I do not think this video and the song it's self have the same message. It's about a deluded school shooter while having opening verses that mislead you into thinking it's about a soldier. It's not rocket science to decipher this one.

I'm my perspective, It seems this video is referring to our government in a way. In the beginning, it show two pigs standing over a puddle of oil. I would say that represents the government trying to keep the oil to themselves. And around 3:40 it shows two kids playing catch with some sort of bomb. It looks like the Atomic bomb "Fat Man" that was dropped on Japan during the ending of WWII. That could represent war, In a way...
"Behind your desks" could easily be referring to the "Duck, and Cover!" ads during the Cold War.

@13timmeh Thank goodness we have Obama now who is down sizing our military by over one trillion dollars when our nation faces more threats than we've ever seen, like Iran building a nuclear arsenal and missile sites in Venezuela.And North Korea that already has nuclear weapons and an itchy trigger finger.And with all of that Obama shut down our missile defense systems in eastern Europe leaving us vulnerable to attack from Iran and Korea.If GW was a moron then what do we call Obama?

@Philiam1973 This video is about war for oil, nationalism, and corrupted politics that defend corporate interests---sending soldiers to war over lies about WMDs/defense when it's really about oil (like Iraq War). Libya's intentions are clear, to help the rebels there. Oil resources at stake definitely interested some Europeans but these intentions weren't lied about. I know facts aren't your thing, but comparing Bush to Obama is a false comparison.

The fighter plane/birds and the kids tossing the bomb around like a ball are showing the how he views everyday life as he's a soldier in a war. Dexter Holland says that the song is from the perspective of a deluded school shooter, who thinks he is serving his country by killing the few (Take a life so others may live) Theres also that line "Now you can hide behind your deskes/ and say teacher help me" to emphasize the situation. Your point is very good, though: it is about the corruption of the coorporate world as well.

Now at that time I had never seen any video... and in heinsight I wish the last few lines of the song did not exist (because I think it would be a tribute to the veterans that keep you... oh, I don't know... Well... for the longest time, I thought this song was dark, yet possitive about the tribulations of an American Soldier... being a two time vetran of Iraq, I found very many relationships to that. I never really thought of the last lines much, if I did I heard it as, "you can cry teacher, come help me" Because I am out there making it possible for you to go to school... "and through you all my aim is true"... I can get the bad guys EVEN if they are hiding behind you...

And yes, the subject of the song is sorta confusing. Maybe it's about violence in general and what it does to people? "bang banging hammers in my head". Could be about the hammers that bang in a soldiers head when he thinks about what he has been through. Could also be about the hammers in a disturbed kids head who gets picked on all the time and then decides to go to school to shoot some people. I can't tell for sure, I can just say that the song is good and it makes me sad at the same time :(

Believe me at first I didn't think it was about that too but the more I heard this song the more I could hear the meaning behind it: school shootings. Also, the video seems to confuse people. But then again I think the kids are wearing school uniforms. So yeah..Hope I helped.

I'm my perspective, It seems this video is referring to our government in a way. In the beginning, it show two pigs standing over a puddle of oil. I would say that represents the government trying to keep the oil to themselves. And around 3:40 it shows two kids playing catch with some sort of bomb. It looks like the Atomic bomb "Fat Man" that was dropped on Japan during the ending of WWII. That could represent war, In a way...

"Behind your desks" could easily be referring to the "Duck, and Cover!" ads during the Cold War.
I'm too drunk to tell what it really means, but because it mentions desks, doesn't mean that it is about school shootings - could have historical significance.
