By the way, what about NBC's game shows? DId WBZ not air any of them? In 1985, Sale of the Century was on at 10, Wheel at 11, Super Password at 12 and Scrabble at 12:30. Did any of these air on BZ?
Well, it was mentioned that Wheel was on a competing station, so obviously, thats out. BZ had noon news and People Are Talking at 12:30. I don't think Sale was in this market.
I think they meant that the nighttime Wheel was on another station, namely WNEV. I also said that Sale was on at 10:30 until Win Lose or Draw took that spot in 1987. NBC probably had to contact another station to air whatever shows BZ didn't air and Sale wouldn't be left out of such a large market.
Sale was on Ch. 4 when it Debuted at the 10:30 spot. Wheel stayed on 4 for much of their run, Scrabble was on at 11:30. I don't recall it moving to another time. Super Password was NEVER on Ch. 4. When Sale moved to 10am, Ch.4 moved it to Ch. 68 WQTV(now WBPX), which also had Super Password.
Interesting that they use clips from the 1980-81 intro of SNL to talk about how popular it was getting at the time.....about four years after those episodes were on air!
How does WCVB getting sold twice in a four year period create chaos? Yeah, I know it is for WBZ's ad time but WCVB didn't change for the worse at all, although they would be losing their original local programming in the next decade excluding Chronicle.
WBZ had to make a convincing pitch to advertisers somehow, even if it included bending the truth just a little about its competitors. WCVB getting sold twice in a matter of four years was a coup as far as an opposing argument went, but it couldn't be more true that Channel 5's monentum was not lost during Metromedia and the start of Hearst.
Although I have always had much respect for Channel 7, i'm sure WNEV's wine must have tasted extra bitter with all the turnover in news personalities that have continued for them.

I think it's kind of interesting that WBZ takes a jab at CBS, considering they're now owned by the Tiffany Network...

Nice use of the Catch 5 theme when the guy introduces the glass of wine.

That, of course, was the theme for "Live on 4" during this time frame.

I have not heard that part of the closing theme in a few years. I remember hearing that theme on the old News Music Pipeline website on Geocities.
