Both sides have had opportunities for peace. From 1967 to 1987, Hamas did not exist, but people decided they wanted to build settlements. Of course, Nasser messed things up for the Palestinians by his moves in '67. I am not sure you can say the state works for peace if it builds settlements. You do know that building settlements often entails expelling those who are non-Jews from the land so Russians can make Aliyah and Israelis can have subsidized housing. The settlements are subsidized.

I disagree with your generalization of what Israelis want. Yes, some Israelis support the settlements in the West Bank.. most of them are religious and rather arrogant, as are the Palestinian religious pricks. But for the most part, Israelis strive for peace, but in no way can one expect the Israelis to not fight back against terrorism, and if they have jets to drop bombs from, then by all means they should use them to minimize their own casualties.

Hamas has been continuously rocketing Israel during a 6 month cease-fire, any other country would have taken a FAT SHIT on any who attacked them so. Hamas completely ignored the 6 month ceasefire which was propose by Egypt and carried out by Israel, and Israel alone... a ceasefire means both countries stop, Israel did while Hamas still fired rockets into Israel. Then once the ceasefire expired, Hamas dramatically increased the amounts of mortar and rockets fired into Israel. Israel attacked Gaza in defense of its CIVILIANS, Hamas targets civilians of Israel, Israel targets Hamas activists, end of story get your facts right.

I just learned that 1\6 of the casaulties are women and children, I think its a grim reality of what is going on, but if those civilians are going to reside next to Hamas targets, most likely atleast supporting Hamas, they should have seen it coming. The palestinians never had a land, the British gave Palestine (a British mandate) to the Jews who not only made better use of it, but did not wish to remove any arabs who were already residing in the area, but they had to because of anti-Jewish actions the arabs carried out such as murdering Jews, burning their homes and shops. Most Palestinians who left their land left on their own will. The only reason the Haganah expelled an Arab from the land was if their village was on a strategic point, disrupting communications, an Arab military base or in any way harassing nearby Jewish settlements. you are right, they had land, but many of them left by their own free will, they really were asked to stay. The Irgun and Stern gangs were mostly looked down upon the majority of Jews, they both did terrible things but in the end were incorporated into the Haganah and took upon its policies.

In 1948, the Palestinians could have had a state. That's hindsight 20/20. They were used to moving without impediment in all parts of their land, so decided they didn't want to all of a sudden lose half of it. The Jewish militias felt they had to encourage them to leave to have a Jewish majority for political purposes. You can't have a state otherwise. The Jews who arrived had no choice, they fled the pogromi in Russia and the holocaust. Many simply had to fight the Arab forces. Fate?
