That is really weird ppl have to go to a priest in order to be forgiven of your sins :/ and how they did it for that matter. Why would you talk to somebody through a box? :/ I'd so rather pray to my heavenly father in my room asking him to forgive my sins and not do them anymore :P Step 1: sit down Step 2: pray Step 3: ask for forgiveness Step 4:don't make anymore sins for yourself :/
@geth33 Going to a priest, presents the confessor with the opportunity to actually talk to someone else and receive prayer and spiritual direction from a person who has dedicated their lives to leading others closer to Christ. It's not about telling someone else all the bad things you've done, but rather, getting guidance that might help you to not do it again and having the human contact that we need to know God, and feel forgiven.
Jesus also didn't say that we CAN'T do other things that deepen our relationship with God. The rosary is a prayer, it brings us closer to God, but it's not required to be Catholic, it's simply a prayer that involves both our body & mind & can be done privately or in a community, like the family. God is our father, our family, why limite ways to spend time with Him? Why not make our every breath a prayer?
21 BUT IF THE WICKED WILL TURN FROM ALL HIS SINS that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, HE SHALL SURELY LIVE, HE SHALL NOT DIE.
22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done HE SHALL LIVE.
23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
7 He that is WITHOUT SIN among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one,... and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her,
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
God hears the sins of the person in the confessional because it is God only who can judge the heart and not the man behind the screen. All sin is against God and not men so it is only God who can forgive Sin. Men cannot see a persons heart to forgive him of his sin nor does he have the authority to forgive sin so it is the Priest who stands in judgement of God for this foolery. There is also no scriptural penance or acts of reconciliation to forgive sin except the Blood of Christ.
I can't believe so many are brainwashed to think this is the way to forgiveness, when CLEARLY; Jesus is the one you go to confess your sins, not some dumb priest. I pray for all of you, so that one day, you can meet the real Jesus <3
"He said therefore to them again: Peace be to you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. When he had said this, he breathed on them; and he said to them: Receive the Holy Ghost. Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them: and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained"
@XxMetalMartyrxX Interesting article, but it falls short of explaining the verses away. It doesn't say what is meant by, "whose sins you shall retain, they are retained". Jesus says that the apostles can choose to forgive or to retain - this means that it cannot be a choice that has already been made for all of time. The interpretation of the Catholic Church on this verse has been constant for 2000 years, since the beginning of Christianity.
@cburton103 I've never seen anywhere in the Bible where the apostles were given the authority by Jesus Christ that they can chose whether sins are forgiven or not. Only Jesus can forgive through HIS sacrifice. If you are truly open for conversation, I can show you many articles showing the corruption in the Catholic church. My whole family were all Catholic once. I've got experience in this area. Jesus is the only way! Praying in love! <3
@Liebhabaer1974 Neither of those verses has nothing to do with whether or not we should go to Confession. The first one says we shouldn't break God's commandments, nor teach anyone else to do so. Jesus commanded the apostles to forgive sins in John 20:21-23. Paul also speaks about the "ministry of reconciliation".
The second verse talks about forgiving people for sinning against you in some way. This is just human forgiveness. Only God can forgive the effects of the sin.
The sermon on the mount, when Jesus spoke to all people not just to his apostles, says, that forgiveness each other, not to judge by law "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth", is the way of sin forgiveness.
If I forgive you then god will forgive me, according to the parable in Luke 16:1-8 or John 8:1-12.
John 8:1-12
11 Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
12 I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
@Liebhabaer1974 Also, we do call our priests "father" in the same sense that this verse describes. This verse is talking about calling people "father" who you follow in a new set of beliefs. Jesus discussed this with the Jews of the day because Judaism was broken up into many "houses" as they called them. Also, you likely call people you leader/instructor/teacher/master, but Mt 23:10 condemns this. So why do you interpret one verse so out of context but not the other? God bless.
21 BUT IF THE WICKED WILL TURN FROM ALL HIS SINS that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, HE SHALL SURELY LIVE, HE SHALL NOT DIE.
GENESIS 4:
15 Whosoever slayeth Cain (the murderer), vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, LEST ANY FINDING HIM SHOULD KILL HIM.
= Matthew 7: 1-16
1 JUDGE NOT, THAT YE BE NOT JUDGED.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged...
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
@Liebhabaer1974 Jesus is the straight gate and the narrow path that leads to heaven. Jesus founded the Catholic Church on Peter (Mt 16:18) and told the world that the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Therefore, if we follow Christ in the Church, you can be assured that you will be saved from an eternity separated from God.
Jesus called himself "the Way". We must follow him above all things - even if that means entering the Catholic Church. God bless.
@Liebhabaer1974 Praying the rosary is not a religion. "He taught cosmic laws, because everything what happen on earth depends from our emotions and thoughts." This is logical and metaphysical nonsense! By this logic, all those who died in the Holocaust, every small child who is raped and killed, every person in a cancer ward, and all the victims of the east African famine brought these things on themselves because of their thoughts and emotions. Only a moron would believe this crap!
@Liebhabaer1974 He didn't. The rosary didn't exist back then. It is a prayer tool developed by the Church He gave His authority to, and which the Holy Spirit guides into all truth. Where do you get this crap about "our emotions and thoughts" causing what happens on Earth?
@Liebhabaer1974 Amen! The Bible says that and I believe it. The Bible also says that Jesus gave the authority to the apostles to forgive sins, so we must believe this as well, right? We can't take one verse and forget about another verse - we must look at the entire Bible in context. For this reason, I realize the importance of forgiving my neighbor and of seeking forgiveness in the sacrament of Confession, which Jesus clearly set up in John 20:21-23. The early Christians are a witness to this.
I don't want to tell my sins to a human being. lol the Bible tells us that there is no middle man needed. Confessions are just another way the church, not just catholics, have twisted words. even if i was christian then I wouldn't be Catholic. Also through personal experiences with people, there's always that lack of feeling "saved". Say I commit a sin tonight then I died without being forgiven by a priest (lol) then i would go to Hell. my protestant friends, they believe they are saved truely.
If you go to confession to save yourself from going to hell it is for selfish reasons. If you go to confession because you're truly sorry and because you truly love Jesus Christ and want to grow closer to Him again then it's out of love and selflessness. - Protestantism=me!me!me! .. Is that what you're saying?
In the Bible Jesus says this in the Gospel of John 20:23; “If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven." ;)
@AndreasEdlef lol and catolicsm is "I'm not good enough!!!"..even though Jesus said he died for all of us and John 14:6 says "Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." I maybe be a heretic descended human but I know the difference between advise and a command lol Oh I'm sorry, we're not heretics anymore, just "seperated brethren". God probably does a facepalm when he sees so many different views for one religion. Its an idiocracy
Well I'd phrase it a bit more like 'I can get better. I want to get better and become more like Christ.' -Why only give half of what you have? Give it your all because you love Jesus, not for selfish reasons because then you're just like the pharisees. -When I as a Catholic go to confession I confess my sins to the One True God through one of his 'apostles' which is the priest (again; John 20:23). And priests are called to the priesthood by God. :) - God bless!
@AndreasEdlef which arises the statement: "why let someone listen in when clearly it isn't needed?" lol Oh honestly, I'm grateful for mass communication and countries banning together. Some fanatic catholics and protestants may actually try to go back to medevil ways of convincing. Burning stakes, etc which i say as I patch of my Rob Zombie shirt lol
Confess your sins to a pedophile, then make sure you give the wealthiest organization money each Sunday. Born and raised Catholic, and walked away from the church without a look back. And a little note to all the dolts making slams against the gays? My best friend is gay and a far better person than most catholics I know. No, seriously.
We all need to confess our sins and seek GODs forgiveness and healing in our lifes there is no perfect human being in this world whether they are gay or straight we all have to answer for our sins in the next life is it not easier to been humble yourself now and turn back to JESUS and not judge others for there sins i hope you open your heart to the the wonderful sacrament of confession GOD BLESS from a fellow catholic
@qwer8907 Really... Why do 'we' all *need* to confess our sins? You seem to be lumping ME in with your WE. I know what I have done right and I know what I have done wrong. The catholic church operates on guilt and you perpetuate that guilt. The person I was taught was christ walked around in simple robes and sandals, the parish priest here in my town wears the finest linens and is surrounded by gold chalices. The church is a hypocricy using guilt to collect massive mounts of ca$h.
@DiscipleOfLordJesus - How many times you have confessed sins to other Christians in last 12 months?
You confess your sins to God and to the church. Through the priest you confess sins to the church. Early Christians confessed sins to God directly and also through the apostles. Apostles forgave their sins by the power of Jesus. Early church fathers and today’s Catholic and Orthodox fathers (the vast majority of the world's Christians) simply maintained and continue to maintain that practice.
The Catholic Church has handled all kinds of attacks in its history. It is still defending itself today as it has for over 2000 years .I guess you just cant bringthe church down.Sorry folks.
What happens if I go in there as a Protestant Christian?
My sister, also a protestant, was once at mass and walked up to receive the Eucharist. She says that a lady yelled at her. Now I know the deal about the Eucharist, but is this along the same lines...
@b2223967 But you don't believe in the Real Prescence, so why would you want to take Communion? Because it's something you can't do and of course you want to do it? Basic human nature...No offense, I
seriously want to know why so many Protestants are bothered/offended by not being able to take Communion. And, also, aside of the belief in the Real Prescence, why would you want to take Communion in a Church with which you're not in Communion? I'm just curious.
@dizzy365 I want to take communion because I am a Christian and I believe the gospel... Christ's death burial and resurrection. Why wouldn't I want to participate in a sign of my faith? I like things simple. One faith, one baptism... (Eph. 4) Humans split the church, it was not Christ's intent. I feel as though I am in communion with the Catholic church and ALL churches that recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. (Nicene and Apostle's Creed)
@b2223967 As far as I understand it, confession is normally reserved for Catholics unless you're gravely ill/on your deathbed. You can talk to a priest about any problems you may be having and he can give you counsel, but not absolution. (You seem interested in confession and the Eucharist. Any thoughts about joining the Church?)
@wikitiki99 I've considered RCIA , even more so after my experiences with Covenant House (a Catholic org helping homeless youth). I've been hesitant because I come from an African American Baptist/Pentcostal background so that would be quite the cultural (style of worship) shift. But there is much I admire and can appreciate about the RC Church!
napakaming step naman nyan...isa lang ang pinaka madali...
(1john 1:9) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
... tapos.. isang hingi mo lang tawad sa DIYOS, He is faithful and just.. He will forgive us... bakit kaylangan mong sabihin ung kasalanan mo sa tao lang.. hindi naman sya ung nagbibigay ng kapatawaran... only JESUS alone...

Alam kong nagbabasa ka ng Bible, pero mas cgurado ko alam na ung pagbabasa o ng Bible ay Out of Context lagi. You are wholeheartedly invited to that context: which is the TRUE CHURCH, existed from the Time of Jesus and the Apostles, always guided by the Holy Spirit, with all the Successors of St, Peter.
I know the possibility that you will reject it, but study the History of the Church and the Lives of Saints...ok.
@ClanLcps Faults are NOT the same as sins!! Faults are errors or mistakes, imperfections; while sins are things like ohh, say, murder, theft, homosexuality, using God's name in vain, fornication, idolatry, drunkenness, effeminate, and on and on!
Try preaching your personal beliefs without using your own personal verses that support your desires of truth.
"For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel" (1 Cor. 4:14–15)
You would then condemn Paul as well and anyone else who disagrees with you?
He is so merciful and He loves us so much. WE are not perfect, but His Church is beautiful and full of traditions from centuries ago. WE follow HIS teachings and love the Apostles. I'll pray for you. Read: "Therefore, you are without excuse, every one of you who passes judgment. For by the standard by which you judge another you condemn yourself, since you, the judge, do the very same things. We know that the judgment of God on those who do such things is true." Roman 2: 1-2
this video is a lie. i will not say to another sinner, "bless me father for i have sinned". there is only one Holy Father. James 5:16 is talking about going to those whom we have personnaly offended and apologize to them, now if we personnally offend a priest then go to that priest and apologize. But Jesus gives absolute forgiveness, peace and joy. Matthew 23:9 says "do not call anyone on earth your father, you have only one Father in heaven. Jn 20:23 says to preach forgiveness in Jesus nm
@bornagainsaint1 Re: this video is a lie. i will not say to another sinner, "bless me father for i have sinned".
Cherry picking verses to make scripture fit your desires again?
James 5:16 is talking about who? It says "Confess your faults one to another". It does not say only to those who you offend.
Lets assume it does mean those who you offend. The Body of Christ is all of the faithful. They are united with Christ. You offend them when you sin. You need to reconcile with them as well.
@bornagainsaint1 Re: Matthew 23:9 says "do not call anyone on earth your father, you have only one Father in heaven.
Cherry picking again?
What do other verses have to say about the word 'father' in scripture? Are you deliberately leaving those verses out to suit your own beliefs? In stevesilvia's video 'The Truth about Confession' you have been given multiple verses that are in opposition to your claim and yet you continue to ignore those verses.
It is one thing to say what you believe in public and it is another thing to chastize the truth and Christ himself. I thought you were simply in disagreement with the RCC but I can tell now that you are interested in getting others to believe what you believe as if you are not capable of understanding scripture incorrectly.
I will not allow you to falsly preach scripture to anyone.

Hebrews 10....."And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, WHICH CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY SINS: But this man, after He had offered ONE SACRIFICE for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till His enemies be made His footstool. For by ONE OFFERING He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Now where remission of these is, THERE IS NO MORE OFFERING FOR SIN."
ONLY THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IS THE TRUE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST, APOSTOLIC CHURCH PROVIDES ALL SACRAMENTS AND THE MOST IMPORTANT ONE - OF THE LIVING GOD - THE BREAD OF LIFE IN THE EUCHARIST!
WITH 2,000 YEARS OF TRADITION AND SACRIFICES TODAY WE KNOW WHAT THE BIBLE AND SALVATION THROUGH JESUS CHRIST IS.
MANY PROPHECIES AND VISIONARIES.
THE REAL MIRACLES, EFFECTIVE EXORCISMS, INCCORUPT BODIES OF SAINTS,
I was away from confession for 10 years or more and went back. most loving experience of my life. go face to face too because one day you'll have to go face to face with the Big Man anyway. catholics who have been away from the church, please come home you're always welcome.
Its true that men join the priesthood for access to children with brainwashed parents. Dont believe me? Ask your favorite priest how many boys he sucked off. The pope condones child molestation from gay priests.
John 20:22-23 - Simple to answer that one, here is the answer: Matthew 16:18 "Truly I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall have been bound in heaven; whatever you loose on on earth shall have been loosed in heaven." - Its when a brother sins against you forgiven him not the way Jesus our God does. Isaiah 43:10 "I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; And I will not remember your sins." We all know that's the LORD speaking.
@bill0756 Hey Bill, I go to confession every Saturday. I am usually the only person to show up. Remember that you need to confess before you eat God. Keep in contact with me and let know how your doing ... And go to Eucharisitc Adoration sometime. Love You and Peace to You :)
Stupid video, maybe its confession for robots?,the only person i will confess to is my lord and savior jesus christ, and any how all my sins are already forgiven on the cross.you fools do not be a slave to the law, for righteousness is only gained by faith in jesus not by observing the law.
@nail160 ... The best thing to do in these confusing times is to do what the early christians did. They went to confession and mass and they never ever heard of such a thing as faith alone saves.
1st century christians...2nd... 3rd century etc. It wasent until the 16th century that many interpreted the bible out of context that you come up with confusion.
@nail160 OK... ask "your Lord and Savior" to come down, have a face to face confession with you, and have Him give you the absolution. Do that and I will respect Protestantism a little of bit.. in the meantime, HAHAHA. Go eat your KJV book. That'll "save you" for sure.
Holy fathers of Catholic Church forgive my sin for I haven't learned well from you all. I fucked boys right before sermons but forgot to remove boys' pubic hair from my mouth when delivering your messages to their parents, I should have used longer sticks to beat up children for resisting the HOLY water after sodomy, and I didn't sell enough salvation spots in heaven like a true TOP Life-insurance broker.
Now,can I be next pope as I pull in the most $ & baptized most boys with my own sperms??
so, supposedly the frock in the box can be excommunicated for spilling the beans about a parishioner's sins but the pedophile priests are allowed to transfer from church to church? straight up a Christ rejecting cult
No, whats left is telling God and asking whatever, in the name of Jesus. Jesus is our high priest and we have straight access to God through Jesus. Confessing our sins one to another is mainly were we wrong someone and ask them to forgive us..first to God then the person. Christ is our attonement not priests....plus,only God knows your heart, wheither your truly repentant or you just need your religous conscience cleared.
Oh boy. Jesus die so that we have imediate access to the Father. You get on the knees of youre heart...ask God toforgive you in Jesus name....that simple..no priest...no religion...no doctrine. Jesus is our high priest, an advocate to the Father......read the bible, its not complicated folks....All the saints that have gone before us intercede for us, but we cant pray to them, only Jesus can get us in Gods throne room.....only one way to God...through Jesus.
God already knows your sins. Jesus has already died for them. What is left for you is to tell the priest your sins so he can give you reparation for them
Just telling God doesn't get it for you. He already knows them! You can't just pray because until you hear the words "I absolve you of your sins" you do not know if you were truly forgiven
You must realize that a priest must give you atonement for your sins for pardon of them. That is how God established it to be since the Old Testament

Catholic churches in my community are closing and many are finding out the truth of who Christ is, how Christ works, and how reliable are HIS promises to those baptized members of his body. "For Christ has set us free, and we will never again submit to a yoke (of human) slavery. The Church: Ever Catholic, Ever Reforming.
yes you can. You pray to God, say what u need said, ask forgivness then end it "in Jesus name. But remember, repentence also takes an action of turning away from it.......and asking God to help u overcome it. God i believe knows our heart, and forgives if we mean it and not just to cover our conscience.
Its not the priests absolution; he administers it. It is the Christ's absolution through the ministry of the Church as priests are servants and therefore extensions of the Bishop. The Bishop occupies the Apostolic Office. The Bishop is the Apostle of Christ still here to serve Christ just as Christ instructed them to do. This is why we are an Apostolic Church now 2000 years old, the Pope is the Bishop of Rome, St. Peters heir. Christ forgives us through the ministry of the Church.
@filoIII John 20:22-23 (KJV if that makes it better for you): And when he (Jesus) had said this, he breathed on them (his disciples), and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost: Whose soever sins ye remit, they are remitted unto them; and whose soever sins ye retain, they are retained."
@shark96z you have a major problem then--Lu 5:21c Who can forgive sins, but God alone?
The question to ask concerning this view is “did the disciples understand Jesus’ pronouncement in this manner?” The answer is a resounding no. At no point in the Bible is there even a hint that the disciples went around forgiving and retaining people’s sins in that sense. How you gonna deal w/ this "contradiction?"
@semisavage I think it is amazing that you could still believe this paragraph of garbage after typing it all out. At some point, wouldn't you start to realize what a bunch of bullshit it all is? Whatever. I could never take anyone that believes in this crap seriously. So start the flaming now, I won't fucking care, see previous sentence.
Matthew 9:37 "Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few." Calling all Christians.....we need to get the message of salvation through Christ alone to our catholic brothers and sisters.
@bbbfohio - King James bible was compiled by a Catholic. All the translations were somewhat corrupted. There is no perfect translation. The received text you talk about is also not the original manuscript.
You Protestants think that King James Bible is more accurate than the original Greek bible huh? And only English KJV bible is 100% accurate and all other translations of bible in other languages are wrong?
@bbbfohio - Even KJV translation has errors, if you have slightest knowledge about translation, you should no that there is no perfect translation.
Anyway, other translations that I read are corrupt, who told you that? Does that person have the authority from God to say so? Or you are saying this just because you feel like it?
@bbbfohio - I read 17 different English translations of that verse. People who translated that are million times smarter and brilliant than your stupid pastor who speaks only one language.
Vatican corrupted those translation is a story that your insecure pastors feed you incase if you find the truth and leave your church to join the Catholic church.
@bbbfohio - Here is the young's literal translation:
"Be confessing to one another the trespasses, and be praying for one another, that ye may be healed; very strong is a working supplication of a righteous man;"
The word is "paraptomata". Out of 22 instances, only twice is it in the context of "sin". The 20 other appearances refer to trespass against others, offensive behavior, fall or faults.
@bbbfohio - Yes, the original manuscripts of the bible are also corrupt. Only King James Bible is 100% accurate. All other English translations of the bible and translations in other languages are also corrupted. That is what insecure Protestants tell themselves so that they feel secured.
Actually, I'm an Atheist born in a Protestant/Catholic/Sikh/Atheist/Paganist family. That includes my parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts (because we are all very close and we regularly see each other). I was born into the kind of family that surrounded me with different choices, and I decided that the only thing that truly made sense was Atheism.
I dislike corruption, irrationality, and bad fairy tales. I am an Atheist.
@mysteriumaenigma What about Mark 2:7 "Why does this man thus speak Blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God only?" And in Timothy: "There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus."
Do you follow those two verses? Or do you ignore them because you don't like them?
A human priest cannot be a mediator for us, only jesus can do that. A priest cannot forgive anybody their sins.
@jumper86 - Some dumb people in Mark 2:7 were wondering how a man can forgive sins. Jesus told those dummies. "But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.".
Then we see that Jesus the God gave his disciples the power to forgive and retain sins in his name:
"If you forgive anyone his sins, they are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."" John 20:23
@jumper86 - This is how a Catholic and Orthodox priest can forgive the sins of a Catholic or an Orthodox. Catholic and Orthodox priests can not forgive sins of anybody by their personal power. They can only forgive sins by the power of Christ.
Yes, I know those verses very well. Catholics taught your pagan ancestors those verses.
@mysteriumaenigma While the things you say sound good and seem to "make sense", I'm telling you that you should re-evaluate your beliefs on this subject. Why should anyone go to a priest who is no more perfect than you or me, instead of just praying to God himself?
I think in the verse you took from John to explain what was said in Mark, context needs to be considered. It looks like to me Jesus was simply explaining the nature of forgiveness, but wasn't literally granting that power.
@jumper86 - Your interpretation of John 20:23 is FALLIBLE. The INFALLIBLE interpretation of JOHN 20:23 says that Jesus gave his disciples the power to forgive and retain sins in his name. Catholic and Orthodox priests and bishops simply maintain that practice.
@jumper86 - Only in the last few centuries the Protestants have abandoned the practice of confessing sins to a minister or priest. As a result most protestant countries live the most anti Christian life style among all Christian countries. Immorality in protestant societies also went up. Lots of pre-marital sex, abortion, cheating, divorce.
@jumper86 - Go and confessyour sins to your fellow protestant brothers also, in addition to doing that to God. This will help you to live a less sinful life.
"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed". James 5:16
..I learned the hard way that all you have to do is sincerely ask Jesus into your life, read & obey the Gospels & youll be justified in his blood.(romans10:13) just call upon the name of the lord -- acknowledge your guilt & ask jesus 4 mercy - GOD loved us so much he gave us his only son to pay 4 our debt - all you have to do is believe and trust in him as you would in a parachute if you were to jump off an airplane. Read John 3:16 - GOD BLESS YOU ALL
Confession has fallen into disgrace with catholics. The Holy Father in one of his latest briefings, lamented the absence of catholics in the confessional.
There is no scriptural reference for confession to a priest. However Jesus had alot to say about priests of his day. The only time Jesus got mad was at church. Beware the leaven of the Pharisee and Saducee and their Babylonian rituals. James 5:16 "Confess you faults one to another, that ye may be healed. The effective fervent prayer of the righteous man availeth much." Not Priests? Who does the pope confess to? Has your priest confessed his faults to you? Are there Christ priests in Acts?
To hide your sin is to sin. That which is hidden will be revealed. Who do you think you hide your sins from, if GOD knows what is in your heart? Jesus died to pay for my sins, out of gratitute I live a life as free from sin as possible. I am imperfect, however deception is not my game. I confess my sins when and where they happen lest I open myself to more. I confess all my sins to any that want to hear as a testimony to the power of Jesus and the work COMPLETED on the cross. I AM SAVED FROM SIN
@superiorgreen - You are saying that you confess your sins to your fellow protestant brothers also? If so good for you. Although I think you only confess a tiny portion of your sins to them.
Now join the Catholic Church to fully accept the teachings of the Christ. Become a Catholic (or Orthodox) and then confess your sins to a Catholic or Orthodox priest, in addition to confessing your sins to God also.
Did I mentiion Believing in Jesus means you are saved from a life of sin? Does scripture tell you he paid that price? Do you believe he died so you would not have to live a life of sin? If you have repented from your sins, what are the sins you hold on to and have to confess weekly to a priest? Did Christ die in vain? He died so you may know GOD personally, acceptable to HIM, rejuvinated in a newness IN Christ free from sin.
If you still abound in iniquity are you really saved from sin?
That scripture does not say priest or at church. You cannot provide one piece of scripture to back confession to a priest. That means only one thing, It is not of Christ. If you can proivide scripture in the New Testament that says I am to confess TO A PRIEST ALONE (a GOD monopoly), I will become a Catholic tonight. But you can't. It is OK, Jesus does tell of you being decieved by the Pharisee into following LAW as the way. Your bible tells you to test all things, if you read it.
1 Thesallonians 5:21 "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." Definition of Gospel = Good News. How do we know if it is Gospel? You will check it with The Gospel. That which counters scripture should be rejected as NOT the Word of GOD, but something else. There are NO priests in Christianity, just Judaism and Babylonian paganism, which Christ rejected outright as evil. The greatest sinners in Christ's ministry was the priesthood, because they came between man and GOD with LAW.
There is NO reference to confessing to a priest or a specific religious entity, this is about confessing sins towards your brother, to your brother. This specific scripture, given in incorrect context, is actually about forgiving and being forgiven. If you forgive others of thier transgressions against you, you shall not condemn them to sin. This is not discussing the significance of confession. A distortion of GODs word to validate an untruth, are you really deceptive or just decieved?
I live a life dedicated to JESUS! Jesus specifically tells me in Matt 23 about your priests. Don't you know a little Babylonian Priesthood leaven can ruin the whole loaf. Jesus alone is the way to salvation. I follow no men, I follow The Living Word alone. The bible tells you to test all things with scripture. The Pope and priesthood are not the apostles since they reject the teachings and doctrine of Christ alone, and accept pagan practice.
@superiorgreen - In Matt 23 Jesus said, "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. 3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. "
Yes, obey what Jesus commanded you. Obey the teaching of the Catholic or Orthodox bishops.
You do not follow Jesus. You follow you personal private false interpretation of the scripture, even though bible says that scripture is not a matter of somebodys personal interpretation. You are your own arrogant little infallible pope.
The bible is not interpretative to those filled with The TRUTH, which is Jesus. Jesus IS The WORD. The Living Word of GOD IN you. If you would quit listening with itching ears to men, the TRUTH is revealed to you in HIS word. Your rejection of the significance of GOD speaking to you through scripture, makes it very clear why you keep sinning and have to confess it weekly. Jesus died to cleanse you of sin, you still sin? If you still sin often are you cleansed from sin?Do you really believe?
Jesus died on the cross once. He even said "It is done". The work was done. ALL your sins were paid for 100%, so you may be free from sin. If you do not believe the work was done, completed, you will believe there is more you must do to be saved. By your logic, Jesus died on the cross to pay for 90% of our sins, the other 10% we can be cleansed from by confessing to a priest on a regular basis. You have made the sacrifice, the wonderful gift given to you free by GOD, powerless without a priest.

That is really weird ppl have to go to a priest in order to be forgiven of your sins :/ and how they did it for that matter. Why would you talk to somebody through a box? :/ I'd so rather pray to my heavenly father in my room asking him to forgive my sins and not do them anymore :P Step 1: sit down Step 2: pray Step 3: ask for forgiveness Step 4:don't make anymore sins for yourself :/
geth33 3 weeks ago

MrSuperHappyFun 2 months ago
Jesus didn't demand to install a sacrament of confession to pray the rosary.
He taught:
John 8: 1-12
12 I am the light of the world: he that followeth ME shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Matthew 6:
14 For if YE forgive men THEIR trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive YOU:
15 But if YE forgive NOT men THEIR trespasses, NEITHER will your Father forgive YOUR trespasses.
Matthew 7:

11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her,

@XxMetalMartyrxX Then what do you believe Jesus means in John 20:21-23?

Your thoughts?
cburton103 4 months ago
@cburton103 I've never seen anywhere in the Bible where the apostles were given the authority by Jesus Christ that they can chose whether sins are forgiven or not. Only Jesus can forgive through HIS sacrifice. If you are truly open for conversation, I can show you many articles showing the corruption in the Catholic church. My whole family were all Catholic once. I've got experience in this area. Jesus is the only way! Praying in love! <3

Sacrament of confession is a false teaching.
Matthew 5:
19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven...
Matthew 6:
14 For if YE forgive men THEIR trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive YOU:
15 But if YE forgive NOT men THEIR trespasses, NEITHER will your Father forgive YOUR trespasses.
Liebhabaer1974 3 months ago
@Liebhabaer1974 Neither of those verses has nothing to do with whether or not we should go to Confession. The first one says we shouldn't break God's commandments, nor teach anyone else to do so. Jesus commanded the apostles to forgive sins in John 20:21-23. Paul also speaks about the "ministry of reconciliation".
The second verse talks about forgiving people for sinning against you in some way. This is just human forgiveness. Only God can forgive the effects of the sin.
cburton103 3 months ago
@cburton103

Why do we need a father of confession?
Matthew 23:
8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.
9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.
10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.
11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Liebhabaer1974 3 months ago
@Liebhabaer1974 Also, we do call our priests "father" in the same sense that this verse describes. This verse is talking about calling people "father" who you follow in a new set of beliefs. Jesus discussed this with the Jews of the day because Judaism was broken up into many "houses" as they called them. Also, you likely call people you leader/instructor/teacher/master, but Mt 23:10 condemns this. So why do you interpret one verse so out of context but not the other? God bless.
cburton103 3 months ago

Jesus didn't come to bring a new religion to pray the rosary.
He taught cosmic laws, because everything what happen on earth depends from our emotions and thoughts. Love is the universal law.
Love means to forgive each other for sufferings, not to judge by law "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth", not to judge a murderer to death.
The death penalty in USA after a confession has nothing to do with Jesus teaching.

Is the confession the strait gate or the wide gate? Do catholics take the narrow way?
Liebhabaer1974 3 months ago

@Liebhabaer1974 He didn't. The rosary didn't exist back then. It is a prayer tool developed by the Church He gave His authority to, and which the Holy Spirit guides into all truth. Where do you get this crap about "our emotions and thoughts" causing what happens on Earth?
crimini001 2 months ago

Early church fathers and today’s Catholic and Orthodox fathers (the vast majority of the world's Christians) simply maintained and continue to maintain that practice.

dizzy365 11 months ago
@dizzy365 I want to take communion because I am a Christian and I believe the gospel... Christ's death burial and resurrection. Why wouldn't I want to participate in a sign of my faith? I like things simple. One faith, one baptism... (Eph. 4) Humans split the church, it was not Christ's intent. I feel as though I am in communion with the Catholic church and ALL churches that recognize Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. (Nicene and Apostle's Creed)

Re: 'Call no man Father'

MrChristianBeliever 1 year ago
@bornagainsaint1 Re: Matthew 23:9 says "do not call anyone on earth your father, you have only one Father in heaven.
Cherry picking again?
What do other verses have to say about the word 'father' in scripture? Are you deliberately leaving those verses out to suit your own beliefs? In stevesilvia's video 'The Truth about Confession' you have been given multiple verses that are in opposition to your claim and yet you continue to ignore those verses.
For what reason do you do this? Pride?
MrChristianBeliever 1 year ago
@bornagainsaint1 Re: Cherry Picking

Confessing our sins one to another is mainly were we wrong someone and ask them to forgive us..first to God then the person. Christ is our attonement not priests....plus,only God knows your heart, wheither your truly repentant or you just need your religous conscience cleared.

Just telling God doesn't get it for you. He already knows them! You can't just pray because until you hear the words "I absolve you of your sins" you do not know if you were truly forgiven
You must realize that a priest must give you atonement for your sins for pardon of them. That is how God established it to be since the Old Testament

Christ forgives us through the ministry of the Church.

johnthreesixteen316 - You Said "Confess your sins to Christ" and "Nobody else"?
Other than confessing our sins to Christ, we should confess our sins to other people also.
Read:
"Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed". James 5:16
Do you follow that verse? Or do you ignore that verse because you don't like it?

@mysteriumaenigma James 5:16 says, "Confess your faults..." in the real Bible. And there isn't a priest anywhere in the text.

@bbbfohio - I read 17 different English translations of that verse in James 5:16.
I read bible in multiple languages also. "Sins" is the world that appears the most among all these translations (and in different language).
Let me give you the young's literal translation:
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@mysteriumaenigma All the translations you are reading are corrupt. They come from the Vatican text.
The King James Bible does not come from the Vatican, but from the Received Text.
bbbfohio 1 year ago
@bbbfohio - King James bible was compiled by a Catholic. All the translations were somewhat corrupted. There is no perfect translation. The received text you talk about is also not the original manuscript.
You Protestants think that King James Bible is more accurate than the original Greek bible huh? And only English KJV bible is 100% accurate and all other translations of bible in other languages are wrong?
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@bbbfohio - Even KJV translation has errors, if you have slightest knowledge about translation, you should no that there is no perfect translation.
Anyway, other translations that I read are corrupt, who told you that? Does that person have the authority from God to say so? Or you are saying this just because you feel like it?
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@bbbfohio - I read 17 different English translations of that verse. People who translated that are million times smarter and brilliant than your stupid pastor who speaks only one language.
Vatican corrupted those translation is a story that your insecure pastors feed you incase if you find the truth and leave your church to join the Catholic church.

@bbbfohio You can read CODEX SINAITICUS online. There the word "sin" appears in James 5:12.
Now are you going to claim that Vatican corrupted CODEX SINAITICUS also?

@bbbfohio - Here is the young's literal translation:
"Be confessing to one another the trespasses, and be praying for one another, that ye may be healed; very strong is a working supplication of a righteous man;"
James 5:16
Do you as a protestant follow that verse and confess your sins to other protestant brothers?
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@mysteriumaenigma Young's is another corrupt bible from Vaticanus.
The word is "paraptomata". Out of 22 instances, only twice is it in the context of "sin". The 20 other appearances refer to trespass against others, offensive behavior, fall or faults.
bbbfohio 1 year ago
@bbbfohio - Yes, the original manuscripts of the bible are also corrupt. Only King James Bible is 100% accurate. All other English translations of the bible and translations in other languages are also corrupted. That is what insecure Protestants tell themselves so that they feel secured.

Catholics taught your pagan ancestors those verses.
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@jumper86 - There is one mediator between God and man, Jesus!
Mesites is the Greek word for mediator, and it covers a wide range. It means a medium of comunication, or one who helps someone restore.
If I pray for you, I am mediating on your behalf.
Now, am I the same type of Mediator a Christ? No.
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@mysteriumaenigma While the things you say sound good and seem to "make sense", I'm telling you that you should re-evaluate your beliefs on this subject. Why should anyone go to a priest who is no more perfect than you or me, instead of just praying to God himself?
I think in the verse you took from John to explain what was said in Mark, context needs to be considered. It looks like to me Jesus was simply explaining the nature of forgiveness, but wasn't literally granting that power.
jumper86 1 year ago
@jumper86 - Catholics do pray to God directly. What are you talking about? Catholics can also receive forgiveness from God directly.
BTW, read Nicole3900's comment below about what is the priest’s job in terms of forgiving sins in Jesus' name.
About John 20:23, don’t you Protestants believe that bible is the literal word of God?
mysteriumaenigma 1 year ago
@jumper86 - Your interpretation of John 20:23 is FALLIBLE. The INFALLIBLE interpretation of JOHN 20:23 says that Jesus gave his disciples the power to forgive and retain sins in his name. Catholic and Orthodox priests and bishops simply maintain that practice.

Are there Christ priests in Acts?
superiorgreen 2 years ago
@superiorgreen - There is scriptural reference for confession to the priests. Here it is:
'22 When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.
23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."
'John 20:22-23
The apostles and the successors of those apostles heard confessions and forgave sins in Jesus name.
The Catholic and Orthodox Churches simply maintains that practice.

I AM SAVED FROM SIN
superiorgreen 2 years ago
@superiorgreen - You are saying that you confess your sins to your fellow protestant brothers also? If so good for you. Although I think you only confess a tiny portion of your sins to them.
Now join the Catholic Church to fully accept the teachings of the Christ. Become a Catholic (or Orthodox) and then confess your sins to a Catholic or Orthodox priest, in addition to confessing your sins to God also.
mysteriumaenigma 2 years ago
Did I mentiion Believing in Jesus means you are saved from a life of sin? Does scripture tell you he paid that price? Do you believe he died so you would not have to live a life of sin? If you have repented from your sins, what are the sins you hold on to and have to confess weekly to a priest? Did Christ die in vain? He died so you may know GOD personally, acceptable to HIM, rejuvinated in a newness IN Christ free from sin.
If you still abound in iniquity are you really saved from sin?
superiorgreen 2 years ago
That scripture does not say priest or at church. You cannot provide one piece of scripture to back confession to a priest. That means only one thing, It is not of Christ. If you can proivide scripture in the New Testament that says I am to confess TO A PRIEST ALONE (a GOD monopoly), I will become a Catholic tonight. But you can't. It is OK, Jesus does tell of you being decieved by the Pharisee into following LAW as the way. Your bible tells you to test all things, if you read it.
superiorgreen 2 years ago
1 Thesallonians 5:21 "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." Definition of Gospel = Good News. How do we know if it is Gospel? You will check it with The Gospel. That which counters scripture should be rejected as NOT the Word of GOD, but something else. There are NO priests in Christianity, just Judaism and Babylonian paganism, which Christ rejected outright as evil. The greatest sinners in Christ's ministry was the priesthood, because they came between man and GOD with LAW.
superiorgreen 2 years ago
There is NO reference to confessing to a priest or a specific religious entity, this is about confessing sins towards your brother, to your brother. This specific scripture, given in incorrect context, is actually about forgiving and being forgiven. If you forgive others of thier transgressions against you, you shall not condemn them to sin. This is not discussing the significance of confession. A distortion of GODs word to validate an untruth, are you really deceptive or just decieved?
superiorgreen 2 years ago
@superiorgreen - You Protestants dont like to go for confession because you live adulterous and sinful lives.
Priests confess to other priests, instead of laymen. Pope also confesses his sins to confessors.
You asked if a priest confessed his faults to me? Yes, some priests did confess their faults to me and asked me to pray for them.
mysteriumaenigma 2 years ago
I live a life dedicated to JESUS! Jesus specifically tells me in Matt 23 about your priests. Don't you know a little Babylonian Priesthood leaven can ruin the whole loaf. Jesus alone is the way to salvation. I follow no men, I follow The Living Word alone. The bible tells you to test all things with scripture. The Pope and priesthood are not the apostles since they reject the teachings and doctrine of Christ alone, and accept pagan practice.
superiorgreen 2 years ago
@superiorgreen - In Matt 23 Jesus said, "The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat. 3So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. "
Yes, obey what Jesus commanded you. Obey the teaching of the Catholic or Orthodox bishops.
You do not follow Jesus. You follow you personal private false interpretation of the scripture, even though bible says that scripture is not a matter of somebodys personal interpretation. You are your own arrogant little infallible pope.
mysteriumaenigma 2 years ago
The bible is not interpretative to those filled with The TRUTH, which is Jesus. Jesus IS The WORD. The Living Word of GOD IN you. If you would quit listening with itching ears to men, the TRUTH is revealed to you in HIS word. Your rejection of the significance of GOD speaking to you through scripture, makes it very clear why you keep sinning and have to confess it weekly. Jesus died to cleanse you of sin, you still sin? If you still sin often are you cleansed from sin?Do you really believe?
superiorgreen 2 years ago
Jesus died on the cross once. He even said "It is done". The work was done. ALL your sins were paid for 100%, so you may be free from sin. If you do not believe the work was done, completed, you will believe there is more you must do to be saved. By your logic, Jesus died on the cross to pay for 90% of our sins, the other 10% we can be cleansed from by confessing to a priest on a regular basis. You have made the sacrifice, the wonderful gift given to you free by GOD, powerless without a priest.
