  • great job --thanks

  • I've loved this song for a long time. Wish there was a better vid for it, Just because the song is old doesnt mean someone with editing skillz cant make a better one.

  • Dennis - I see something different everytime I watch this. This is a production - not a mere video copy of a concert - it's a work of art. You and Celli did a great job - and I will always keep this in my favorites. Today - I hear Clarence Clemons..... not surprising, I guess. :) TC

  • Congrats Saint on a job well done, even though it was done in SH..it could be alot of places down the shore, and I like how you put different aspects of shore life on it. Esp the scene where the couple walks by the family making a sand castle. Summer is over again here in 2011, and I miss it already ...Thanks for making this....

  • Soooooo cool!!! Oh man I felt chills down my spine, it's a fantastic production, congratulation brotha. Greetings from Spain! "The Rat lives" I just love it!!!

  • Always awesome ---

  • Awesome

  • man i hate bruce springsteen

people do his own songs better than him

he can write but i dont think hes musically talented

    Good job

  • dear mr saint, you got this just right, thanks for interpreting my thoughts

  • Brilliant! I was expecting some cheap photos shown to the tune. I was not expecting a visual interpretation, certainly not one this well done!

  • Thanks very much, it was worth the sweat &

hard work we put into making the video on a low budget. I appreciate you spending the time to watching it.

  • one of the most beautiful songs he has written .

  • Dreaming of " making out" under the boardwalks of summer...

  • Many thanks for posting and it was great all the best Liz

  • yeah I also agree with blujayway22, even if his early style wasnt as good as his later style

it doesn't make a difference he is still the BOSS

  • I agree with blujayway22

  • cgpalms , thank you very much

    Saint

  • any bruce is good bruce..I appreciate this,,some of his best..some people will bitch about anything..thanks saint

  • Thanks Very much Bluejayway

    Saint

  • Love the song but your video was too light and 80's, remember the song was released in 75. The song takes place on a rainy night in the city near the "Jersey state line", while you place much of it on the boardwalk and beaches on sunny days in Atlantic City. It just doesn't have the gritty night life feel it should have. The song was also quite muted and lacked its punch. Sorry.

  • great song and i guess decent video, butthis song is really not a complete and total love song you really really overplayed that aspect of it and seriously underplayed the more interesting aspects of the song

  • Heavy sigh....

    CMG

  • Thanks very much

    Dennis

  • my favorite Bruce song. Great video but the song seems a little muted but whos complaining?

  • Love it as usual,

    where you been?

  • what marucas? haha its been better but the boardwalk is kind of a dump now with all of the guidos and black overpopulating the place(sorry...its the truth) but thesaint52 definitely should have gotten steaks unlimited in a shot or two haha

  • wow great video man awesome and i loved seeing the marucas pizza on the seaside heights boardwalk my favorite...such a great song and Bruce is the Shakespeare of the 20th and 21st century "outside the streets on fire in a real death waltz between whats flesh and whats fantasy" that line just hits me every time

  • 30 yrs later this song still gets to me he;s the best poet this country has ever produced

  • "barefoot girl on the hood of a Dodge drinking warm beer in the soft summer rain" is one of my favorite lyrics ever.

  • His right to an opinion and having a platform from which to state it does not take away form the fact the Bruce is one of the best artists the country has produced. It also does not hide the emotion and energy he brings to his live performances!

  • bruce is the epitome, bruce is the elvis of the 70s-2000s, bob dylan was a preacher of politics, so was jimi hendrix.

  • actually bob dylan just wrote his songs as he saw things not in a political way

  • So he says. But he was one of the greatest political influences of his time.

  • I keep forgetting how good he is until I listen to him. From his first album til now.Great stuff.

  • This is exactly like the idea I had for a short film!!!!! GRR!

  • As usual - awe-inspiring.

  • Great song and video I think everyone interprets songs in their own way ,I have watched this video a number of times and I think it's very cool.

  • Still get a lump in my throat listening to this song! Thanks Bruce from a fellow Jersey Guy.

  • The piano part beginning at :47 is a blatant ripoff of Elton John's "Tiny Dancer". It's even in the same key (C).

That being said, I just saw "The Boss" this past Tuesday at The Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and he was fantastic! The only other time I've seen him live was back in 1985 at the L.A. Coliseum. The one negative from this past Tuesday night is that he didn't play a single song from "Born In The U.S.A."

  • I doubt that Bruce needs to rip anybody off. The man is a genius.

  • Yeah your right.I never noticed that.Allthough artists have always drawn inspiration form each other and inserted pieces of others work or pieces that sounded like others work into their own.Inspiration doesnt come from nowhere.

  • yeah. being in the same key? oh well, who cares.

  • For me, the musical interlude is as good as anything written by Bach, Beethoven, or Wagner. The only comparable thing in rock, I think, is Leyla.

  • Leyla? I totally disagree. Bruce's Jungleland doesn't repeat itself ad nauseum.

  • Takes my breath away -- again, and forever.

Thanks, Dennis. Excellent job. The Rat lives :) and so, do we.

    Christine

  • Great video and song five stars I agree with erockmysocks

I think mikenee123has been smelling to much glue out of a bag, must be a kid

  • this is hard to watch because it is sooo corny..... but awesome song though

  • this is great

    great video

    great song

    five stars

  • this is amazing the video really suits te aong i fricken love the boss

  • Awesome video. I too had forgotten how great this song is. I have a question though...does the rat die? I didn't see anything in the video that would have confirmed either way. Although "the rat lives" is pretty clear.

  • Excellent - makes my heart beat, Dennis

    CMG

  • Great song and great video.

  • i had no idea there was a video.. its a great song!

  • There isnt.

    This is a fan video.

  • Impresionante

  • bruce springsteen always reminded me of the movie "eddie and the cruisers"

he basically is the real life version of eddie wilson

  • I love your interpretation .. yeah, the sax solo is awesome. The whole song is all that and more... and your portrayal of the story, is, well, Dennis, incredible.

    Christine

  • Probably one of the finest songs written in the last 50 years,1st time i've seen the video.A whole new experience in loving this song/music.I simply love it,thank you Mr Springsteen and your band of merry men,the "earth shakin',love makin',viagra takin" E Street Band.WOW.

  • This is awesome. Isn't this what music is all about? Letting people interpret it for themselves? Manfred Mann had a different take on Blinded by the light and that turned out okay. I hope others enjoy this as much as I do!

  • OMFG! this is AWESOME!!!

  • TOP

  • awesome,song,sax & video

  • not big on the video, but i love the song

  • The barefoot Jersey Girl was way better than that chick the Rat was with at first.

  • That is by far...bar none...two middle fingers to everything else...the best sax solo in the history of rock. Let's see those jazz geeks whip off something like that. Good luck, chuck. Clarence is the dude.

  • Well Mr. Kent, I would agree that this is the best of the Boss's songs, and I am a huge fan of Clemons, but check out the solo by Sonny Rollins as he performs with Leonard Cohen Cohen's "Who By Fire". Then let's talk about what is the best sax solo ever. So type in Who By Fire and you'll think you died and went to heaven.

  • Not a hugh fan, but this is his best song ever!

  • The best sax solo ever. ace video and the song by the boss, what more could you want?

  • Ok. you put some time into make this but on your next try, remember this. The song is from the 70's, so use the 70's not the 80's when you do costumes and hair. We, and no one wore leather at or on the Boards in that erra. I know, I was there. I remember see Bruce at the SatleLite Lounge in 75. But it is his Best song ever so thanks for the post

  • Pure class

  • The Jungle in Toronto in the early 80s was a poor black neighborhood on Lawerence west of Bathurst where we used to buy pot.

  • one of the best sax solos of all time

  • I always thought of this as Bruce's most cinematic song, and its lyrics conjure up a whole set of visuals with each listen.

  • Nice video. Stolen song. I think you did a lot of hard work on the video. Why not come up with your own tune?

  • Is that sea side Hights boardwalk? Hell yea

  • Great song, Film, music interpretation, story,

    pain, love, music, death, survival.

    Awesome.

  • Great song. Poor video.

  • Forgot how much I liked this song.

  • you better mean you can hardly cuz its awesomee you fool!

  • LOL.. Awesome, inspring and beautiful.

    C

  • Terrific.Congratulations on a wonderful interpretation of a classic song. Perhaps a little too literal sometimes (switchblade) but that would be trying to find fault. Very very good, many thanks.

  • Best sax solo ever!

  • Hey Steven Seagal is in this video

  • I agree with wvben this should've been the offical video , It looks professionally shot The director gives us his interpretation and puts it into a short movie, while telling a story. awesome

  • This should've been the official video.

  • damn listen to that sax gezz

  • Ok, I really didnt understand the video. can someone explain? Did the video accurately portray what Bruce is really singing about?

  • Heavy sigh, smile on the face :)

    Excellent, Dennis Lee

  • Wow..I, too am speechless...where has this been hiding all this time? Have you sent a copy to Bruce?

    This was amazing!

  • I would never have thought I would see this song turned into a short movie. You did a great job. Professionally shot, edited and story line. It captures your vision of the moment in an inspiring way. (and the late 80s ; ) Is "Meeting Across the River" next?

  • That was freakin awesome. It really captured the spirit of the song and what Bruce was writing about at the time. Great job!

  • speechless ................... Beautiful

  • great job

  • Very good vid. The Story is great an d the Song is made for this!

  • Mega. Set it in the mid-70s and it would be perfection. Or put another way, if Bruce had written this song in the mid to late 80s, the video would have looked a lot like this! West Side Story transposed to a different decade. Great effort. Sir Bruce should consider employing you, pal.

  • OK comments. as good as s stairway?

  • suprised no comments yet. THE BOSS

  • A brilliant American anthem. Nobody writes songs like Bruce or puts arrangements together like him. He is truly one of a kind...a true American original. God Bless Sony for signing him and letting him make this wonderful music even thought his early anthems weren't commercial successes. It's brilliant music.

  • Werd. If I may borrow a phrase, "they don't write em like that anymore". These new guys can never compare to guys like Bruce.

  • I totally agree, I was just saying the same thing to my wife.

  • love it, as usual,

    etc., etc., etc.

  • I always thought the "soft refusal... and then surrender" line referred to the barefoot girl surrendering her womanhood to the rat... never occurred to me it could be the rat to a gang.

  • Don't let this guys video change the way you look at the song. That is his opinion. You can have another one.

  • Great video! Especially love the kid at the end spraypainting... I've been dating him for 9 yrs, I was starting to think this was a family fable. So happy it's been posted!

  • Kudos, as usual

  • made all the hairs on my body stand up

  • I saw something I hadn't seen before. I LOVE this video

Hey, D - got my fix today :)

  • To Glock ... Interpretation is in the eye of the individual.

I'm very touched by this video, and appreciate the work of the producer! It is dark, it is troublesome, but yet, it is bittersweet. Great Job, Dennis.

  • Every bit as excellent............ as before.

  • Hey Dennis,

Watching this video is on my list of things to do every day. Hope my comments weren't inappropriate.

The music is in my head constantly, now.

  • i forgot...to say....i cried my eyes out! good job!

  • Thanks A lot Making This Video....Its The Most beautiful video ive ever seen. i think you got it all right. i just love it. i watch it every day.

Great Job Man. I've Seen many good music videos but i think this is one of my absolute favorites.

  • Thanks very much I am glad you enjoyed it.

    Dennis

  • I cried

  • Great video.. So what happens? Do they stay together or what? I just love the song and can't even listen to the lyrics. The song gets to me so much, esp the sax. I never actually had a moment where I almost cried because of a song, as such as this.

Great video, it really did a good job with the song. I like it a lot, good for you man.

  • That would have been great for Bruce Springsteen's Video Anthology! Thanks anyway.

  • Ace song, especially the sax. interval.

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    *****

  • cool! Where were the beach scenes filmed? It couldn't be Asbury Park 1989 but it does capture the feeling of AP circa 1971 (the year I left for college) - Thanks for posting this. PS I run the YouTube Group E Street - I'd like to have you join up and post this. - Bill

  • Great, 5 and faved.

Thanks for sending the link, Bill!

  • the beach scenes were shot in seaside heights u can tell by the boardwalk and the ferris wheel

  • Awesome video. Just plain awesome. YOu want an actor and a decent car for the next video?

  • High dramedy. Can't say I ever envisioned The Rat riding the bumper cars...Can you do Meeting Across the River as a prequel?

  • I would love to , I almost did that first , If I can put the funds together I would consider doing it this summer, I have also considered doing a few from the wild, the innocent & the e stret shuffle. Thanks for watching

    Dennis

  • What texture. i can feel the ocean and smell the streets. Excellent direction and cinematography. Highly recommended. You did that in 89? Where ya been hiding?

  • It's strange, it predates the Jesus of Suburbia video by over 10 years, yet they are very very similar. Especially one of the last scenes with "Rat Lives" and "Jesus of suburbia + bloody hand print". Cool video!
