Some say the first "New Age" band was Shadowfax. What a unique band. I was involved in their music from the early stages. On Odd get Even The song "Her dress hangs there ought to be titled "Elepahnts march your Street. Check it out.
At Berkley there should be class on their music. Chuck Greenberg RIP
What kills me is how dead on these guys are. You play this live track and a track from "Odd Get Even" and I challenge you to find a significant difference.
I've been listening Shadowfax long time ago their music feeds my heart and spirit when I need inspiration, the violinist Charly Bisarat one of the former members is actually playing with the band of Strunz and Farah.
Shadowfax is a great band from Papua New Guinea, it shows the diversity of influences it has. You can tell they're inspired by music from Simon Bolivar to William Shakespare.
One thing I learned from them is to accept music, and not to deny it. How can you deny math and not accept math?
Like facets on the sacred crystal of life, each one unique and beautiful in it's own way, some music, by the nature of it's essence, human and divine... Just remains...magic
timminananda yes , Stu Nevitt passed away on Mar. 15,2008 at his home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, of complications from type 1 diabetes and heart disease <:( It was in Stu's Illinois farmhouse in 1972 where the members of Shadowfax began as a group. After the group stopped recording and touring in 1995 due to the death of Chuck Greenberg, Nevitt continued to perform and record, most recently producing and releasing his first solo project, The Marion Kind"
my mom used to put this music on for me as a kid at nighttime. It brings back so many memories and it's very relaxing. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Scott Cassu on piano is awesome, they are part of Windham Hill records I believe, try watching a DVD called Waters Path, it came out in the late eighties, great stuff, a lot of SF!
This has to be later than 1987, the second and final time that I saw them (in Dallas; first time was in Cleveland in 1983). When I saw them in Dallas, G.E. Stinson was still with them. G.E. later played a lot with LA percussionist Alex Cline, which I had first known about in late 1989.
Who is the guitarist in this version of the group? He does not look familiar...
I was also to see Shadowfax open for Jan Hammer in early 1976(!) in Detroit, but I was snowed out. Any reports of that gig?
@russumm1 The guitarist is Andy Abad. This is from their "Live" album, made not long before Chuck Greenberg died. You can still find the video of the concert floating around if you look. It's worth getting.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Shadowfax will always be one of my favorite groups of all time. Sigh, BillyRayDrums, I am so sorry that Stu Nevitt passed away, that makes me so sad, seeing as Chuck Greenberg is gone to music heaven also!
I never knew some of their players passed away...collected their Cd's, I play them when I want to feel peace...everything is in total harmony with Universe here....great, great music....thank you all.
Yeah, I know! Their is DVD called Windham Hill in Concert or something. It features Shadowfax as one of the groups, but I remember seeing some PBS Special a long time ago as a kid that was awesome. I wish THAT was on DVD too!
some of you know the name of this kind of flute at minute number 2 ????

Will always be top 3 bands. Seen them twice live. 86 & 87. Seen them with Montreux. Great musical bands of the 80's.
