And finally, Floyd's music was never about drugs and sex (as opposed to quite a bit)! It was about contemporary life (of the era, as well as today's) and its pressing demands...
This song happens to be one of the greatest ever because of the lack of vocals. Every band believes that it is their sacred duty to put their fucking ego out there, and often times it ruins the quality of music!! This song intrigues most people because of the mystery, the passion, and the ability of the listener to just wander and add their own life experience to it. It is a shame that this is a truly one of a kind song, because if there were more like this the world of music would be richer!!!
Some details, im not perfect in avoiding generalizations too, specially in day-a-day life; I ment Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed AND Pink Floyd guided a good amount of the rock of the last decades, not all.
And i dont have the habit of writting such long comments.
But they all play mostly rock and it doesnt mean any of them is better than the others. As it doesnt mean that a more famous song of rap, Hip-Hop, R&B, even pop-rock, etc., its better than the less famous ones, by being undreground or just a band that failed in fame.
Ok, enough, i gave too much turns around the topic. MY CONCLUSION IS THAT GENERALIZATIONS WITH MUSIC STYLES ARE COMPLETELY UNLOGICAL.
Great song, i dont know how i missed until today, i heard most pink floyd discography.
Underground music has that name for some reason. You dont find good underground music by checking tops, televisions, or big festivals. For example, Lou Reed and his partners in Velvet Undreground. In my opinion, they and Led Zeppelin guided rock for what it has been being(im not sure how to write this) in the last decades.
But how many of you have heard about Lou Reed? Some thousands, of course, theyre underground. And Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd? Everyone heard of them.
For all that got in the talk generated by scorpio and neomixxx:
You make ALL the same mistake. Generalizations. Every single of you, you just cant avoid it. A very hard thing to do to people that dont study argumentation. I cant.
Scorpio, you say that there isnt good music made this days? But what you hear from this days? What goes on TV? Maybe youre exploring in the wrong places. And thats because you have a formed idea, formed by generalizations, and you dont really make an effort to search.
Divine music, there is a legend about good musicians that they sell their soul to devil to make good music...Pink floyd sold their soul to God to make this perfect music...
Rap = a bunch of street criminals and gang members trying to get rich. No wonder they seem to get either shot dead or behind bars most of the time. It's a money making scam. Very few of them have any real talent to speak of.
@stanleyrr907 Well said. Another class example of why music went down the toilet. Anyone can just pick up a mike and sing with garbage drums. It is a money making scam no doubt.
I hate when people go and try to get thumbs up on their comment, its pretty dumb.
If you actually have something to say instead of anything that relates to the like/dislike bar, or justin beiber or other dumb things like that then its a comment.
It is a very warm evening for November here in the north. I can see the silhoutte of the city from here as I am listening to Shine On....It is difficult to find the exact words to describe what I am experiencing, so I won't describe it I will feel it, live it, be it.,
@scorpiobornin69 "...what proves this is there is no is no unique sound anymore."
Dude you clearly havent listened to any new music for awhile. Unique sound:
RADIOHEAD, Black Keys, The White Stripes, Six Organs of Admittance, Death Cab For Cutie, John Frusciante on Niandra and Smile From The Streets, Omar Rodriguez, Elliott Smith, The Shins, Sublime, Wolf Parade, Fiona Apple, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Countless others. You clearly haven't looked very hard for unique sound in a few decades.
Should be writing an essay, but fuck that. Listening to pink floyd is worth possibly failing a class. :3

@Interlunar8 The song was dedicated to Syd Barrett who went crazy due to drugs.
I am perfectly aware he was no longer in the band at the time of this album I never said he was.
Drugs were a big part of Syd's life and Syd was a big part of PF even after he left.
Perhaps, their experience with Syd affected them, but to say they never touched on the subject is naive.
Though I admit I can't find nearly as much as I thought. So I stand corrected on that point,

It's "Shine on you crazy diamond" not your* :P
Still this song is so perfect, magical and rad. I'd listen to this all day long.

There are some songs that can never be covered by any other band! And this shows how unique they are. This song is one of them...

@stanleyrr907 That's a very bold comment to post on a.....Pink Floyd video?? Uh...

I hate when people go and try to get thumbs up on their comment, its pretty dumb.
If you actually have something to say instead of anything that relates to the like/dislike bar, or justin beiber or other dumb things like that then its a comment.

@linksmola1 who's to decide what's dumb and what's not? I'm just saying...
