windsurfing is actually one of the most cardio demanding sports period. the person who was named the 'most in shape athlete' in the colorado olympic training camp, out of all the athletes, was scott steele, 1984 olympic gold medalist.
@sailing314 the cardio element is only major in sub planing conditions when constant sail pumping is employed. An olympian on 1984 windsurfing gear would have sherpa sized lungs and a lean body. In planing conditions on modern planing equipment pumping is irrelevant and the need for cardio decreases while the rewards of strength (and body height and mass) increase.
Really, if it doesn't involve cardio or sheer strengh, gender in competitions shouldn't really matter. Sailings alot like auto racing; interfacing with a machine.
Yeah, she rocks. Allison Shreeve beats ALL of the professional men in the sport so often in Australia, that they should just take up knitting. She's the definitive man-beater, yet a really lovely girl.
I should be famous for saying this I've said it so much, but here goes: "If all women were like Allison Shreeve, feminism wouldn't have been invented".
@wildblue2 I beg to differ. High wind slalom it almost anaerobic.
