The point is not what we call it--be it a shock or "tasered," my point is that they have turned one incident, where someone refused to follow a safety rule, into an issue about racial profiling. His justifications, or your own post hoc speculations, for refusing to show his ID are irrelevant. He was not "jumped;" he was repeatedly asked to show ID or leave; his refusal prompted the use of force. Those are the facts. Just because he was not "white" does not mean he was profiled.

It's unreasonable to point to instances where "non-whites" suffer a consequence after defying authorities and then automatically call it a racial issue. Like I said, Americans are dying today in war. You missed the point entirely. First, the issue with the soldiers dying is to point out that we can make a stink and garner attention for this alleged racial profiling--but it is silly to draw this much attention to an instance where a young man was shocked 5 times when Americans (Iraqi civilians also, for that matter) in another land are being maimed and killed right now. I didn't say not to tackle more than one issue at a time; I'm only putting it into perspective.

The video of the incident speaks for itself. He refused to leave or to let the officers carry him out. He was being a punk ass liberal bitch by trying to make some ignorant political statement. But it's UCLA what do you expect??

Here it is spelled out for you. It's real simple. School makes rules. Student breaks rules. Security is called. Student becomes belligerent. Police are called. Student is given commands. Student does not comply. STUDENT MAKES THE CHOICE TO ESCALATE THE SITUATION (this is where the clip starts). Police give more commands. Student resists. Police deal with the situation. Clip is posted on youtube. Then a bunch of you start to bitch.

Secondly, I stated it doesn't matter what his or your (or his lawyer's)justifications were for not leaving when told to do so. My point is that you and others have tried to turn this into a case of racial profiling AS A JUSTIFICATION for not following the rules. It doesn't suprise me the lawyer came up with that AFTER THE FACT. His lawyer has confirmed as much. He refused to comply with school policy and refused to comply with the law (trespassing, disorderly conduct, interference with police, etc). Typical knee-jerk reaction over one incident, and not a clear cut one at that. First, the police was called in by the library guard; so they probably already expect problem. Second, the kid was stupid enough to resist. Third, one incident doesn't mean a systematic flaw.
