Like a lot of euro players not much post play but I think at that age with those skill sets his game can only improve with time. D may be an issue because in the NBA he's going to have to keep some strong guys out of the lane and move them off the block. I didn't see much help skills as far as double teams and D concepts but Tibs is a great coach and will make it a point of emphasis. Overall I'm exited about his NBA future with the Bulls.

What SG that went draft night or was traded prior are we all getting upset about??? Truth is none. The Lockout has put a biiiig shadow over what clubs can and....
To all the Bulls fans on here i want to clarify something. Firstly no team wanted pick 28 and 30. Simply because they are protected, meaning the player you draft is given a two year contract and it's guaranteed. Second round picks have no guarantees so were actually worth more to teams because they could draft the player then cut him to make room if need be without any financial penalty. Secondly the pick we have from Charlotte is protected which is why M.J has traded out every bit of talent he.
His ability to shoot the long ball, put the ball on the court and pass is very promising indeed. We may not have got a SG but there is still free agency to look at and we do have pieces like Taj and Omir that we will move IF the right deal presents itself. Very happy with Butler and Mirotic. Think we did outstanding, all things considered. Let him play in Spain for a few more years, we could have a real gem on our hands!!!!!!!!!
If I was a bulls fan, I wouldn't be the least bit threatened by his missed easy layups or missed assignments, those things are teachable. HOWEVER, this dude is 6'10 and effortlessly getting to the rim and has great passing ability, things you cannot teach. I hate to say it because I don't want them getting better, but Chicago just got a STUD!
@1drosefan Off of the air ball it showed him hustling back and getting the steal, and off of the next missed shot he hustled back and partially blocked the layup. Maybe he just showed everything he did good and bad, just for people who want to see how he plays because he got drafted and are interested on seeing his play style.
great pick by the bulls this dude might turn out to be very good. His jumper was rated 10 out of 10 on a couple sites and his game is similiar to Toni Kukuc/poormans Dirk. Love the pick. Go get a vet SG in free agency now.
@sengtrain68, are you shitting me? The man has an amazing jump shot, he's a great shooter. It's a shitty draft, those two picks would have had no impact besides decreasing the Bull's budget.
@silentkillah07 You have some other type of video or knowledge of Mirotic available to you that the rest of us do not? This is supposed too be a highlight video so it would be the "best of" don't you think?
He may end up being a good NBA player or he may be a bust but there is no reason to sugar coat his skills and fantasize how about how much better he may be some day. The video that I have seen of him looks like his game is not going to make an impact in the NBA. I hope that I am wrong.
@Philtration, Jimmy Butler was a fantastic pick up at 30. He'll be a well rounded, hard working, tough, across the board contributor. Role player off the bench sure, but this was a shitty draft and we were picking 30th, not 1st or 2nd.
Mirotic is a good player who has skills that we need. He's a great three point shooter with, your extremely odd disection of his shooting form aside, he'll be of great benefit down the line. When he gets here, he'll be a solid contributor, possibly starter.
@Philtration, bottom line your criticisms of the Bulls drafting has the same problems that every other criticism I have heard so far has. Yes, tragically the Bulls were unable to draft the next Kobe with either the 28th or 30th picks in what will likely be an historically awful draft. Anyone who thought that the Bulls could draft their future starting 2 guard with a late first rounder in this draft was woefully off base. And no one was going to trade a solid SG for those picks.
@1drosefan, common sense. For the moment all plans are going to be on hold due to the lock out and who knows how long that will last. But the glaring flaws in trying to cover the 2 Voltron style with Bogans, Brewer and Korver were pretty damn obvious. It's a situation that has to be addressed, and with the draft as bad as it was, obviously they are going to resolve it, if and when they can, via free angency or a trade. Pretty basic reasoning there, nothing that complicated.
@jdlund I never expected the next Kobe. You draft for what you need and they did not do that. They needed offense and a player that can create his own shot. Especially at the SG position. Did they address that in this draft? No. If the draft was weak then package your picks and get one good player. It did not have to be an established player. Get the best that you can in the draft. They did not need another version of Ronnie Brewer and they did not need more bench depth.
@Philtration, first of all, no there was no one in the draft who fits that description. But why are you assuming that there was any team out there who was willing to trade a solid veteran SG for low first round draft picks in this shit sandwhich of a draft? No team was willing to do that; everyone knew it was a shit draft and teams generally don't like low first round picks period. Hence why the Bulls didn't do that. It's not enough for them to want to trade.
@jdlund Why do you assume that I was talking about a veteran?
If you can move up in the draft to take this guy then why not move up to take the SG?
Several trades were made in this draft including the Bulls. I just don't see the big deal about Mirotic and Butler was a stretch at 30. There were better players left on the board. You said that the Bulls will get what they need elsewhere. Where is that since you yourself claimed that no one would make that kind of trade?
@Philtration, well who else where the Bulls going to trade for with picks besides a veteran? Some other crappy player in this craptastic draft? Anyway, bottom line is that this guy is a standout talent who would have gone in the lottery had he been coming over here. We have a good enough team that we have the luxury to wait while he plays overseas and becomes even better. Bigs with long range shooting capacity are always a nice thing to have, creates a lot of coverage issues for opponents.
Yes, Bigs with long range shooting capacity are nice and so are bigs that can score in the paint and rebound the basketball. The Bulls became a jump shooting team against Miami in the playoffs and it cost them.
@Philtration, well we'll have to see what he brings in 2 or three years. His numbers don't stand out right now, but his talent and potential very much do. It's very likely that he would have gone in the lottery had he been coming over next year (somewhat irrelevant given there may not be any basketball).
Obviously I could be wrong, but in 2 or 3 years I think we'll be bringing over a very solid player, not necessarily elite or an all star, but solid nonetheless.
The worst thing that you can do is become a one dimensional team especially if that means having to rely on long distance shots. The FG% is much higher for points in the paint than jump shots and the Bulls had to ask their point guard to be their inside weapon.
@Philtration of course mirotic has some weaknesses but its not like he will be playing right away. He won't even join the bulls for another 2 years or maybe even 3. He has time to develop his game. In 3 or 4 years he will be replacing boozer when he is washed up. Nikola won't even matter until a few years...
@Philtration Nikola Mirotic is a standout. Euroleague MVP for the month at 20 years old averaging just under 19 ppg and 7 boards. The bulls will still have that defensive mentality with noah and post presence with booz. Mirotic will spread the floor, bringing a 4 out to the perimeter with him letting rose be even more effective in the paint. Just a modern day, faster Toni Kukoc.
My first post was from 6 months ago and I was not at all impressed with him.
He is putting up better numbers but that is not the NBA and I hope his play has improved over the footage seen here because this is not going to fly in the NBA.
@Philtration True, but I guess its just a waiting game now. Cause I remember everyone saying that about ricky rubio and not having NBA talent. And so far, he's been livin up to the hype about him coming over to the states and playing with the wolves.
@Philtration, as for draft strategies, drafting the best player available is frequently the best strategy. Drafting strictly according to need often leads to bad results. Drafting according to need was why Portland ended up with an injury riddled Sam Bowie and drafting the best player available is why we ended up with Michael Jordan. Obviously an extreme example, but no the Bulls picks this year were the best considering where they drafted this year. We'll get what we need elsewhere.
@Philtration, I wouldn't take Kyle Singler over anyone. Seriously, Singler will be a total waste in the NBA. Butler may be too, I won't lie, there's a chance that he won't do much either, but he has a lot more potential than Singler.
The draft day trades proved that picks were not all that valued and that there was a consensus that this was a shitty draft, because it was. Bulls will get what they need through other trades and free agency, and they got the best they could from the draft.
@Philtration SG doesn't have to be obtained via draft or trade..there are viable options on the FA market..J.R. Smith and Jason Richardson come to mind. To trade for a SG that's worth having would take more than 2 late first rounders. Hell even the rockets want at least Asik for Courtney Lee. The only SG that may possibly come at a discount is OJ Mayo, and that may not even be the case. I say retain the depth and work the free agency soon as the damn lockout ends.
He looks like he can't jump at all, is soft going to the basket and it he takes too much time to get off his jump shot.
That means lots of shots blocked in his face.
I did not see anything that makes me believe that he can rebound and play defense in the NBA so I am not really thrilled with this trade and they have to wait 3 years for him.
The Jimmy Butler pick was really bad. He is no better than a middle 2nd rounder and the Bulls did not need him. Dumb pick and disappointing night.
He wont make the bulls roster unless he gets more consistant with his shot ..AND plays defense.. other than that hes good! bulls gotta get a SG in free agency tho
HELL YEAH. Great trade by the bulls. Plenty of time for him to develop in Europe. He would have been a lottery pick if it wasn't for the buyout. Same strategy worked wonderfully with Asik.
@mmmyummy284, you're a couple steps behind. The Rockets traded this pick and Brad Miller to Minny for Jonny Flyn and the 20th pick (Donatas). Minny then traded this pick to the Bulls, so Mirotic is on the Bulls and he is definitely a great pick for Chicago.
It's funny how dumb ass Heat fans are talking shit about the Bulls and saying Mirotic is going to be a bust or that Chicago has become a jump shooting team. Let's talk about the facts, the Heat live and die with LeBron, Wade and Bosh, fine they have role players but the Bulls have a deeper bench this season and people are saying how Chicago MUST have home court? I see that Mirotic is playing a lot better this season in the Euroleague.
He is averaging 18.5 points and 6.8 rebounds a game so far and that sounds good to all Bulls fans.
Hope he lives up to the promise.

@dkuforiji90 I am an idiot?
You know nothing about the NBA.
The worst thing that you can do is become a one dimensional team especially if that means having to rely on long distance shots. The FG% is much higher for points in the paint than jump shots and the Bulls had to ask their point guard to be their inside weapon.
THAT is a recipe for failure

@Jordan234531Bulls Yes, I said the same thing before you posted it.
My first post was from 6 months ago and I was not at all impressed with him.
He is putting up better numbers but that is not the NBA and I hope his play has improved over the footage seen here because this is not going to fly in the NBA.
Kukoc had NBA talent when the Bulls drafted him.
Philtration 2 months ago

We'll get what we need elsewhere.
jdlund 8 months ago
@jdlund I understand that but I don't feel that the Bulls drafted the best available player with either one of their picks.
6'10" guys do not stand out around the 3 point line unless they are Dirk Nowitzki and no one is going to confuse this guy with Dirk Nowitzki.
The Bulls have plenty of bench and they have the 6'7" - 6'8" swingman position covered.
Offense from someone while Rose is on the bench was a glaring need in the post season and they did not address that. They could have done so.

@jdlund By the way... I would have taken Kyle Singler out of Duke over Butler any day of the week.
Philtration 8 months ago 3

@O0oTAYLORGANG44o0O
He is supposed to stay in Europe for a few years to develop. That should be enough time for him to tune up his game.
Arojas83 8 months ago
@Arojas83 Oh, ok well that's better. Hopefully he can adjust well to the NBA. Kinda like Omer Asik

Dude is like Toni Kukoc!

@bigdinkel
If thats the case then the Bulls stole this guy :)
Arojas83 8 months ago
