Opening guiltar riff to Love Removal Machine by the Cult is the defining Gretsch metal sound. Overdriven Gretschs with Filtertrons have a VERY hard punchy sound to them, where as when Billy Duffy used a Les Paul it sounded more smooth.
Another example would be the rhythm guitars to Fire Woman. Or the song American Horse, look up the studio version and listen when the song stops towards the end and Billy strikes a HUGE power chord. That's a Gretsch, he only used Gibsons for lead.
this is probably a stupid question, but ive always wondered, what are those things above and below the tremolo? they look almost like bent strap buttons to me.
@MiniMightyMan96 Those are levers that engage a couple of mutes which live between the Bridge and the bridge pickup. If you look at the guitar there is a fixture just ahead of the bridge. That fixture has a split mute, basically consisting of a high density foam. The lever above the tremolo engages the mute for the lower three strings, and the lever below the tremolo engages the mute for the higher three strings by raising the foam so that it presses against the bottom of the strings.
I LOVE THIS GUY!!!! everytime im hunting for a very top end guitar review he plays them to you and reviews it .... he never fails.. whether it is a gretsch or a rickenbacher he has it .. thank you for being the only one on you tube who will review these guitars for us =)
Oh Boy...this is the most beautiful electrified guitar i've ever seen and the sound is just awesome...a dream came true for you,i suppose, congratulations!
Hi gotta question for you that I wonder if you could help out with, I have a chance to buy a 1972 Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennessean and was wondering what a fair price is, the seller is asking $1750. Any help is appreciated! thanks
@Jaysin13 dude re-issues go for 12,00.00. Thats definitely a good deal in my opinion. Just check to see if theres anything wrong with it before your purchase
@danakerman The Edge can play plenty fast. Not wanting to and not being able to are 2 different things as well. Its all about what comes out of the speakers. What comes out of Edges speakers cant be matched
@sockerdood11 I think you were pretty smart! I wish I had the opportunity to do that. You bought when the market was real low, it's only gonna go up. It was a better choice than buy a bunch of stocks for sure......stay tuned for more cool stuff from me......
Don't doubt it. I just bought a 1960 white falcon the other day. And I know people are probably like "bullshit. Those are super expensive". But I got a $72,000 scholarship to the university of alabama and spent my saving that I didn't have to use ALL on guitars
That exact guitar you hold in this video is my dream guitar. I have a B.C Rich Nj Series Bich. But the White Falcon is the one guitar that absolutly made my heart stop. With a Falcon your not just playing throught and amp, your playing through your soul. i would love to get my hands on one soon but doubt it will ever happen.
hey man i love your gretsch videos, and that White Falcon its just the best!!! i got a gretsch electromatic 2008 model it sorta looks like a white falcon lol. i'm 16 so i can't really afford something like a white falcon, but one day i'll defiantly get a white falcon and if im lucky enough it will be a great vintage model. Keep up the Awesome vids!!!
Great cover of "She Sells Sanctuary," Mr. Vintage Music!
I myself, own a Gretsch, a Country Gent double cutaway to be specific and while I agree that they are great and verstile guitar, I will have to disagree with your Sparkle Jet as a part of the "Gretsch Holy Trinity." (mentioned in another video.)
Dave this is the cleanest W.Falcon I have ever seen.Mine is a 67 Stereo with lot of nicotine and vibe.Beautiful video.Again Congratulation on such a fine work on Gretsch guitars this time.Greetings - Andreja
Thank you. I love this Falcon too. And I like this particular version, the cool "G" vibrato with telescoping arm, and tuning fork bridge, as well as having the older control layout with the 3 way switches on the upper bout. Some from this era have all the switches on the lower end of the body which I don't like.
I wish he would quit talking and just play...

@MiniMightyMan96 i heard somewhere they stop feedback of some sort. somehow dampens the vibration of the wood. its all crazy and extravagant.

@1954telecaster The Edge from U2 is a genius of sound. You don't have to have fast fingers to be a great guitarist or musician.
