First off, thank you very much. I have learned to love math again through your videos. Secondly, What is the graphing program that you use? Please and thank you.
i guess that f(x,y) is not da height its tha equation of da surface for which every point in da surface satisfies.it can be da height only if da surface is maintained at da same leavel
I'm definitely sure that this is useful. I was studying something else while I came across this and I didn't know what it was about. Then I watched these videos to make myself able to understand what is a double (and triple) integral.
@spikeyredcactus when ur taking double integral, you have to do it piece by piece. Since we have both Xs and Ys in the equation we have to choose one of the variables to be constant, so on this video the Y was chosen to be constant.
Now if y is chosen to be constant, then y^2 is basically a constant squared, right? hence, y^2 is just a constant.
Short answer: double integral formula tells u that u have to make one of the variables constant before u begin. Here Y was chosen to be that variable.
@spikeyredcactus: Here’s a better and simpler explanation: notice, how on the graph, the y-part is 1 the whole time (he draws it out at 3:40 – 3:43;) but notice how that y-part is just a constant 1 the whole time – that’s why it was treated as a constant – hope that helps.
what are the applications of double intergral because I'm high school senior who understands Calculus well but I just don't see any use for any of these math that are practical in real life sense.
@vkgoku2012 ... there's a lot of time's in Physics and Chemistry where we end up with things that are functions of more than one independent variable at a time ... This stuff (Calc III) is basically the same stuff as Calc I all over again just taking multidimensional functions into account
Real life? You're in high school. Of course you wouldn't know how it's applied in real life. Math is a language to express all the scientific phenomena around us. It could be used in any scientific research where you need to know the measurement of "space" within boundaries. (electrical fields, aerospace, how much "space" there exists between us and the moon...be creative, how much volume does there need to be in jet turbines so that all the pressure won't explode your aircraft?)

Ontological: I wouldn't say that. If he goes into any rigorous science, it will help to have a good math background.

There is one thing I don't get, how come when you only integrate x and y, why is the sliver vertical instead of lying horizontal??
