It is absurd to allow private companies to "own" genes or any aspect of life. The gene pool is a common legacy but the privatizers are not likely to give up. The simple solution is to allow them to play their silly game and then take from them via taxation the entire value that humanity gives to the genes they isolate and "own". Most of that value is community created value as is the value of the entire natural universe in private hands. Let them recover their investment but no more.
