@biggachu My tracks were recorded first and on them, it was just a coincident; that I was wearing two different striped polo shirts. Mike seemed to like it and joined in on it. It makes is look somewhat uniform and more like a real quartet, I think.
Nice one, fellas! I really love these collabs, and I think you did a great job, both of you. Just one thing: hold back on the vibrato :-). Other than that, I salute you, gentlemen! Oh, and the t-shirt-cloning idea was nice too
maaan patrick what a great video concept! the tag sounded great, but imo the video was the breast of this one! good idea on the shirts, though it didn't add a whole lot for me, that's okay though; cause I effin love this one. haha I wrote a whole paragraph describing what I like about it, but maybe I'll save it from boring the general public lol
Patrick, just the first "smile" needed to be a bit brighter, and yes, less operatic! As my singing teacher would say, 'More "ah," like you're snarling!' Even try a bit of a snarl - but perhaps not to the extent that I do. Also, Vibrato in barbershop is EVIL unless you're a Lead! Otherwise, great job, fellas! Love the video, too - it's different and refreshing!
I agree about the first "smile": it's not a real "ah" vowel (meaning that my vocal tract and therefore the formants are tuned wrong).
But for the rest of the tag it's more like too muffled (meaning lack of high frequencies) than too dark (meaning a strong fundamental and a strong first vocal formant). I know what's causing that muffled sound and I have to work on that (for classical singing as well as other styles like Barbershop).
About the vibrato: I guess I'm not really a Barbershopper.
Do I remember you once saying you were clasically trained? I can't remember... It just takes a little more effort if you're in the habit of using vibrato on all of your notes!
Just try to focus on holding every note completely still and steady, and keep your vowels bright, and you'll hear the difference yourself : D
Patrick, the "operatic" thing is just about your vowels! They tend to be dark, and for barbershop, you need bright vowels! Think 'lift' when you're singing!
Did you guys plan on wearing 4 different striped polos like that?

another good tag team
I like the video layout and the striped attire. Chords at "world" and final "smile" sound great.
Pace yourselves, guys! You both look so worn out after the tag.

Thanks, Josh! The video concept was Mike's idea - so he's the one earning the credit for that :).
And I don't mind long comments at all - the more info about what people like or dislike the better!

great job on the tag and i think its nice to have a rich sounding bass in my opinion it better supports the upper registers

Thanks! Do you think I sound operatic, again? I think on this one I noticed it myself, too - especially on the bass.
Partyburner 2 years ago
nah, LOL... but it does make sweet overtones with mike's country voice...
both compliment eachother very well
