this police officer is not at fault. he is employed by ucla and they tell him to do that. it is ucla that has these policies of disrespect for human life. they know they are above the law. this makes ucla too powerful in a free society.
I love the fact that those students think this is a protest worthy incident, in England we would just say "oh dear, guess you had a bad day," Still at least you've got a novel excuse to hand in work late: "sorry I'll have it next week, i was busy being filmed getting tased from behind by a bunch of uniformed men."
Look at these assholes out protesting over someone that got shocked after he didn't follow the safety rules at the library! They are upset over a shock. Whether you support the war or not, do you think they are aware that Americans are dying today in Iraq? Give me a break!
you and the guy that posted before you are ignorant morons. A shock??? The guy was tasered at least 4 times! He was jumped by the security when he was leaving the library. He did not break any rules, he only refused to show his ID because he did not want to participate in his own racial profiling.
The point is not what we call it--be it a shock or "tasered," my point is that they have turned one incident, where someone refused to follow a safety rule, into an issue about racial profiling. His justifications, or your own post hoc speculations, for refusing to show his ID are irrelevant. He was not "jumped;" he was repeatedly asked to show ID or leave; his refusal prompted the use of force. Those are the facts. Just because he was not "white" does not mean he was profiled.
It's unreasonable to point to instances where "non-whites" suffer a consequence after defying authorities and then automatically call it a racial issue. Like I said, Americans are dying today in war. We have much better things to concentrate on than a young man disobeying safety rules and subsequent authorities and arguably receiving too much force.
what safety rule did he break?? Arguable too much force? He was tasered 5 times man. After he was trying to walk out the library. Do a google on the kids name and look on wiki. The officer that tasered him has been involved in more than enough incidents where he used too much force and has been recommended for dismissal!
Just because you have soldiers dying in Iraq doesn't mean you can't tackle other issues too, or is your system so fubar'd that you can only handle one thing at a time?
You missed the point entirely. First, the issue with the soldiers dying is to point out that we can make a stink and garner attention for this alleged racial profiling--but it is silly to draw this much attention to an instance where a young man was shocked 5 times when Americans (Iraqi civilians also, for that matter) in another land are being maimed and killed right now. I didn't say not to tackle more than one issue at a time; I'm only putting it into perspective.
I respect a protest against excessive use of government force. However, I don't respect people like you and those protesting when you ignore the fact he wasn't following a safety rule and refused demands to peacefully leave. But mainly, I can't respect that this case is automatically turned into an issue about racial profiling.
You don't respect me? Oh no! Yet you don't even tell me what rule he broke. Why? Because he broke no safety rule, thats why! He WAS trying to leave and they tasered him. How do you expect someone to leave a building when you have a cop on your back TASERING you. You cry about these people protesting, but I am damned sure if something like this happened to you, you would be up in arms something fierce!
Ha, ha, your speculations crack me up--I notice you haven't addressed the main issue, that is racial profiling. I saw the video, I heard officers demanding him to leave, I heard his refusals. Ummmm, did not leave, did not follow reasoned demands, use of force authorized. End of story. I saw your favorites list; since you are one of those asses that think 9/11 was fake, how do know this wasn't just a set up? A government conspiracy? You're so full of shit and now I know why.
The video of the incident speaks for itself. He refused to leave or to let the officers carry him out. He was being a punk ass liberal bitch by trying to make some ignorant political statement. But it's UCLA what do you expect??
Here it is spelled out for you. It's real simple. School makes rules. Student breaks rules. Security is called. Student becomes belligerent. Police are called. Student is given commands. Student does not comply. STUDENT MAKES THE CHOICE TO ESCALATE THE SITUATION (this is where the clip starts). Police give more commands. Student resists. Police deal with the situation. Clip is posted on youtube. Then a bunch of you start to bitch.
Secondly, I stated it doesn't matter what his or your (or his lawyer's)justifications were for not leaving when told to do so. My point is that you and others have tried to turn this into a case of racial profiling AS A JUSTIFICATION for not following the rules. It doesn't suprise me the lawyer came up with that AFTER THE FACT. Labeling one's inability to follow rules or labeling one's indignant response to an authoritive demand to follow rules as racial profiling is absurd in this situation.
It's about time that the young people of America once again stand up to abusive authority. This is America. There should be no tolerance for this kind of BS.
These students are sooo awesome! Just like the civil-rights protests in the 60s! But since there's no more real injustice, they take up the cause of any radical dipshit and pretend it's the Rosa Parks incident so they can feel like they are 'fighting the power!'Next time stay home and listen to your ipods and play your Nintendo Wii.
y'know, weirdly enough, i bet some people said the same thing about the rosa parks incident. that it was the cause of a radical dipshit, and it would never work.
I have a dream. That one day people will be able to break the rules at a library that are designed to keep the students safe and flop on the floor when asked to leave by campus security. This is my dream.
To say that anyone deserved 9/11 reveals your complete lack of maturity and anu kind of class.I'm gonna guess that you're from a loser country that supports terrorism and has the typical high unemployment and other conditions like oppression of women and children. At least we know of one or two of them that are gettijg a 9/11 of their own from out troops...now they deserve it! Please say there and keep the stink of your country off of ours'. Thanks.
Oh, and one more thing, how convenient that the student filming the incident just happened to have his video camera with him at the time. You fools, this was all staged, to make a statement and allow the asshole to get airtime. Also, if he is Iranian, I would imagine there is some money scam also going on here, like a lawsuit or some such thing. Never trust an Iranian. The only groups that compare with Iranian student scam artists and thieves are, of course, Pakistanis and Indians.
If you judge the police to be wrong here, you are a fool. This student is a student radical. He went to the library to purposefully force a confrontation to make a "statement". His lawyer has confirmed as much. He refused to comply with school policy and refused to comply with the law (trespassing, disorderly conduct, interference with police, etc). He is a student radical.
Video showed one of your student Mr. Tabatabainejad who audibly screaming in pain as he was stunned several times. He was also stunned with the Taser when he was already handcuffed. You may want hand him over to Mr. Cheney and I am sure once he get him through waterboarding, he'll confess his plans to destroy the world. Your school and all Americans seem to have lost the plot entirely.

Oh yeah he couldnt get up because he was paralized YET HE HAD the strength to kick BOTH fucking LEGS over his HEAD when officers tried to assist him geting up. Cry me a river you bleeding heart bastards, this guy REFUSED to show ID, REFUSED to leave, and REFUSED to comply with law enforcement. He is lucky they were to tired to beat his ass with batons.
Exactly, or he could have been creating the diversion for his buds who slipping into a utility closet to plant one. In any case, all eyes in the place were on this spoiled brat and no security was being monitored anywhere else in the building. Everybody complains about racial profiling, but the last time I checked, all of the terrorists I've seen look middle eastern. You can't be too careful.
You're right...not all middle easterners are terrorists, but all the terrorists I've seen doing their dirt against America are middle eastern so wee need profile unfortunately.
He's not, but a few people who went into the garage at the WTC in the 90s and blew it up were, but no one suspected them. Those who flew planes into the same towers in 2001 wrn't suspected before either, but they got it done. If you don't need ID to get into the UCLA library, any one of these dirtballs can come in and work their magic on the building and with the students who would be protesting the police for not checking IDs if that happened.
the use of the taser should definitely be sanctioned i think...
however the "victim" screaming about the patriot act should know that university policies requiring all personnel to carry ID has been around long long long before the patriot act--and in the case of my school prevented numerous dormitory thefts and other crimes...
i was once without ID in my junior year at a campus event and i cooperated, went to my room to get my ID and it was all over-in 1996
fuk that the police taser'd sum faggit fuk it he alive and he prob thinks hes a fuking hero fuk him fuk those faggits protesting, mabye the poof shuldve left wehn asked, fuking good job!1
Typical knee-jerk reaction over one incident, and not a clear cut one at that. First, the police was called in by the library guard; so they probably already expect problem. Second, the kid was stupid enough to resist. Third, one incident doesn't mean a systematic flaw. I wouldn't like getting tasered myself, nor do i like getting speeding ticket when there are 5 other cars as fast as me. But i don't cry injustice and protest the speed limit law.
The kid put up a mild resistance, and judging by his size one of the cops could have just just carried him out. There is obviously a local personel flaw in the UCLA Police Dept if this is how their officers are dealing with this.
Would you cry injustice if the cop beat the sh*t out of you with a night stick because he felt you were being insubordinate when serving you your speeding ticket? My friend, you're comparing apples to ground chuck.
Sorry kids but the last time I checked there are laws in this nation. If a person refuses to leave when asked then they are trespassing. Once he ignores a police officers request then he is resisting a police officer. They gave him every opportunity to back down and he chose not to.
He was handcuffed. What's the purpose of tasing? And how can he stand up when he's paralyzed from the tasing? I'd like to see you jump up and dance a jig after being shocked. Video tape it and post it on Youtube.
Doesn't mean that Tasering him MULTIPLE times wasn't excessive... once was... and they they kept tasering him and telling him to walk after he'd been tasered... try getting surges of electricity shot into you and then try moving your muscles...
just for your information you have to be tazed before you can carry on a beat so they know what it feels like and i should shoot you for wanting to shoot all cops u left wing nut job
I think americans should wake up from their ridiculous dream of freedom and justice, to see how their glorious nation now ain't nothing but a bunch of dangerous fanatics.
I'm sure that the wheels are already in motion to check out the background of this student and every member of his family and rightfully so. His attempt to incite an uprising just because he was in an area designated for use by students with the proper ID. It seems he has a problem with the nation that's offering a much better alternative to the radical muslim regime run state that Iran is. Moving back to Iran may be a good idea.
The kid deserved to be tasered for behaving like a crazy little bitch. It's just a shame they couldn't use some live ammunition on the fool.
