@berto41 Wow! I did a classical greek dance to this piece 10 years ago. I never knew that this was to evoke Dionysian energy when I picked the piece, but chose to be a Satyr dancing.....Beethoven really knew how to tell a story then.....................I actually came looking for this on here to see if anybody can explain the time signature to me, any ideas? xx
someone tried to compare Kleiber to Karajan. Absolutely impossible.Karajan was like the Volkwagon mechanic that followed a prescribed manual. Very Germanic, lack luster and precise. Kleiber exhibits the emotion of the score, in fact, watch him, he IS the score. Like everything in life too quickly over but the legacy will endure thanks to people like xedos... who like Kleiber cares enough to give the very best. Thanks
@maestrowick@FrankBrescher123 you know, I'm probably being wildly pretentious, but I'd rather watch Kleiber conduct in silence than listen to Karajan's rendition now. It's... beautiful. Better than ballet, in my opinion.
The 6 "dislikes" for this video are the 6 most ridiculous people in the world! This is amazing!!! Carlos Kleiber is one of the greatest conductors to ever live!! RIP Maestro
294 views for Ansermet vs. 107,619 for Carlos Kleiber? To my fellow classical music fans: don't "buy by the label!" This is not to diminish this fine performance, but the entire Ansermet/ORTF Beethoven 7 can stand with the best. Be warned, however, that the ORTF winds do not play nearly as well as the VPO's.
wow, movement 3 rocked me, the intro with a lot of tampani use is amazing! the tampani gives the sound a majestic feel that you don't get today with music, as well as the cellos <3
the more I see it, among all the great conductors, Kleiber has indeed probably one of the most beautiful conducting techniques ever...you don't need to be a Celibidache to be a good conductor!
The happiest Beethoven music..In a school for handicapped children, they dance to this piece. If you believe in magic, your believe would be confirmed if you could see them.
For me the Presto and Allegro con brio from Beethoven's Symphony Nr. 7 is the most exciting symphonic work from all classical masterpieces; this is a kind of compendium what symphonic orchestra can give to a listener: contrasts - piano and forte, strings, timpani enrty, the brass, tempo and mood changes, and last but not least easy ear-catching tunes.
It's so bright, light, energetic and spinning and full of joy piece.
You're so wrong here - and perhaps your misspelling inadvertently gives YOU away as the problem, not the music. But if you insist, try Karajan's later (third) rendition of the nine. The orchestra members are allowed much more latitude, individually. For myself, Beethoven's work will always transcend the vagaries of individual conductors and performers. Just let it be played in time and it becomes - timeless! Not that comparative ratings are without any value, just that Beethoven is NEVER boring!

With a conductor like that it's no wonder the musicians are looking at their music and not at him...
I could just be missing the genius, but to me it looks like he's fooling around up on the podum while the musicians play, not exactly following his directions.
Indeed, watch him closely. Kleiber was one of the greatest maestros of the last century. Their eyes are up quite a lot, too.
He knows every bit of that score and it shows. It seems to me their following his directions quite well. Look at how he conducts and listen. Kleiber could bring out the best in any orchestra and he often conducted the best orchestras.
A common misundestanding of the role of the conductor. While indeed playing live a conductor serves as the bridge between the audience and the orchestra, interpreting the music, the real work of the maestro is the months of arrangements, practice and preparation with the orchestra before the performace itself. Like a football manager, if you will.

The average listener gets no understandig of the music at this fast tempo. These folks perform for other musicians and for the musicologists, who told them to be that fast.
i totaly dissagree. It just sounds good. If it sounds good, who cares? Besides, musicians are like cooks, once they make their pieces of art, they care only about what their audience think about it, and about how well they performed in contrast with their other perfomances. TRUST ME, I AM a musician.
@CorinChellberg Normally, comments received for "TRASH" from "experienced CONDUCTORS" like... perhaps YOU(!) are carefully reserved and ANALIZED so we (the ones who know less than you about MUSIC) can read, digest and LEARN from "comments coming from somebody like you (!) who is a "Real connaisseur" of third-class carnival "musique"..., as the one that you and your family know.
Allez-y-vous fair cuire an oef, morceau de merde! You were in the WRONG spot...! By the way, what is a "podum"?
@LombanaClaudio First of all, hilarious comment, thank you. Now then, my comment was made over a year ago, but I stand by it.
To address your silly accusations:
I never claimed to be a conductor, experienced or otherwise. It's spelled "analyzed." I never claimed to know more about music than you or anyone else. I never claimed to be a connoisseur (you misspelled that too) of anything. Are you calling Beethoven "third-class carnival 'musique'" or did you have no point at all?
@LombanaClaudio Further, what does my family have to do with this?
Now, I have a decent understanding of French, but I'm not familiar with the meaning of "go cook an egg", though I did get the affectionate name at the end there. What do you mean I "was in the WRONG spot"? You don't know where I was at all.
And to answer your question, the podium is the platform he's standing on.
In conclusion, you are an amusing, angry little man, and I hope your English rhetoric improves with time.
@CorinChellberg Dear Corin; It is not "connoisseur", it is "connaisseur" which comes from French and it means a person who is an expert -connaitre, etre connu, avoir connu, et plusieurs d'autres choix par rapport au verbe "connaitre", mais peut- etre... je vien de perdre la guerre avec toi.!
I am not upset with at you at all; on the contrary.! But, it takes a LOT of knowledge in conducting / musique to be able to "criticize" Mr Kleiber. And by the way, I am "not little" (I am 6'2 and fit)
I agree with chopper0. This has real energy, it swings! Not that heavy Karajan double-winds stuff. What lovely wind playing at the Assai meno presto. True joy from the best...Carlos Kleiber!
as I told you, this was a great experience, I attended this performance in Amsterdam. The (Royal) Concertgebouw Orchestra is conducted by Carlos Kleiber, leader Theo Olof. The orchestra is one of worlds best and so is the late conductor.
I actually like Karajan better... it's a bit slower and more "solemn" (maybe I didn't get the right word...). I guess it is a matter of taste? I am very curious to hear why do you think Kleiber "blows" Karajan - maybe I am missing something.
Wonderful rendition. Just how I wanted to hear it! Thanks for uploading it.

I deeply adore this movement, its art, joy and life.
Though I have to admit that Kleibers interpretation, is just from the first impression feels a bit to hectic to me.
I personally like Soltis version with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra from 75 best so far. Lighter and livlier than Karajan but slower than both.

It's strange the way this movement has no coda. It ends as if to say THAT'S-THE-END-OF-IT. My favourite Beethoven symphony.
