I actually had this story on a paper-like 45 record that came out of a Honeycomb cereal box. I was in first grade then and didn't understand the story at all, but I do now.
i've hired a story vary much like this only the man let the girl out and drove off when he saw she left her scarf so he went back to the house and told the women who opened the door the girl he gave a ride to left this in his care the women started to cry and said that's the scarf my daughter was buried with.
I still have my album from 1977 in perfect condition and play it ever year around Halloween time. My fave on it was the Tell Tale Heart. I read somewhere online that a bunch of Wade's master recordings were found in a water-logged dumpster after his death. What a shame.
@See918 It is implied that the ghost girl returned to her grave, taking his jacket with her (but leaving it at the foot of the grave). It serves as proof that the incident actually happened and was not merely the driver's imagination.
@jacegirl2 Traditionally it is believed that when someone receives a great scare, their hair turns white. You can see this in old cartoons, where a character will encounter something scary and his hair will fly straight up and turn white.
My grandparents had this album, and it scared the crap out of me so much when I heard it that I was afraid to go into the room with the record player. Certain stories still give me chills to this day, and that awful ghost moan....
I LOVE THIS LP!!! Still have it but it's all scratched up (have a poor recording on an old tape)--my favourite is The Signal Man. Love the "spooky sounds"! lol. Read a version of the Hitchhiker in Cerf's Famous Ghost Stories anthology (1944)
Hey, SHONNERDOTCOM: Three of these Wade Denning ghost stories were on the back of Post Honeycomb and Alphabits cereals in 1977 and 1978. "The Hitchhiker," "The Headless Horseman," and "The Miser's Gold." I had the latter, and played it to death! :-)
My sis and I had this album when we were really little, and this track scared the b'jezus out of us. I cannot believe I found it on YT decades later.

Oops. I meant 1977, I think. Honeycomb sounds like something I may have eaten back then.

Yup, me too. The cereal was Honeycomb :-). This is still a little spooky :-).
