In the cell fight, he had the kamehameha battle in the bag and if it were not for vegeta's sneak attack it would have been game over for gohan; and that would be the end of everyone since no one else was strong enough to stop him. The Buu fight was much worse, since they had to wish Goku's full strength back with the dragon balls in order for him to destroy Buu with the spirit bomb
