So if you judge a song only by the quality of the composition or the performers, everything other than clasical is less than good. @angrycowtipper hey, i love floor too, and she looks hot as hell . was not trying to bash on her but telling you that if you ONLY consider technique there are a lot of better singers than she is. Judging music by technique is a error for me, music must be felt and his beauty lies in the ear of the beholder. In this genre, i take her over Tarja and Simon in a hearthbeat. But then again i cant say Xandria sucks. I have Af, xandria, oasis and Vivaldi in my playlist and they all work for me. Cheers

I love softer songs like these, every bit as much as I do harder faster songs like Nightwish's Slaying The Dreamer. Point being that it's not a matter of me being without any logical control to decide what it is that I do and do not like when it comes to music. I choose the foundations of music I respect most, and those things help me subconsciously or even on an emotional level determine what makes music good to me. But it all has it's roots in my logic and value judgments.

Symphonic Metal is a hybrid genre I'm still exploring, but I love it, ever since I first heard Nemo, by Nightwish almost 2 years ago. However, as a teen in the 90's I grew up loving thrash metal bands like Metallica, and then grunge bands like Nirvana. Rock in general seemed to die out towards the end of the 90's, and I went years looking for good rock until I found these European SM bands. In the meantime I learned to love Jazz, Swing, & Classical.

Symphonic Metal is the perfect blend for me.

I like real music, where instrumentation is more important than making up words I couldn't give a shit about, to sing along with. I like all music, with any type of instrumentation. While R&B & Country annoy me, I still respect those genres AS MUSIC and the artists as musicians. Rap lacks melody and harmony, which disqualifies it as music, but it's still art, and I respect rappers as artists. Pop stars, are publicity whores that have singing talent, but don't give a shit about CREATING music.

"Pop" changes depending on the times technically speaking. Ozzy, & Nirvana technically were pop. You get talking with a certain group of music lovers and they'll play word games with you all day long.

Pop, as I see it is comprised of people more concerned with image and singing than music as a whole. People like Micheal Jackson, Madonna, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, & Beiber and groups like New Kids on The Block, Backdoor Boys, Hanson, and anything from American Idol.

If you logically believe that grunts and screams make music better than you're going to be more inclined to like death metal than opera. If you logically decide that you hate orchestral music, and that rock is badass, then you're going to be even more inclined to like death metal. The decisions may be subconscious at times, but they're all logical in origin.
