  • Wow, as a history lover I love seeing old things like this! It is so cool! I love how the teacher is just watching the boys wrestle. Nowadays you can't even play red rover or cross my ship without a teacher interfering because a kid may get touched the wrong way.

  • This is wonderful.

Many of those one room school houses are still around, although most are empty.

I hope they all get preserved.

  • This brings back nice memories. We went to a one room school in the country - the total school population went from 23 down to 7 when I was in third grade. No worries about bullies - the older kids were pretty good at keeping things fair. When I got to town school in fourth grade, we were half a year ahead of the town school kids in our learning!

  • Those two boys wrestling would be suspended and referred for counseling nowadays. You never see see-saws anymore!

  • I can agree with that!

  • Boy, does this remind me of A Christmas Story.

  • Thanks for your comment. Yes, there are a lot of similarities.

  • I remember being on a see-saw and the jerk, smart-aleck kid on the other end would hop off when he/she reached the bottom, slamming my butt HARD & about three feet in the air when I landed. Guess that's why you never see them at the schools anymore........

  • That happened to me too. I always hated to get on the see-saw with some big kid because just about every time they'd try to do something like that.
