like this song you dont have any music in you

  • scrolling through comments to look for what @WasveRider421 said

  • amazing ;)

  • I have been reading some of these comments and they are hilarious! Love Ya! : D

  • dawn that was one of my favorite red hot chili peppers songs, i thought it was theirs. i guess they would be lost without sly, meters and ohio players huh

  • the above comments by @WasveRider421 are a cry for help...please shot the fkr and help us all...pussy

  • now this great music you can take rap & hip hop and shove that in the gutter

  • I got to hand it to Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, he really deserves a lot of thanks for keeping funk alive. This is one of thier cover tunes.

  • @MightyZarkon That chilis cover got me into Sly & the family stone, t'is a great song

  • @ItsBusinessTime94 me too!

  • @ItsBusinessTime94 Ha, same here. I like Sly's version a lot more, though. Probably because it's the original. And AK just can't sound as distressed as Sly does (IMO)

  • @MightyZarkon wtf are you talking about, who are the red hot chili peppers? who they are, they did not keep the funk alive

  • @MightyZarkon That's ridiculous. Flea and The RHCP's are not standard bearers for Funk music. Prince & The Revolution/NPG and The Time were the last great standard bearers of Funk. Prince added the New Wave element which was a progression from the Funk of the 70's.

  • @bolder2009 RHCP has been around for 28 years, they didn't just get here!

  • @MightyZarkon If you wanna talk about who's keping Funk alive, I can give you some names but it certainly ain't any artists in the mainstream.

  • @bolder2009 u honestly havent heard the old chili peppers.. George Clinton was their producer for Freaky Styley. He wanted to go where the funk was in that time.

  • @bolder2009 Flea/RHCP and mainstream? I'm sorry but those don't ever go together!

  • C L A S S I C / N O W ! !This Is A Great Version, This is Not The Lp Version...close, but sounds Like A Couple of Tracks are Missing?!

  • it still sounds good!

  • can you diggg the funk rookies?........

  • BASELINE IS JUST SICK!!!!

  • This is magnificient!

  • What the fuck? I thought Sly was dead? No?

  • @ballpeenbaby sly isn't dead. he is homeless in california (he lives in his van). he fell on hard times primarily due to drug abuse problems. ...just curious, what made u think he was dead?

  • He was on Letterman who asked him if he was behaving...Sly had just nicked a ring or something from a department store lol

  • Sly is NOT homeless by tragedy or financial lack. He's homeless by Choice. He decided to live in a Van, to avoid the trap of a house...With a "paid" assistant and Driver in tow he enjoys making music to Entertain himself. Watch season premier of :Behind the Music: Sly & Fam, He's very happy with his life in a van style.

  • eargasms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • if everyone donated 1 dollar to Sly he wouldn't be homeless

  • @kraiggrady He will just use it for drugs, liston to the words to this song (you know my woman taking up my time) Girl bro. be so good I wish I could, I love Sly to, but will he ever love himself to stop and really know who really is? I was around him when I was a 16 year kidd he was funk forever will I love Mr. Steward !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this man living in his van now........dam dam dam

  • Comment removed

  • that intro is CRAAAAAAZZZYY

  • gives me chills every time i here it!

  • Red hot chili peppers did an amazing cover of this

  • Only problem with this song: It's not long enough.

  • @Bostonunderground12 sly ain't believe in letting a track get long in the tooth it would seem...all their hits are like 3 minutes at most

  • @Bostonunderground12 most good one arnt..except price he said thats why his are more then the indusrys average..when peole listne to music they want to flow and jam not just get a taste to which thats how they got people to buy cncert tickests o as to hear more..

  • from which album is this song ?

  • dat nigga look like a black MASK wit a afro!

  • FYI. I am 50. Retired Surfing, Funkin Jammin Sly, Curtis, George and many more. Baking all day everyday.at my home on the beach in the sun. Wake and Bake Medical maryjane for all the haters out there. Smoke a joint relax then meditate on your negativity release it then learn to love.. Age is means nothing the body ages. But the mind and the spirit remain young. I feel sory for the younger generations who cant hear the message in all slys music. Tune in Haters

  • @WasveRider421 "FYI. I am 50."

    Yeah. I said that.

"Age is means nothing the body ages. But the mind and the spirit remain young."

Yeah you keep telling yourself that as you spend half your day looking for things you just had in your hand 5 minutes before, and wandering from room to room in your "beach house" trying to figure out why you went into the first one to begin with.

  • @mikerotcherson

Ooooo....PREACH! I often can't remember what I did...five minutes ago. Peace be still.

  • @WasveRider421 lol you should feel sorry for ignorance, not youth :D

  • So much soul in that greatful voice <3

  • One of the great soul voices...listen to the way he phrases......ah yeah...

  • Both this version and chili peppers are fucken amazing

  • I heard the rhcp version first. But it brought me to liking the original better and ultimately discovering sly and the family stone. Which I love to this day

  • OMG!!!! this song dropped when I was 14 years old. I played this over & over again!!! I played it so much I had to buy a new album LOL!!!! I went to see Sly and the family stone March 1974 my first concert it was great! The bass guitar is kicking in this song!!!!!!!

  • Help!!..My finger is glued to the replay button and I can't get up!

  • This is the alternate version of this song. The real version is so much better. Thumbs up so people can look up the album version.

  • There are seven (7) people who were asked to LEAVE!!

  • Sly is my favourite smokin music as well.

Second place would have to be stevie wonder.

  • @a1974h As I was reading all the comments about smoking, I suggest all you glaucoma victims visit WAR's "Four Cornered Room" and "All Day Music".

This song has entirely too much energy for your endeavors.

    Best of luck.

  • Just sittin' here smoking and toking some fine amnesia haze import, chillin' my pals, I can't smoke a zoot without listening to this song anymore... Not a care in the world ;) World Peace brothers. x

  • @robbiemusicboy Oh man I love toking to this song. No doubt its tastiness is undeniable.

  • sly is a bad man on the music front....... when i was littte girl i remember listin 2 his music in my home.....

  • a great song to do the "bump" to. The Bump was a one year dancin' sensation in the seventies.

  • EL JAMIROQUAI DE LOS 70 YEA HUUUU

  • @GMOACH1 el correcto es: Jamiroquai es Sly and the family stone de los 90!

  • This song speaks volumes. Just listen and learn.

  • but for everyone

  • Very nice this song!

  • grew up listening sfs......

  • Sly had us all in the palm of of his hand for a wonderful 15 year run. Worked one of the first ethnically integrated pop bands ever, was one of the first to prominently feature horns in his band, layed down a hot/cool brand of funk before funk was cool, and brought people together harmony.

His spare arrangements gave us exactly what was needed without pomp or excess- a true pop artist: get to the meat of the jam, snag'em with the hook, and bring'em all home- to Funktown.

    Sly= Icon Of Pop.

  • Sly is SICK on his guitar but don't sleep on his LYRICS!

  • this is always be one of the best songs ever. i can't get tired of it.

  • is that the original "Fresh" Version of the song? The Ones I have on my "The Essentials: Sly & The Family Stone" Version has less instrumental background to it.

  • Six dislikes!??? I could smack 6 faces and their mommas'... Now find me 12 people to slap.

  • @BJtheBassist Don't slap'em. They just need to learn to stay in their lane.

  • reminds me of money talks lol

  • nomba 1 'sgonna be nomba 1!!

  • Ever since I heard this song on Money Talks I fell in love with it. Talented dude on the vocals...LOVE IT

  • He was the definition of FRESH.

  • Larry Graham is the man, a flea is a pest, and somewhere in the middle is Sly on the bass

  • @notnowliberty

    whats wrong with Flea?

  • Comment removed

  • LOVE IT, GOOOOOOOOD MUSIC

  • I THINK IT'S LARRY GRAHAM ON BASS

  • @PTARE07 - That would be Rustee Allen on bass. Larry Graham had already left the group by this time.

  • I love the bass. But Sly had that 70's sterotypical black voice, that's the only way i can describe it. And i fucking love it!
