It can be nice to make assumptions/affirmations to help appear as though you're listening more, but you are still making far too many assumptions. Let the client decide what he thinks of the situation, don't state it for him.

i have a question! how did the interviewr know he had a problem with diabetes?? new to this...how would you bring this subject up?
