  • is this a reaction exothermic or endothermic? and have you got a reference for it? the iodide and persulphate?

  • @hansishigh The reaction is exothermic from what i know.

  • @hodon99 thanks :L but i had found it out ages ago - my entire last month consisted of doing this experiment. :L xD

  • @hansishigh i am going to be carrying out this experiment all next week. When you were measuring out the reactants did you use burrette or graduated pipette.

  • @hodon99 grade/classAglass-the % error between them is slight if you can use both pieces of equipment very well, pipette is better though. I used 2 50ml burrettes, 1 for the I- and and the other for dist.water in 1 beaker,(because it was MUCH faster setting up) adding starch and thiosulphate to the same beaker using the pipettes ( because they were small volumes-the error would be larger if using burrettes with smaller volumes), and then just used a pipette to add the persulphate to start it.

  • @hansishigh Thanks alot!

I was also wondering did you make all your solutions form their solid powder. How long did it take to make them all.

  • @hodon99 um... yeah i made everything from their powder/crystal form into water. KI starch and thiosulphate are easy, persulphate takes longer (recommended a magnetic stirrer) - umm it took me about 2 hours to make a week's worth but im slow xD - you could do it in 1:30. (if you're only using them for a week they should be fine but test the starch each day with some unwanted iodine- the change should be immediate, if its slow make new starch)

  • @hansishigh I'm really sorry for all the questions, thanks again =)

how did you you make the 1% starch, is it the same as the way other standard solutions are made. Also how much did you fill the burrettes do you recommend that i fill all the way up or half way.

  • @hodon99 umm for the starch, just add 1 gram of soluble starch into a 100ml beaker, add about 10ml of dist. water. make a paste, then make it 50ml, stir, put it in a microwave, (taking it out everynow and then to check it;s fully dissolved) for about a minute. then pour into a 100ml volumetric flask, and rinse the beaker and funnel with dist. water into the flask then fill the flask up to the 100ml mark. invert it a few times and then put into a beaker for use.

  • @hansishigh The burrette question just depends on how much you'll be using in one session.

  • thanks sir

  • i am lost at 1:48

  • This awesome..could you do one using Colorimetric analysis.
