thats what happened to my cat, she delievered 4 kittens one day, all we're prematured and hairless. All stillborns. The next day she delievered another one also prematured and stillborn, but a little bigger. :[

@xMandalorex the mother kind of understands that the baby is "defective" (dead) so she eats it bcz the dead kitten corpse will only bring disease and mark the spot for predators to find them.. (the cat can't realise that there in safe house etc). Is all about protecting her self and her babies from predators.

Sometimes they eat it, sometimes they don't. This mother cat has been known to completely reject dead kittens, as well as eating some of them. I don't know what might make a mother eat one and reject another. Perhaps it has to do with her current state of nutritive health, or her sense of security, or both.

The smell of death and an easy meal could put the rest her litter in danger! Yep, Siamese kittens are born pure white! Their coloring comes in later. You can start to see it as gray ears when they are about two weeks old.

I'm not sure for cats, but for some animals, like rats, they eat the dead baby, as a way to create energy for itself, to make sure it has enough energy to take care and milk to feed the rest of the other live kittens. For example, I saw on Nat Geo, a wild mouse/rat had too many babies, and to conserve the milk and to create energy needed to take care and feed its babies, the mother rat ate a couple of her babies. sad, but nature doing its thing.

For some reason it died when it was still inside the mother. I estimate it died a week or two earlier. I am not sure why; perhaps she didn't have enough nutrients to support all of them, or perhaps there was some sort of structural damage.

The kitten was already dead. Stopping the camera wouldn't have brought the kitten back to life, and since there is nothing wrong with the mother eating a dead baby, there was no reason to stop her from doing that either.
