read up on wind shear. You will find out that it can actually be very sudden. If there was both a strong updraft and a strong headwind gust at such a low altitude (considered a high risk area), it's possible that the climbing angle will be pushed too high. The overly high angle of the plane will then reduce airspeed due to the fact that the engines are now trying to do a vertical climb. Those engines aren't very good at doing straight verticals.

The initial kinetic motion plus the continued thrust of the engines will still allow the plane to get some height, but ultimately the plane will be in a dead wingstall, and will then fall quite freely until it can re-orient itself in descent to get that wing airspeed back up and get lift=control back.

I don't think they were trying to pull up. There are often odd wind conditions near runways.
Strong downdrafts will slam a plane at 1-200 feet altitude into the ground in a couple of seconds. Those are called wind shear.
The opposite can happen too. That plane probably caught an updraft and a headwind together, flipping it over.
It's not necessarily pilot error.
