  • Who sings the raag in the beginning? Is that Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan or someone else?

  • one of the song of all time

  • Comment removed

  • MAGICAL

  • Simply superb of all times. It's a masterpiece!!!!!

  • the beginning gives me chills. though she is not that great in kathak, it was so good for bollywood kathak.

  • @arileinkalra why dont you think she is great? I think she is amazing, her foot work is on point! Many actresses and still they aspire to be like her, Madhuri dixit started actin because she was influenced from this women... the pain this women went through to shoot this movie is unreal, she had a hole in the heart and still carried on..... amazing

  • @nj18s i'm not arguing her talent, which i believe is spot on, i'm saying her skills in kathak. i am classically trained in kathak from a young age, and so is madhuri. madhuri is better in technique, but i believe madhubala was one of the most talented people of that time and will continue to inspire the stars of today. so please, don't take what i said in a negative manner. she was not classically trained and gave her own view of kathak in this movie, which was legendary and i respect highly.

  • touched mah heart...awasam song

    !!!! thumbs up!!!!

  • Really beautiful song and legendary

    Thanks

  • very nice song

  • Fab song of all the legend

  • good songs..

  • Now THIS is India!

  • Although produced almost 20 years before I was even born, this remains my all time FAVOURITE bollywood song & dance number. What heart felt lyrics, what mannerisms by Madubala, what incredibly beautiful costumes and jewellry, and background sets. Just beautiful!!! Classic bollywood forever.

  • lovely music, set work, actors, singer and well shot for the time..

  • the lyrics bring tears....amazing song...

  • madhubala and this song are equally beautiful

  • Damn!! She carries humility and attitude at the same time

  • niccccccccccc song

  • OMG I love this film and I loooove this song... Just beautiful and what a dancer xx

  • Just superb.. i am smittened and mesmerized by Madhubala. No one can take your place in Indian cinema. Extremely beautiful and expressive person.

  • they have stopped producing great music because lata the magnificient has retired....

  • Simply masterpiece! Full of art! Divine dance,music,lyric...Kudos to the whomever the art director it was. Salam from Turkey!

  • this is my favourits film and this is a beautiful song ,i like it very very very very nice song by madobala

  • the re make of this song is so rubbish, this is the best, no one can beat the original. and no one can take madhuballa's place

  • Great Song Fore ever!

  • What i feel is that if ur love is true dont let it go, one should try their best to protect it.

  • her sister said in an interview tht whn she died at tht very moment tears were running down her eyes

  • parda nahin jab koi khuda se...bandon se parda karna ka! what poetry! amazing!

  • This is a real classic!!! respect

  • i never understood why akbar got mad in this song?? Could someone explain??

  • @MsRen211 anarkali was the courtesan at Akbar's palace and Salim was his son and those days courtesans were not considered good, they did not have the right to marry or love, they were just for entertainment of the rich and aristocratic, a man cannot make a courtesan his wife. And in this song she is saying if you love someone, there is no need to fear, love is above every rules which society has made.

  • @MsRen211 because Madhubala figuratively said "f*** off" to him in the song

  • This is the ONLY Bollywood movie/song that made me cry.

  • All the three persons sitting on a throne (ie. Pritviraj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Durga Khote) have won the Dadasaheb Phalke award.

  • Why Bollywood/Indian music industry has shunned producing such enchanting & plummy music? Is it a sign of their degeneracy into perverted culture thrust from the West? Do not interpret this as a provincial outlook. Recall the rich and time-honored tradition that perked up the generations with transcendent appeal.

  • I like this song very very much!!!

  • i always cry when i listen this song why

  • @yazdik Because it's a beautiful song that embraces the heart :)

  • OMG Ancient India is the most beautiful culture of all! The Architecture looks like it's growing from the ground like a Flower .....So Natural looking!

  • Does anyone know where an hd copy of this movie can be found?

  • I must watch this everyday. Madhubala danced divinely in this video. This song reminds me so much of my childhood hearing it playing on my grandparents radio in the early 90's. The song is beautiful and the dance is gorgeous. Thank you so much for uploading this :)

  • @Enigma1990ad I am sorry but Madhubala didn't know how to dance at all. Her hand movements were like that of a klutz. Pt. Maharaj had to get one of his male disciples to dress up in that costume during the initial kathak sequence.

  • @ritu1483 can you dance better

  • a great legend in indian flim history...took over 9 years 2 complete....started in 1949 to 1959...... great flim....

  • this song moved me so much in 2012 [im 26].. I can only imagine it must have been during the 60's

  • is it in raagam darbari kannada?

  • people who disliked this video are jealous, culture barbarics and have no feeling for art and love and beauty

  • if anything is truelly evergreen then, THIS IS IT, im speechless, actaully whatever we say will never be enough, the way she dance'd is commnedable, but those expressions!!! my god, its a killer, wrenching my heart out, no wonder they call her the true beauty queen of India and goddess of acting, plz someone tell todays actresses2watch n learn, what real acting is? its all about shitt acting, shitt movies, lots of money, so promote the movie2fool ppl in2cinemas2watch an amateurs load of shitt

  • @TheKazMiah5183 Please choose your words politely.

  • legendary

  • This movie and song will never die!! Such a timeless classic!

  • This video is the best!! I wnt more!!

  • Anarkali was Salim's sister. Akbar fucked Anarkali's mother so he knew that Anarkali was his daughter that's why he opposed Salim-Anarkali relationship. This was basically an incestuous relationship. So this song when viewed in that light becomes quite a joke.

  • @klt21005 Your theory is flawed. If Akba knew that she was his daughter, she would have taken raised as a princess even if minor. Akbar did not have to hide her. Akbar did not have to sneak to f**k her mother either. He was a MOGUL EMPEROR. Do you know what that meant in those days?

  • Beautiful Bollywood is making such rubbish movies nowadays!

  • congratulation :) it's the best one indian video that i ever seen :D really cool <3 love it!

  • Awesome

  • real beauty&naturality no comparision

  • madhubala looks like kate winslet

  • wow lov it best song

  • wow love u madhubala g may allah givre u jannat n keep u with ur love one in jannat ameen <3

  • WANNA LISTEN ANOTHER EMERGING TALENT IN INDIAN MUSIC

    GO TO THE LINK

O MERE SONA RE BY SUNATRI1

  • @ hashqan, we have same question, old is truly gold, these all old songs are so beautiful because they have nice words, good language, and upon everything, pure, classical instruments. Music has changed to hell, and only we are responsible for it.

  • @MultiZee18 i agree with you :( ... that thought make me so sad ...all that technology and electric things are destroying our world :( ... but world can't be changed (technology exist for good things but i think we use it in a wierd way ).right now no one you can find a true star... or a important person as Loenardo da Vinci , Kant, Ghandi etc.

  • fuckin movie that

  • @curtainsfallenlove inappropriate language -.-"

  • Wow. I am not an Indian.

Is any one can tell what has happened .

Why India is not producing similar quality music today?

  • @hashqan

They lost their identity and became westernised.

  • @Naatashax3 every culture is like that, i wish they would keep their own individual identity. it's more special and unique

  • @hashqan Son of Emperor of India loves a courtesan, objected by the Emperor. She gets a last dance, chance to save her love/life, here she declares her love, fearlessly, defiant, ( picks Prince's dagger and hands over to the Emperor to go ahead), Her line if we don't hide facts, & don't fear God, why hide them/ fear from mere mortals, I hope you get the flavor of the proceedings. Lyrics, music, singing, acting at its BEST.

  • @hashqan Western influence and total lac of hard work and preservation of classic music. Its tough to learn Indian classical and people in this day and age don't have time or money to pursue something which is history. It is a shame. We just have to embrace change and move on look back on these songs and just hope we realize the importance of classics.

  • @hashqan What to say? So many factors. It's not for nothing that this Age was sylted the Golden Age of Bollywood.

  • @hashqan Actually we do, but music like this is very contextual and suits only a certain kind of movie scene (i.e. period piece). But the eastern classical roots are very much visible in select works of A.R.Rahman (Jodha Akbar), Shankar Ehsaan Loy (Luck by Chance). So its not fair to write us off just like that.

  • @hashqan RIGHT?!?!!?!? Bollywood has lost what musical quality makes it unique.

  • any translation?

  • This is the ultimate love song, the ULTIMATE!

  • can u tell me the name of the acteress i forgot her name waooo she is flawleess she is fav after hema..as my gran pa was her fan lol seriously:)i watched this video when i was 10 jus 2 yrs b4 i finally got it thanks shmarooent..:)

  • @Hillion300 Madhubala

  • @arjunsapphire hey thank u sooooo much :)

  • @Hillion300 welcome :))))

  • @Hillion300 madhubala

  • The king dressed in Gold gown is Kareena Kapoors great grandfather, Raj Kapoors father. Which is Kareena Kapoors great grandfather

  • wt a colors...

  • flawless

  • Such a good movie. Everything is perfect about it.

  • y the heck was he soo freaking stiff in this movie ...like it just kills the whole movie mehnnn...am nigerian so i dont really know much about him..i just became a Madhubala fan..i read about their love song n tragic end but still tho..he should have fight for their love ...Just sayin

  • @niggirl she's playin an indian woman caracter,a great woman , she didn't want to emerge the country in a war because of her or being the cause of trouble between a father and a son, she didn't want that her love and presence spread hateness around her, so she just decide to disapear. this is an indian story, this is what's happenning in real life because it's not a idealistic shakepear story where two lovers die together, this is just a realistic movie showing the sacrifice of a woman as usual

  • just awesome song and she is so graceful, pretty & a fabulous dancer

  • This was in 1960.. Its artistically and production value wise at par with the best in the world... what happened then....

  • Nyc music!!!

  • Amazing ...

    No words..

    Nice wording for it

  • I like this song from childhood.now a day after 40 year still like it ....

  • An all time great song. Madhubala at her all time best expressions. Everyone who made this song also made their names eternal

  • great.......

  • Singing begins at 2:08

  • Madhubala is very beautiful. Her performance beginning of this song is amazing. Bollywood should produce more movies that show Indian cultures, and traditions. New Bollywood movies are like Hollywood movies...

  • madhubala....hemamalini..rekha..sridevi...madhuri...aishwarya rai..........

    PEARLS OF INDIA........

  • @william54008 take ash out of the most pretigious n respected ppl in indian cinema

  • @msvinmon why I need to ash out of this list?? SHE DESERVES TO BE HEREMORE THAN ANYONE ELSE...

  • @william54008 So true! Let her with them...All true legends

  • @william54008 sorry but this is jus my opinion she doent stand a chance being in the same place as the names of other actors mentioned.... she may be a top actor todae but i feel she fails to evoke the emotions in the audience's as the way the above beautiful actoresses does !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @william54008 yup you r right :)for me hema the best n madhubala tooo n rest of all too love them

  • @william54008

Madhubala was a natural beauty with no equals. Its unjust to compare her with heroines that underwent surgeries and bleaches to enhance their beauty. Don't believe me check the earlier days pictures of hema, aish and rekha. And even after that none of them including madhuri and sridevi come close to madhubala.

  • was he still in love with her when he was acting this movie??? mmmm i wonder..becos i can tell she was still in love with him...

  • He takes one look and Behar slinks back behind the throne, love it

  • so beautiful this song always makes me cry

  • what is the name of this actress?

  • @g6ka01 Madhubala

  • @niggirl

    Thank you

  • No one is as beautiful as Madhubala..m watching this every day

  • Plus Love you Madhubala Ji may allah grant u in Heaven im always praying for u in my salah .......................

  • Why does she have to fight for their love? Why can't he?

  • @tothestars101 he did! He lead a frikken rebel army against his father (THE Moghul) to fight for HIS right to love whomever he desires!

  • @tothestars101 he also fight for his love at the end

  • @tothestars101

He fought for their love all through, you seem to have clearly missed it.

  • @tothestars101 because he's a wuss

  • @tothestars101

Because Jalauddin Mohammed Akbar >>>>> Jehangir a.k.a. Salim. In today's world, we would say Salim would "shit in his pants" if he was to confess his love for Anarkali in front of his father :P

  • @spptube Watching the movie I got the feeling that Anarkali went through a lot for the sake of her love for Salim. She boldly, yet artfully, mocked Akbar in this song. She was imprisoned, she caused Salim to fulfill his promise, and eventually she was buried alive (and dug out).

He on the other hand just rued in his depression like an emo.

  • @unijade ok I take back what I said. I'd forgotten about the battle with Akbar! =$

  • @unijade

Yes Anarkali was a brave girl who had to fight for her love and eventually sacrifice it for the sake of his lover's future.

Whatever happens..happens for a good reason. If Akbar would have allowed Saleem to marry Anarkali then probably Shah Jahan would not have born and the greatest monument of love Taj Mahal would be missing from India today. Its amazing how history shows us how things unfolds while leading towards some fantastic facts.

Time is the greatest and has seen it all.

  • @spptube Dear spptube, Taj wasn't built by Shahjahn. it is misinterpreted. It is Tejo Mahalaya. A shiv temple. There are numerous books written by western authors & archeologists. But,to avoid communal violence.it is still being accepted as built by ShahJahan. Thanks

  • @suprith01

I already know that fact my friend. Like you said to avoid communal violence, lets not touch this topic here. Enjoy the song once again. Have a good day.

  • @tothestars101 because she is a woman ... Ps an indian woman

  • @tothestars101 Because it requires strength and bravery to stand up for what you believe in and love. The women were suppressed but through art, a very strong and a very upfront challenge was delt- like a battle so it was the emperor's choice how to fight the war.

  • @tothestars101 indian men :P

  • @tothestars101 Politics

  • @tothestars101 very intelligent question. praises to you.

  • @tothestars101 because he probably suspected that Anarkali is his sister.

  • @klt21005 Your theory is flawed.

  • @tothestars101 Because she was a commener and he was a prince.Lots of ego, cultural and status questions were involved.

  • i don't understand why there are even dislikers?

  • Lata Mangeshkar, Asha bhosle and Noor jehan are the real kohinoor's of the South Asian sub-continent.

  • Lata Mangeshkar is Godess Saraswati in Human form. The best in the world. I am blessed to have been born in the era of Lataji. I am very fortunatley to have met her twice too. Thank you God for all you have given me. How wonderfully she catches the very high and very low notes!!

  • indians are the greatest, but poor politicians like qaed azaam criminal and few other english dogs who partitioned india for their english owners. English criminals donated half of afghanistan to those criminals too who made today's pakistan lol soon we will partition pakistan and get our land back lol

  • @AHMADUK you really think that the beautiful land of Pakistan belongs to India dnt think so bro keep dreaming it is true a partition will happen but Pakistan will take all India. And regarding terreroism dnt be so confident over calling Pakistan criminala where you guys are friends of Israel and are making alot of plots... Plus all the greatest star in bolly wood starting from 1900 were all born in the territories of pakistan so dnt be over confident.........................................

  • @AliHaqhain East and West Germany got United after decades the same will happen to your beloved pakistan. The punjib part where you guys are from will join the India and the pushtoon part will be part of Great Afghanistan, there will be an end to terrorism permanently in the region. It is a long list first the serian gov then the iranian gov and finally your safe heaven will be dealt with.

  • This song has an unusual history :it cost Rs.1 million at a time when a film would be made for less than a million; it was written and re-written 105 times by the lyricist, Shakeel Badayuni, before the music director, Naushad, could approve of it; it was shot in the renowned Palace of Mirrors and in those days of sound recording, editing and mixing, as there was no way to provide the reverberation of sound, Naushad had Lata Mangeshkar sing the song in a studio bathroom

  • so much has been already said about the greatness of this azeem shahkar called Mughl-e-Azam and this song...all i can say ----SAB GAANO KA BAAP!!

  • brilliant creativity for film history by K-ASIF SAHAB.no any movie maked in hollywood ,bollywood and all film industry like this. my chalange.

[jo garmaish dil me is film ko dekh ker hoti he wo na to kisi hollywood, bollywood ya kisi aur industry kisi film dekh ker nhi hoti. ye film ,film history me kisi ajoobey se kam nhi] jab dekho jitni bar dekho esa lagta he hum khud AKBAR-E-AZAM ke darbar me khadhe hein behterin film, filmon ki tareekh me amar hogai he wah maza agya....

  • Bela Makhija could have done this role..but i think Madhu executed it perfectly!

  • Oh Goodness, that's brave.

  • good old song ,evergreen melody

  • NyC Quility + Nyc Song

  • This super-duper BLOCKBUSTER movie originally was 15 percent color released in 1960,This movie netted 12 million dollars of those times. This movie was made in color by special software technology and again released in 2004 with limited # printtjhe same wk as "VEER ZAARA". Mughal-E-Azam proved to be a goldmine and again netted 31.25 crore Rupees and again was JUBILEE HIT for the third time in MUMBAI.There is no match for this movie. This song was in color originally.Dilip, Madhu ,PK were superb

  • very gorgeous heroin

  • akbaar nay paad roki hui hai

  • If you were going to have the clip posted by Sunnydhinsa removed on copyright grounds, you could at least have posted one which was as good; the letterboxing framework on this clip makes the image smaller than necessary, and the footage does not appear to be high quality.

  • At the end Prithviraj Kapoor acts like, he badly wants to go to toilet.

  • top calss picturisation on that peiod where technology was not so invented....

  • aaj kahenge dil ka fasana jaan bhe lele chahe jamana. I has first seen this movie when I was 8, now 28 I can relate to all songs in this amazing movie. fucking cast system is denoted by akbar in my love story.

  • soo beautiful.. i cried after i watched this moviee

  • parda nahi jab koi khuda se....

parda nahi jab koi khuda se.. bandon se parda karna kya .... jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya

jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya!!!

    wattta a song !!

  • @annisweet01 :good taste !

  • @mrigankvatsal thnx...

  • khubsoorat adakara

  • my favr8 actress, idol, i adore her alott.. natural looks, no surgeries, botox nthg ...jus natural ...

  • if you look at her hand movements in dance, they are not making a wave typical in feminine dance. the boldness in the character is presented in dance with partial immertured, masculine elements making the dance awkward, worse.

    lyrics are as usual speecless.

  • her facial expressions are good but not dance.

she does not seem to know classical dances.

    song is awesome.

  • Aaj kahenge dil kaa fasaanaa, today I will tell the story of my heart

Jaan bhee le le chaahe zamaanaa, even if the world takes my life

Aaj kahenge dil kaa fasaanaa, today I will tell the story of my heart

Jaan bhee le le chaahe zamaanaa, even if the world takes my life

Maut wahii jo duniyaan dekhe, death is the one that the world sees

Maut wahii jo duniyaan dekhe, death is the one that the world sees

Ghut ghut kar yu marnaa kyaa, what is the point in dying by suffocating alone

  • Pyaar kiyaa to darnaa kyaa, when loved then why be afraid

Jab pyaar kiyaa to darnaa kyaa, when loved then why be afraid

Pyaar kiyaa koi chori nahin ki,have loved, not stolen any thing

    Pyaar kiyaa,have loved

Pyaar kiyaa koi chori nahin ki,have loved, not stolen any thing

Chhuup chhuup aahe bharnaa kyaa, why hide and sigh

Jab pyaar kiyaa to darnaa kyaa, when loved then why be afraid

Pyaar kiyaa to darnaa kyaa, when loved then why be afraid

  • I looove this

but can anybody explain to me why the old man seems to be angry with what she is saying? maybe not that necessarily, but he seems to be giving him evils. lol

  • sure,i endorse it

  • theres always has to be haters.....this song is brilliant
