This can be a starting point, I guess, but from then on, you should be dealing with each email as it comes in and getting it out of the inbox. I did this on my Gmail inbox, and i was a good feeling putting those hundreds of emails into the Archive. I try to keep the inbox small, but it still gets to a few dozen every now and then. It really needs regular effort.

OMG it is a family conspiracy! You need to deal, reply, save and deal with it. another box of stuff to go through. Your brother is still putting too much stuff off in boxes for a later date. LOL .
