I have HFA as this video calls it. I am more intelligent than most of the student body at my school and even some of the teachers. I may lack the experience they do, but I am far more intelligent. Having autism isn't fun, it's not a joke or something to laugh at. But I personally, view it as an advantage, not a dissorder or a problem. Sure people make fun of me, sure it hurts a lot inside but...I see the world from a more logical perspective, from all aspects and viewpoints. A gift AND a curse.
i am 40 years old and i have autism and people back then we where locked away i was put in an institution tell i was 12 the place was being sued because of the care of the children and the adults in there i was moved back home then special ed classes had started opening up . i learn to cook clean and live alone i even learn to drive so if you have autism live does get better when your an adult. i work with kids today that have autism and i love my job.
@WindOfSolitude It's normal to have obsessions. I'm autistic and I'm obsessed with the film The King's Speech. It may be about a stammering king but I could relate to the pain and self-doubt.
I have aspergers, currently changed to "autism spectrum disorder" and it pisses me off, that when I tell people that I have a disability they automatically think "retardation" and are like "WTF?!" and then when i say it's to do with social skills they're just like "That's not a disability!" People really need more information of what's out there in the world, rather than steryotyping and believing that they know everything!
I hope to one day obtain my masters in social work.

@oracle2world It's not an excuse. I have Asperger's Syndrome and I do OK, some people can't though. It's just something I have to deal with. Telling people with Autism and Aspergers to 'just get on with their lives', is like telling a dyslexic to 'just learn to read', or like telling a cripple to 'stop being lazy and get out of the chair'.
@superfawful65 You can`t call disabled people cripples - the Cockney ryming slang - Raspberry Ripple is much less offensive - LOL. You can call me a retard because I`m on the autistic spectrum , somewhere . lol
@superfawful65 - once folks figure out they can game the system, all sorts of "disabilities" come out of the woodwork. Maybe a dyslexic should not live their lives through reading. There is an enormous amount of trash written. ("dyslexics untie" - sorry, it was there). The crippled CAN get out, maybe in their chair, but do something, anything, to improve the world. Donate blood. Rant on YouTube. I have a damaged knee, and it hurts when jogging, but I still ran a marathon once.
@superfawful65 oh right so you're stating that like a cripple can't walk an aspergers syndrome is so general and widespread that they can't 'do life'. sounds like bullshit to me. a cripple speciifcally can't walk and a dysliexic specifically can't read and that sounds like it has meaning but saying they just can't 'get on with their lives' really doesn't.
@xTwilightWolvesx trust me if you were really aspergers you wouldnt care about freinds you'd care about whatever obsession you have. 'even though i dont look like it' - what i dont know what you look like. labelling people like this is simply disgusting anyway. and when they state everybody needs freinds thats just not absolutely true. for someone with high functioning austism i'd have thought you'd pay more attention to using the right 'you're'. you cleardont have aspergers thats my diagnosis.
@maxgunn555 you dunno jack shit then mate. Have you even met one? and if you have met one then then you just met ONE. Every person, their experiences, everything that makes them; them is different then the person standing next to them. You can't paint them all with one brush. Its a fallacy.

I agree. I have high fuctioning autism. I just wish I had 1 real friend. I try very hard to make friends but it never works out. Kids misunderstand why I act the way I do. Sometimes I can hear them laughing and talking about me as if I can't hear them. I try to hide my hurt and pain. If I tell someone I have autism they say things like you don't look retarded. I say I am not retarded I have autism. After that they avoid or ignore me :'(
Dont worry! I wouldn't go around boasting you had autism, theres no need to tell people, but don't be ashamed of it either ^^ Just try and make friends, and be yourself, and dont worry about what other kids say, they'll grow up and regret they were so mean. :) Im sure your a lovely person and you should have lots of friends.
@Saence Boasting about having Autism OO. To me it is nothing to boast about. I avoid telling people. Most of kids at school avoid me when they find out I have autism. I don't think the kids who live around here regret how they treat other kids cuz ther parents act and think the same way. I plan to move down south where they people are more friendly when I get out of college. I have had enough of these cold heart people here.
@Memories2Dreams From what I remember of being in school, kids never avoided me just from being told I was Autistic, but more from the types of manifestations it can have. In college you have a larger pallet of people to work with... so if one group casts you out in some fashion, there are always other groups of people to try your charms out on.
@berkev8795 what the heck are you talking about. I have met people from there LA and NY. They don't seem friendly or accepting. I go on vacation to Texas every summer and they are very nice friendly people down there.
@Memories2Dreams hun its not boasting. People need to understand autism, people need to understand diabetes, people need to understand deaf culture, people need to understand everything that makes their neighbor different.
When we understand more we are less likely to make stupid mistakes like punching a woman with a service dog and two autistic children, or allowing teenage bullies to punch a boy with autism, We will understand the girl with torrets and she will have friends.
@jacksparrowismydaddy You know nothing about her or her life. She isn't boasting. People with autism are not proud of it. She is hurting over how kids have treated her for years. She is crying out for help and understanding. I don't get how you get what she said as boasting. Who would boast about being ignored and called names. Having no friends being treated like she is stupid. Your closed minded and just saying crap not caring what you say can hurt someone like her >_<
@Memories2Dreams I found the post mate, you were the one who said she was boasting, not me. you said that you were afraid that people would know because people would treat you differently. and that's okay. We all have those fears about different things.
I thought she was brave to come out. I think people should come out and the more who understand, the better things will be. ok? no hard feelings?
@Memories2Dreams I try not to worry about it, and one of the first things I will mention to a person I've just met is that I have Asperger's. Sure, it does scare a few people away because they don't want anything to do with a teen girl with autism, but I think that's a good thing because I don't want to be friends with a shallow person who can't handle someone who isn't exactly like them. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to tell people, but personally I'm proud of my uniqueness :)
@Anime2NIght They say your BOASTING. WTH is wrong with them. She is crying out in pain. Can't you all see how much she is hurting. Being treated so cruel by kids cuz your different. You can't help you are the way you are. She doesn't want to be this WAY. WALK A DAY IN HER SHOES then you will understand her pain. I too have autism. I am not Boasting either. We just want to be Normal like others. You all just say stuff not caring how much you hurt her. Think before you talk. >_<
@Memories2Dreams Those kids at school are closed minded. They are missing out on knowing a wonderful girl. I understand and I would love to be your friend :)
@violinist881 A lot of Neurotypical people want to connect with those with Autism, but the problem people are the bullies/controlling people who prey on others fears. The US High School Jock culture for example is a manifestation of dysfunctional individuals. Bullies like all controlling people need to use fear because they are the ones that fear others most. We need to isolate the bullies, then antisocial "cultures" will weaken and perhaps disappear.
I have asperges, I have some friends, but I don't think they like me that much. I hate social situations I get really nervous about talking to people.

Words seemed pretty poorly chosen in this video.
Go ahead, why don't you say the words "different" and "disability" a few more times.
Talk about a one sided.
People with Asperger's are not socially disabled, we often excel at finding the words others can't.
That we don't communicate through striking poses and precision eye ball placement, doesn't make us backward.
