  • This shouldnt be a surprise, hes 6'9 and in the NBA. His arms are at least half of his size so his arms are like and extra 3 feet at least all hes got to do is jump a foot not even

  • I love larry bird, but what is shocking about a 6'9 NBA player dunking the ball?

  • What now DUMBASS DRAKE!??!?!

  • If he was black, no one would be surprised

  • Larry Legend just looked at Drake and said, now what lil' mullato

  • people he is 6.9 ofcourse he can dunk he was in the nba you automaticly a realy good athleate

  • @lbj6mj23 lol dude larry bird wasn't a good "athlete" in any sense of the word. he was a very different player.

  • @jonnieos

well he played about 38 mins a game thats a good athealete i aint saying hes do,imique lol

  • @jonnieos There's more too being a great athlete than jumping ability (though he did have a pretty decent vertical, he just didn't dunk a lot because of his back). Stamina, hand eye coordination and body control need to be factored into an athletic evaluation as well. Bird excelled at all these aspects.

  • Larry, simply the best

  • That's great acting there by Magic, pretending he finds it funny. He's said a million times that next to getting diagnosed with AIDS, that Game 7 was the worst night of his life.

  • Magic is such a hype-artist....Larry dunked all the time...I saw live and in highlights...not as much as nique or MJ of courst but they dunk more than big men. Magic didn't dunk to often either though so I dunno what he was getting at. Larry's back after '85 made him adjust his game slightly.

  • greatest player of all time

  • i got an authentic bird jersey haha now i showin love

  • Why do Americans call everything "world championships" or "World Series" when only Americans play in the league?

  • @Thexderx well i don't know about the other sports but the NBA is probably the most competitive league in the world because it has the best players in the world. Team USA dominates in basketball in Olympics so pretty much NBA = World championships.

  • @yuch1102 That is probably true, but you still can't call it "World" if your states/towns are the only ones allowed to play.

  • @Thexderx yes that's true but technically there are players from all around the world in NBA, Various European countries, China, and South American Countries, so yea

  • @Thexderx maybe because theres people from all over the world that play? in fact theres a bunch of foreign players that are very famous. pau gasol(spain) dirk nowitzki (germany) yaiu ming (china) steve nash (canada)

  • @YourNameHere136 Canada is U.S. Number 2....LOL it doesn't count as a foriegn courty...

  • @usnate1 wtf, canada is a different country then the united states...

  • @YourNameHere136 No shit....hence the sarcasm.

  • @usnate1 what the fuck are you talking about. i guess sarcasm doesnt translate well over text. just forget it

  • @YourNameHere136 You see(my Canadian friend as I assume) since the text doesn't translate into Canadian (otherwise known as English...more sarcasm, and irony.) LOL is "Laugh out Loud" in short form. Which is insinuative of a joke. Canada is practically part of the U.S. culture is what I meant and visa versa.

  • @usnate1 im not canadian im from massachusetts and i dont really care anymore. cool?

  • Shocking?...Search YouTube for...

Larry Bird huge dunk on Caldwell Jones (1982)

  • or Larry Bird Greatest Dunks

  • *RARE* Larry Bird Nice Reverse Slam

    is another one.

  • its not the world championship - its the NBA championship !

  • 0:15 Margin of error is slim, correct. I recall that Reggie Miller only ever played in 1 Game 7 win. 1995 vs the Knicks. He played in 3 losing Game 7's (94,95 and 98 conference finals). Played in a few losing game 5's as well, one of them was against Bird and the Celtics in 1992?.

  • @pcorf Reggie is a legend in the game of basketball...best pure shooter in the game.

  • the best thing about the celtics and lakers rivalry back then is how much bird and magic respected each other. that is not the case in the current rivalry.

  • LOL...Regie and Magic are in Larry's posse now.

  • it is a miracle he can dunk

  • I think his vert is not 25. Stephan holmes high jumps 7ft 7 and has 24 inch svj due to quad stagnant.

  • what he is saying? so white man cant dunk?

  • @andmngl yah pretty much

  • Bird>Magic

  • @thISmurderous true dat

  • @thISmurderous While Magic's career can be considered "greater", even Magic would say that Bird was a better all around player. Isaih even said if you got all the guys from the 80's in their prime in one room (even Jordan), the last man out of that room would be Larry Bird.

  • I can see this play happening again only this time its little Rondo running the with the ball and he got KG on the wing passing the ball back to him for the dunk. I want Rajon Rondo to run Derek Fisher out of his gym shoes. BEAT LA....

  • Imagine Scalabrine doing this in game 7 of this years finals

  • @CHARRIS5550 Thank you for comparing brian "no skill" Scalabrine to Larry"legend" Bird.

  • dude, sick move. #VIDEOPOSTERID# I mostly like the middle =P Can you imagine that I finally worked hard enough to begin dunking! I just completed the the nba exercise course over at 50inch vertical[dot]com and did it in only 6 weeks

Larry Bird dunking in game 7 of the NBA Finals! Shocking!

  • Larry dunked about once a game in his early years. but nobody noticed.

  • The3 beauty was that the guy almost never dunked. I loved another video of a left handed shot inside the paint. Dunks are less talented shots, IMO.

  • So because i spell magic wrong i dont know anything about the game of basketball? wow you really should't be as picky because one day it will land you in shit.

  • That was the best NBA Finals I have ever seen and Bird made the difference. He did it all for the Celtics against what was, honestly, a more talented Lakers team.

  • @trevorh321 thats technically not true. the lakers and celtics were stacked at the time...

  • It is true. The Lakers had more talent. Bird was the difference.

  • @trevorh321 in 1984 the lakers had magic, michael cooper, james worthy and the captain in their starting five. the c's had dennis johnson, larry bird kevin machale and robert parish.both lineups are fantastic and so were their benches. discuss

  • @trevorh321

Bird was the difference? If memory serves me well the Lakers got the better of it...............

  • @ChrisinEC The celts won that year. '86

  • @usnate1 I know they won in 86, I meant overall the Lakers got the better of it. Both great teams though and not tryin' to dis Larry Legend. Just sayin' Lakers won more rings.......

  • @ChrisinEC Thats also why I give alot of credit to larry over magic. Scoring wise larry was obviously way superior to magic. Most bc larry could post and knew how to get the foul plus the 2pts over n over. He had more range too. And when Dennis johnson was injured larry averaged 14 assists 25 points and 9 rebounds. Not to mention larry's FT%, 3p%. Magic had the luxury of a better overall team to pass to. Most of larry's teams were just catch n lay it in types other than mchale. Ainge's shot naaw

  • @thenutsisgood When looking at per game stats the lakers took it at every postion except at SF and PF. Kareem vs. Parish c'mon? DJ vs. Magic c'mon? Byron Scott vs. Danny Ainge c'mon? Magic can't get 13 assists a game without his guys scoring so effieciently, an assist is only an assist when it goes in. '86 was the only time the lakers didn't make against the celts because they were injury proned that year. All these reasons is why I would take larry over magic. Taking a lesser teams to victory.

  • Larry Bird is doing what he needs to do to get the job done.

  • the best write back shazimdxfan

  • you dont need to be able to jump high to dominate the game of basketball

  • No, you don't. But it sure as hell helps!

  • true it makes the game that much easier, you can get away with mental mistakes if you have the physical ability to recover from them

  • Yea These days basketball is so caught up in vertical jump height. If you are tall enough like Bird you can get away with having a small vertical.

  • He had a vertical of 28" early in his career, before his back and heels gave out on him. And 28" is around average for the NBA now. So, he wasn't a total non-athlete. Plus, it's standing reach that's important, not so much how high your head is. Bird's was 9'1" so he'd only need to jump about 18" to dunk and probably another 3 or 4 inches to throw it down 2 handed, which he usually did.

  • @crackwhen :D its all comes down to athleticism and plays. larry bird you legend!

  • @crackwhen lol after seeing mj we know it helps.

  • @crackwhen -michael jordan

  • Larry Legend...best player ever, hands down

  • All I can say is watch Larry Bird Greatest Dunks the video attached to this one.

  • he preffered to shoot the ball ;)

  • Waaaa......he can dunk? Why..Its larry Bird!

  • Good to know that the KKK is still alive and kicking.

  • lol

  • Bird is 6'9" and didnt have to have much hops to be able to dunk in a 10' rim or on someone for that matter.

  • I remember this was my favorite play of Game 7, though I wanted the Lakers to win. I thought "man, Bird is good."

  • Everybody focused on his dunking completely forgot about the nice crossover that started the break.

I believe Larry Legend was very athletic. Some racial politrix are at play though. They don't want to give him credit for being athletic so they say that he's smart and he's a leader to make up for it. That's BS. He didn't show his athleticism but chose to be efficient. Hey, 2 points is 2 points and no dunk can give you 3 points.

  • Tom Chambers and Danny Vranes, I think they both played at Utah, both were tall white guys with 40 inch plus vertical leaps.

But compared to most NBA players, Bird was not a great jumper. He was the smartest player ever, though. Best passing and shooting forward, too.

  • Larry was all about winning and I have never seen any player so determined to win, who dived for the ball so often and that eventually led to his back problems, but even then he found ways to help his team.

  • @trevorh321 Jordan was better than Bird and Magic in two basic things: "muscles" (it also meant jumping, agility, speed, strenght....) and mental determination. He was worst than Bird in shooting and worst than both of them in passing, intelligence, leadership and specially in TEAM GAME. Anyway, his incredible mental strength made him the most dominant player in modern basketball. But I will always say: Bird and Magic, how we miss you.

  • @juliojgr19 I disagree.....Although Jordan has the best ALL AROUND skills. Bird has perhaps the highest IQ in the history of the game. He had as much mental determination as anybody including Jordan.

  • @williwo If IQ is similar to talent, intelligence and quality, then you are totally true, Bird had more IQ than Jordan.

  • @juliojgr19 Yeah I think we're pretty much on the same page for the most part. I'll put it this way.....If I need someone to score at the buzzer......I'd say Jordan or Bird. I dont care. Just give me one of those two!

  • @juliojgr19 The thing that gave Jordan an edge was his natural athletic abilities....but in terms of mental toughness....they were virtually identical.

  • @williwo Probably yes, because their winning mentality was identical (nothing is so nice than the famous finger up in the three point contest), but I still think Jordan had some unknown strengh in his mind that made him take an special advantage of his athletic abilities.

  • @juliojgr19 I agree, I was still more in awe of watching magic and larry play the game getting all 5 involved. In my mind beautiful basketball will always impress me more than individual athletic ability. Thats why 10 out of 10 times jordan lost to these guys in their prime. Thank you for saying that. Correct on all counts.

  • he doesnt really need to dunk. hes more focused on winning the game and scoring unbelievable shots. looks as if he was more into the run off this play that he had no time for a lay up. it was more of stuffing the ball in the basket to catch his balance. truly my favorite player of all time

  • Bird didn't dunk very often and i don't remember him doing many after 86 or 87...the guy is 6'9" for cry eye and he could run pretty damn good for a big guy...I do recall the reverse dunks, Bird had basically 2 dunks, the straight up 2 hander or the right to left, right handed reverse dunk from the '81 Philly series...I saw him do the same dunk against the Bulls a few years later and he tried one against the Pacers that bounced off the rim..

  • This video is actually quite misleading. Larry dunked quite a bit early in his career, but he played the second half of it with a bad back. It's really after the back injury that he didn't dunk very often.

  • and white wow what a shocker

  • Larry is 6'9 if he couldnt dunk that would be pretty pathetic. I dont understand why this was so shocking to magic that he could dunk. Back in 81' I saw Larry do a 180 reverse dunk in bigger traffic against Philly. Now that was shocking cuz it was a skilled athletic move. This particular dunk against LA was a straight forward breakaway dunk.

  • yo marc3000 its shocking cuz he a team player not a dunker holds record for assists

  • I saw that same game.

Even in warm-ups Larry Bird was doing lay-ups more than a foot above the rim.
