I owned 1997 Camaro SS 6 speed and 2002 Camaro Z28 auto. (3th and 4th generation) The stock LT1 runs high 13's in the 1/4 mile on a good run. I have to say that it is a mind bogging to hear that the basic bolts-on the LT1 runs low 13's depending on the set-up. By the way the 4th generation LS1 Camaro are much better and much quicker due to better heads, and airflow compared with the LT1. The LS1 engine is the beautiful architect of small block Chevy engine.
@jmacnicholl97 Back in the early '00s Muscle Mustang & Fast Ford magazine tested an LS1 powered Camaro (can't remember if it was Z28 or SS) but they managed high 12s out of it, as a wake up call to Ford. The actual article is on my website (Mustang-Town . com and it's also on my other website StreetShowDriftDrags . com)
The LS1 is nands down the greatest "bang for the buck" motor produced. But, if money is lower, the LT1 is a great alternative. They have loads of potential...
@NedacFilms It was a 2001 issue of MMFF, I remember reading it, they were doing a comparison with the new 2001 Bullitt. Those were tough times for Mustang enthusiasts because LS1 cars were killing Cobras and everything, bad. Until 2003 and the Terminator, lol. Actually the 99 and 01 Cobras were fast with 4.30 gears, exhaust and tune, it was on then.
@SN1PERNOSNIPING Absolutely the LS1 is way better... but a decent 6-speed equipped LT1 can be bought for $3000, bolt on $1,000 worth of performance parts, and it is one nasty creature that's flirting with 12 second 1/4 miles and handles and brakes very well.
@SN1PERNOSNIPING Absolutely the LS1 is far better versus the LT1, but for those that can't afford an LS1 powered F-body, the LT1 version is still a damn good bang for the buck. Factory 6-speed transmission, and 300 rear wheel, real world horsepower with simple bolt-ons, factory optioned 3.23 or 3.42 gears, 4-wheel disc brakes, factory torque arm, factory pan-hard rod and McPherson suspension, these cars are full blown performers, on the street, on the drag strip and road course.
@SN1PERNOSNIPING With these bolt-ons, it ran the same 1/4 times as an LS1 powered F-body, and you see how well it did against the LS1 Camaro SS, the LT1 hung right there with it, & if the LT1 was the 6-speed version it would have done better. My point is, for $3k + $1k in mods, you have a decent F-body that competes with factory LS1 cars & N/A Cobras of same era. (ie: '01 Cobra dyno numbers were right around the same 275-280hp @ the wheels, 96-98 & 99 Cobra was 250-260hp range)
@NedacFilms Yes if you don't have the extra 1000 to 2000. I would never drive the LS1 body styles tho because they are ugly. I have a 1994 camaro that I swaped in a LS1 and with heads and a little tweeking here and there I had it over 400. about 405. I Never consider mustangs a car to run with WS6 and LS1 camaros. Until 2003 Cobras they just couldn't keep up. I hate ther 98-02 camaros...they look like a seebring. Haha.
@SN1PERNOSNIPING The 98-02 cars straight from the factory doesn't look that great, I agree... but I think they actually look decent with the right stance and wheel combo. I think a lowered down, more aggressive stance SS model looks fantastic. The hood and rear spoiler helps, but it's all in the ride height and wheel/tire that makes a car, I think.
@NedacFilms They look ok with the SS stuff but I still wouldn't drive one. I understand that performace matters but I like to have a car that looks as good as it preforms. Looks mean a lot to me when I buy a sports car. I m looking to buy a 540i right now. With some carbon fiber, chip, and exhaust work I'll have it running 13.0 seconds in 1/4. It is a 1997 tho. I do agree with you I am just disapointed that they switched the body style to that when it was perfect before. I Loved those camaros
@SN1PERNOSNIPING For me it's the other way around. The 98-02 cars have a bit of a throwback look similar to the early 70s cars. The 93-97 cars are way too pointy in the nose, the whole car looks like a wedge or door stop. Everyone has their opinions though.
@nickdec19 I've been looking around to try and find another '94 LT1 powered 6-speed Z28 or Formula, to put up against the Mustang project. I want to do a video series, '94 Stang vs '94 Z28 (or Formula, or even T/A) ...basically allow the same budget with both cars, and see where they go... put them against each other on the strip, street and road course. I'm looking!!!...LOL!!!
@need2speed94 Yeah, try doing that with an old conventional 5.0 Mustang...LOL!!! You'll need Heads and Cam swap... unless of course, you have a stripped down, bare bones, very light Notchback Coupe model...LOL!!! Seriously though, it doesn't take much to make these LT1 engines make power. They have great 170cc factory heads (better than 140cc GT40 heads) and have decent factory cam and intake as well. You can tach the hell out of 'em too, and they seem to never run out of breath.
@NedacFilms Yea true that man. GT40 heads are terrible, and the throttle body on those 5.0's is extremely restrictive... the list goes on. But, people that put correct parts on it seem to get them going pretty quick, just comes down to if you want to spend the extra time/effort. This video is a good example of how much work is really needed to get those 5.0s moving hah. Look at the mod list for the 5.0-
@NedacFilms LS1 is still better tho lmao comeing from a mustang owner myself, they LS1 r power houses. Would love to own a 98-02 WS6 or a 98-02 Camaro ss. Even a newer GTO like 2006 model would be nice
...another revised video fellas. This is old footage that I shot many years ago, and posted to YouTube awhile back, but I've removed the original version, made a couple slight changes (aspect ratio, watermark, etc...) and re-posted this version. Sorry to all the subscribers that has seen all the footage of this particular car, and if you haven't yet seen any of this, I hope you enjoy, and please thumbs up, share your thoughts and post away on Facebook, LOL! Just showing how easy LT1's make power
@johnsskatestuff External modifications that are literally 'bolted on' or are very simple modifications. Intake, headers/catbacks/midpipes (exhaust), throttle body, under drive pulleys, injectors... things like that. Things that aren't considered bolt ons are things like cams, pistons, rods, cranks.. mostly internal stuff. Bolt ons at first are small upgrades that may not bring huge power, but really shine once more drastic mods have been added. Hope this helped at least a little hah.
@johnsskatestuff Bolt-ons, as in minor, common and easy modifications that literally "bolt-on" or outside the motor. Most commonly, bolt-on mods (or otherwise known as "Bolt-ons") don't include Heads, Cams or any internal mods... Bolt-ons are generally considered mods like, exhaust, intake manifolds, throttle-body, MAF, fuel pressure regulators, cold-air kits, underdrive pulleys, ignition mods, injectors, rear-end gears (gear ratio swap like 3.73 or 4.11 ring & pinion), etc...
Its running right along with that LS1 powered SS, hell yeah.
