The only thing I dislike about this video is that everyone gets a closeup during their solo except Tony! Okay, a little closeup during the last part of his 2nd solo. Come on camerman!!! Love this song. Sam Bush singing is great! All of these guys play so well together. I can listen to this over and over again.
@jamiedaley I hate to say it, but to me, the flatt and scruggs version smokes this version. Type in "whitehouse blues flatt and scruggs" and take a listen. Someone did a slide show for the video but musically it smokes this version and I think Tony, Sam and Bela would admit that. They are all big Flatt, Scruggs, Monroe, Reno, Smiley, Stanley brothers fans anyway.
Close enough, but my reason for asking XLIVwhodat is that I believe that you can't play like TR( Maybe not even close) and must really envy Tony. I have NEVER heard anyone say they don't like Tony!!!
@XLIVwhodat Tony Rice is 1 of the best guitarists in bluegrass for being able to improvise the way he does. It's not offbeat jazzy rambling, it's pure brilliance.
This is a phenomenal version of this song. I wish this was available on iTunes or something. These are some of the greatest bluegrass players ever. Jerry Douglas is the greatest dobro player ever.

I'm pretty sure they call it improvisation!
herringbone28 1 year ago
@herringbone28 I know plenty of guitarists who can improv without goin into some offbeat jazzy rambling.
