  • My dad just showed me the original of this. Interesting. Lindbergh actually flew several combat missions in the Pacific during WWII -- probably out of racism rather than anti-fascism...

  • @JBurdoo Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you liked this one.

  • I'm from okemah

  • your good..get on tour..you'll have a laugh..and me n loads of friends could realy get into your strong powerfull stuff

  • As an amateur folksinger, I don't think there's much chance of that! Thanks for the suggestion though.

  • I'm a Brit born 30 years after the events in the song, but I still love it. Great lesson in lyric-writing.

Guthrie's contempt shines through for the monster Lindy has become.

I can't quite make out the last chord:

D-G-D then what? I know I should be able to work it out, but hey, I like lyrics more....

I'll give it a run at the local folk night if you explain this last bit.

    \Word.

  • A7 then D

  • Ahhh! I tried Amaj without success, should have persevered!

    Thanks very much!

  • I am American and have never heard this. Line about John L. Lewis daughters was interesting. So did Woody and Pete get their orders from the Communist International?

  • It's not one of Woody's best known songs, and obviously rather dated as it comments on events at that time. Nice tune though.

  • Great song. A new one to me. I need to expand my Woody Guthrie collection. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

  • You're welcome. It's always worth expanding our Woody Guthrie collection. He wrote a lot of great songs.

  • I think we owe Woodie alot of things we take for granted today, a wonderful cover Ray

    Cheers!

    Rick

  • A great man. I agree we owe him a lot. Thanks for your comment, Rick.

  • Wonderful work, Raymond. Ciao, Marco

  • Thanks once again for your support, Marco.

  • one of my favorires!

  • Quite a catchy song. Thanks for dropping by.

  • Great job. Sounds a lot like "Cannonball Blues"

  • It is basically the same tune. Woody often set his lyrics to Carter family melodies.

  • Great performance again, Raymond......I'm surprised that I hadn't heard that song before, powerful! All the best :-) Alan

  • hanks, Alan. He wrote so many songs. I'm sure there are still plenty I haven't heard.

  • Thanks, Travis. Woody certainly passed on a lot of interesting history,

  • Great bit of history in this tune, similar to most of Woody's tunes you share with us. Thanks for sharing Raymond!
