At the same time, you're supposed to feel like you're waiting for something to happen. "We're slipping just beyond reach". The whole song focuses on waiting for that climax that never comes.And if you really listen, you'll find that the whole amateur feeling lasts only when first hearing the song.

Hey! It's on itunes, it's been out for awhile. The name of the album is "Android Parlour Tricks". It's a really deep album. I actually found out they have a remix album out too on itunes and there are two remixes of "the distance" that are pretty cool.
