Ignore my IGNORE message-I just discovered one good feature of this-if you hit the dislike button in error it is then cancelled out if you then hit the like button (I think only if you do that before you move off the page-it worked for me). I repeat, a great one hit wonder. There are now no dislikes showing so any in the future are not from me and hopefully will never show up.
Love this song-should have been an even bigger hit. I hope we will see a photo of Alice posted one day. Is she still with us? Bought this 45 when it came out in 63 and still play it-kind of has a mesmerizing sound to it. Contrary to what mezskr4 posted a year ago, this is by far the more well known version (even in southern Ontario Canada where I grew up) and as rickrock51 says, this is the version that charted, not the inferior Swans version.
I'm hearing this great record here for the first time and absolutely love it! As an 11-year old in '63, my memory of hits like "Foolish Little Girl", "Be My Baby " , "It's My Party", etc. is as clear as if it were yesterday, but somehow this must have had limited if any air play at all in NYC. I'd be sure to have remembered it!
I agree with you all who thought it should have been a hit.
Thanks a lot for the opportunity to hear it here - super!
I don't know where you got all those great girl-group records, but I'm very greatful that you would share them with us, or we never got to hear many of them at all!
Sorry for the late relply.I have been collecting records for many many years, specialing in Girl Groups.I like unusual and out of the ordinary.Thank you for you much appricated comment.Catch you later...
On the Billboard hot 100 charts, the Alice Wonder Land version peaked at #62. The Swans' version NEVER hit the Top 100. Therefore, Alice's version is the better known version. Best, Rick Rock Roeder
Yes I have the Swans Version, and they do sound alike. The Swans covered it as this one came out first, both in the same year.Alice Wonder Land also recorded under the name Marie Antoinette.
WOW. Beautiful song, I like it. Thanks

Great song, and indeed the better version compared to the Swans'. Love the back-up vocals, reminds me of early Marvelettes. Thanks for posting!

Yeah, this was high school for me too. In fact, it's the only version I remember, have to check out the Swans next., now I'm curious.

They both sound almost the same, and at times it's hard to tell the difference. The Swans version is more well known.

In Detroit, the Alice Wonder Land was the version that got play.
Yours truly, Rick Rock Roeder

That's good to know.I think I will post the flip side even though it's not well known just so I may include a picture of Alice .
