  • I like the fact that this video is about intolerance, and people are arguing about whether intolerance is okay or not. Umm... IRONY!!!!

  • Ignore the hateful messages and accept intolerance and move on to somewhere where people will be accepting. As for the second question, all people may use their rights however they wish so long as it does not come into conflict with another individual's rights.

  • i say they sould be left alone nobody wants to wacth hatees hate its get boring and if someone waches it then the should ckick the thumbs down button

  • You don't take them down.

    You ignore them.

  • I guess the best way to be fair on both sides is to give the intolerant people an outlet for their shenanigans that Isn't hurting or disturbing others. Everyone has a right to their opinion. I don't however think they have the right to attack( in any sense of the word) others because of it. Every case of vicious intolerance that i have seen spawns directly from ignorance or personal trauma. Those who have nothing better to do then to go around posting nasty things on others pages are pathetic

  • To stay strong enough to live your own life, sharing it with who pose a mutual benefit, giving and taking (help) when needed, and standing up for yourself. I once heard that one thing that should never be watered down is one's reaction to someone's deliberate disrespect. You have just as much right to live and breathe as anyone else. It's important to remember to realize that. I find it easiest by reminding people of their value and right to be. Things are working out pretty well this way.

  • That's why it's important to plan for the future, but live in the moment.

  • Then again... there's so much ruin that can be prevented. Unfortunately, not everyone in this world agrees. So many people are set in their ways, I think, because it works for them. So many hateful words escape because whoever is saying them has never experienced the pain they can inflict. Or maybe they have, and the don't choose--or are ignorant of their choice--to stop it there. I dunno. If there's one thing I'm certain of, it's that nothing is certain.

  • I like the question, GDProphetXVII. I'm not sure where I stand. I believe in equality and a right to expression, which isn't to say that I can go and do whatever I want to whomever I want. I'm pretty sure that the U.S. Constitutions has a saying about unalienable rights... the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. My feelings are that one should simply not infringe on these same rights of another. It's kind of live and let live, I guess. Who says there has to be action?

  • Go find yourself a manly women seriously. The Main of point of Marriage is to signify a union between a man and a women who together will make children . you cant make a child in the same sex it is against Laws of Nature and Science, God.

  • @benelijah12 Which god?

  • @jeibal02 not the one man created

  • @benelijah12 So none of them?

  • @jeibal02 well if you want to get technicals a man living on the earth the 3rd planet of the sun. not man's god. I talking about the gods of the aliens who lives trillions of miles away from us. those gods. the god who created the aliens that god. or the gods who are the federal judges of our country. a god is a magistrate or a ruling judge. not some stupid thing people bow down and kill thier children. dont look at the christian god he stop abraham

  • @benelijah12 U lost me man, lol...but ok...as long as ur not talking about the god of "Abraham" Im fine

  • @jeibal02 why is this god of Abraham suppose to be a loving all mercy god who will let everybody live without judgement. not the god i know.

  • @benelijah12 Im confused...epically..lol

  • @jeibal02 okay the jesus we see today ,as god if as the trinity, is an effiminate skinny white guy with blues eyes and brown hair. the historical jesus is semitic dark skin colored with dark brown eyes. hard working, pretty built of a guy. he chopped, lifted, pulled he own wood/logs for his carpenter job. so in other words Jesus is a hard working mexican, well with out the mexican mustache and origin.

  • @benelijah12 LOL!!! Love it

  • @fruitycunt hey, wanna explain your logic?

  • @jamesscott1015 sure why not help you out.. gay fucking is unproductive..it's like heroin hit perhaps? it might feel great for fags but its damaging to society and a quick road to premature death. fags cant breed and you have more disease mental health and other problems than humans. save oxygen and other resources and suicide.

  • @fruitycunt ever think we already have enough people? why suggest suicide? they are people, too. mother's sons and daughters,

  • @fruitycunt No it is not. Religion is the problem. It is sexist, racist, homophobic, malevolent, sadistic, intolerant, bigoted, prejudicial, biased, and mind numbingly ignorant on so many levels. Only when religion is eradicated in the worst way possible, just to show those idiots the pain that they have cause by throwing it back at them, will the human race have progressed. Only then can we call the world a "better place." And you my friend will die off with the rest of the ignorant swine.

  • @PoliMeim im not gay so i wont be dying off with the ignorant faggot swine .. i will be passing my DNA and my values to the next generation of free thinkers and free talkers whildt you will still be fixated with unproductive male to male anal sex and will contract AIDS and rott from from the inside out like so many butt fuckers before you.. if you want to link religion with faggotry you feel free.. they are both stupid .. you must feel right at home..!

  • Your shirt is cute :)

  • I belive that people should have the right to post there views even if hatefull but there should be a line, for example if u disagree with homosexualtiy feel free to put the view "I dont like gays for whatever reason" thats okay, but the line is when you start to insalt, theaten or hurt people because of ur views, so the comment "Fuckin queers, they should set up death camps for them" that would be over the line and not allowed because its a very hurtfull, upsettin and scary view. 1st=Ok 2nd=Bad

  • I think it's important to know why someone thinks different than you and to share your opinion and expect them to listen to you is hypocritical. but there is times where freedom of speech is limited, like if you moved a group of people into an act of violence your responsible for the injuries caused, or if your taking away someone else's freedom. The right to swing my fist ends where the other man's nose begins. Oliver Wendell Holmes

  • Just say fuck it. Dont give a damn about another opinion cause it dont mean or should'nt mean shit to you

  • I always felt there was a difference, or perhaps a thin line to some people--and I can respect that--between throwing someone in jail for free speech and directly confronting hate. And If the messages are physically threatening, or considered psychological violence, persons within that arena have the right to exclude them, to make others safe, feel safe.

  • You rise above it. You never compromise and make them right.

  • well I got a death threat, and reported it, but doubt was taken seriously, cause my address and name was all fake. But haters hate, sometimes I think they need a xantax and supplier ran out. I dunno.

  • why be gay, you only get to screw two holes.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, isn't that the entire point of love? The holes in which you can stick it in...

    Such.a.deep.human.being.

  • We listen to them if we happen upon them. Then we comment back and tell them how wrong we think they are. And most impotantly: we don't sink to their level while doing it.

Free speach and courtesy are the way to go. :)

    //Mikey from Sweden

  • How about we just ignore the hate messages? O_O

  • good one, that's what i do.

  • I view it as everyone has a right to their opinion but if they can't back up what they think then that immediately invalidates what they say.

Also, there comes a point where an opinion becomes flat out hate speech and I have personally have seen some pretty horrible things said. There is no need for that kind of nonsense.

  • My belief is that we have to be tolerant of people's opinions no matter what they are however there is a limit

if someone will not tolerate my opinon, my beliefs, who i am, i do not feel the need to tolerate theirs, i respect everyone i meet initially until they prove they don't deserve it thats what i think

i also think freedom of speech yields its priority to people's right to feel safe, safety>speech everytime

  • is there a rule that u have to watch every video on youtube? ffs who cares i even haven't seen any.

  • h & m...they have it in all colors! :-)

  • omgggg i soo love that shirt where'd you get it :D

  • i say screw the hate mail and make another video just to push it in there face*

  • ur hot ;)

  • The way I see it, if we are intolerant towards intolerance, than we are becoming worse than the foe we claim to be better than. Hatred has existed on this earth for a very long time, it will never completely go away. All you can do is band together against it. That being said, if someone speaks about physical harm towards a particular individual, then it should be removed, because then you're crossing the line between free speech and harassment. That's my view.

  • I think this is a fascinating question that we do, indeed, all need to address. Although I personally always choose tolerance I'm beginning to think that we should not be tolerant of intolerance. Of course the only tools we have to respond to intolerance are communicative. Of course people are entitled to an intolerant view- but we do not have to accept it.

  • i want to lash out at and destroy everything that i don't understand.

  • o fuk yea

  • I've noticed that certain outgroups who whine about discrimination can be very intolerant of other people. This is hypocrisy, and this should not be tolerated.

  • I agree totally.

How can I respect other cultures, when I don't even respect my own culture? Culture=shit in my opinion.

Multiculturalism is a lie formed to help bring about a new world order.

I'd rather have a world full of hate and racism than one full of false and hypocritical "tolerance" for a select group of people.

  • Sorry, that was ment to be a reply to PETA.

Nice video, by the way <3

  • Some of those hateful responders are just doing it to be jokers and they're trying to stir up shit anyway they can. Some of them make a hobby of it. Anyone who has read more than 3 books in their lifetime generally has enough knowledge and understanding to not be so judgemental of others. You keep up the good work fella...and best wishes for a great life.

  • yeah of course people butcher everything.you know how you deal with it and im sorry to say it.cancell the site or take away the right to say things..i myself am intollarant.i have ALOT of piercings(20) in my face and im covered with ink too but im sick of people saying what they want.good post man i know what you mean.keep posting!

  • And Gorilla, most of your comments don't make much sense. I still can't figure out why you called me meek, is that an insult? I think you need to read up on the definition of meek. My favorite part by far is where you wrote, "I do not think that intolerance should be tolerated." Isn't that being intolerant of intolerance. You both just don't like it when people don't agree with your lifestyle. BTW, I can assure you that I have thought it through on my own and two men having sex is revolting.

  • If you find it revolting than don't fucking do it! Honey, get over it, if you don't like it, you don't have to do it. I have a question now: why do you think people are gay?

  • Why do I think they are gay? Honestly, confused affection and lust. They indulge in unnatural temptations and then convince themselves it is okay and then that it is right and that is just the way they are.

  • Why would someone CHOOSE to be hated, beat up, and treated like shit? Being gay is no choice, it's as natural as being straight. God made us the way we are and loves us regardless. And I find comfort in that, that no matter how many people spew out hatred and intolerence He still loves me...and YOU as well. That's right, no matter how much hate speech you use, He does. And, also, feels sorry for you, as do I.

  • I hate to disappoint you but nothing is unnatural. Think of the word. Unnatrual... It means not of nature. Man is natural. Sex is natural. Same-sex sex is seen in nature. Why then isn't it natural for two people to do it? You could say that you don't feel comfortable with it. Or that you don't like it. Or that you think it's gross. Or whatever. But the bottom line is that you add the precursor "I think". Neither you nor anyone has the right to dictate naturalness or unnaturalness.

  • Really good point. Plus, if it happens naturally (that is it doesn't have to be forced), who is to say that it is unnatural?

If so, why would it happen so NATURALLY LOL

  • Gorilla and CrazyFreak, both of you have flawed logic. First of all, Crazyfreak, you said that when people say negative things about others it is just because they are insecure with that thing. That may be true in a few cases but not all. If it were, we would always be the thing we hate. If I don't like murders or terrorists, does that mean I secretly want to be a murderer or terrorist? No.

  • People have the right to free expression of opinion within reason. For instance PETA here, he/she can tell me whatever they want about their opinions of gay people, however PETA cannot tell me with a baseball bat or a gun. Tolerance vs. intolerance? I do not think that intolerance should be tolerated, but there are acceptable ways of dealing with intolerance. For instance smashing PETA's teeth in with a bat would not be an acceptable way to demonstrate my disdain for his/her intolerance.

  • I think that people who say something negative about something else usually have insecurities with the thing, or person they are making fun of. Like when someone says "I hate gays!" They are most likely gay themselves and just in denial of it. I'm living proof of that lol.

  • The important thing to remember is that when someone says something hateful, it's more about them than it is about you. If somebody comments about your lifestyle then they are trying to express unhappiness in their own life. People can't give others what they can not give themselves. To me, whenever I see someone say something hateful it's like they r revealing a weakness about themselves. Accepting, tollerant, and loving is our natural state of being, anything else is resistance to who we are.

  • i agree

  • Thanks.

  • How is it the most disgusting thing known to mankind? Any love is fine, it's your hatred you should watch out for.

  • I said it is one of them, there are obviously worse things. Any love is fine? Sure you can care for someone of the same sex, but that doesn't mean that you should have sex with them. I really care about my dog, but that doesn't mean I am going to embrace bestiality.

  • The difference between a non-consenting partner and a consenting partner of the same sex is massive. The dog does not consent to have sex, but my lover can. On another note, do you have sex with people of the same gender? Obviously not. So why should my sex life disgust you so much? It is not your problem. I would enjoy an explanation as to why it concerns you so much.

  • Because it shows the degradation of the world we live in. It concerns me that people are willing to openly commit such obviously lewd acts without any remorse or embarrassment. It will really concern me if you can say that you think there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. If so, I feel very sorry for you.

  • I don't want your pity. I'd rather have your hatred than your pity, because at least you think I've earned your hatred, but your pity...you deserve pity more than I do. Thanks for the thoughts we've shared, but I have to say you lead a sheltered life if you see homosexuality and sexual relationships as wrong. I feel sorry for you.

  • PETA, You don't hate gay people because they are proud of it. You hate gay people because the only way you can define who you are as a person is by your opposition to what you are not. People like you sadly are not self-made people, but rather like husks that spout off the opinions of other more educated people than you, and poorly might I add. You have neither the wit nor the intelligence to think an idea through let alone present one in an intelligent and logical manner. You are meek.

  • are you fucking retarted? we are born this way.. it is just who we are and why the fuck do u care? it is our life, let people live their own lives and just leave us alone if you think it is gross... if you saw something you dont like you dont approach it, you just walk away.. now just walk away..!

  • I just thought of something... Maybe if these hate speech people elaborated and gave insight into why they hate then that could be a valid argument. Otherwise u really aren't showing ur intelligence.

  • Everyone has the right to put forth a comment but where do you draw the line between free speech and hate speech. No matter what you do you impose on someone's liberty. My advice is to ignore it. Your a lot better than them anyway. Keep posting your videos they are great and insightful.

  • There will always be hate. When people hate on a person just because of how they are [born], then that means they were raised ignorant. You keep doing what you do and keep standing up for what you believe in. Trust me, those who hate on you will never stand as tall as you! --I just subscribed--

  • free speech is a two way streak, its a chance to open dialouge between the pro and cons of any subject..... ignorance just shows a lack of culture and education...

    keep up the great vids

  • idiot!

  • YouTube is a jungle. There are supposed to be 'standards' but actually there aren't any.

There are millions of violations on YT of any decent community 'standards'.

Only the strong can survive YT.

  • I think that even if you intolerate intolerence it would not make a difference anyway. Unfortunently there will lways be close minded people posting hateful comments no matter what you do about it. The best thing you can do is to just not care what they think and just ignore them.

  • I have been a loyal viewer of your videos. You have a great personality and wonderful views. Thank you for all of your videos. They certainly help me out.

As for the message on this video. I feel that freedom of speech has a balance of bad and good. I personally can't stand the negative comments from people that like to attack gay ppl on youtube, myspace or wherever they do online.

Thank you again for your videos

  • I think that on a private site like youtube, civic rights are irrelevant. This is an international community on Youtube, and an individual's right to expression is defined by the website's policies rather than any system of law. So, I really think that those people who feel the need to call every one of us gay people fags in video comments really are not keeping within the spirit of the community guidelines, and I don't think it should be allowed. This is supposed to be a welcoming site.

  • According to the youtube guidelines "We encourage free speech and defend everyone's right to express unpopular points of view. But we don't permit hate speech (speech which attacks or demeans a group based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, veteran status, and sexual orientation/gender identity)" (look up community guidelines at the bottom of each video page)

  • In the public world, I would say that one has a right to express their views publicly provided that it does not harm another group or person. Because everyone has a right to not bear that intolerance as well. One person's right to free speech ends where another person's rights are abridged.

  • If there is a clear and present danger, then free speech is voided. The classic example: a person in a theatre jumps up and yells "FIRE" everyone runs out and some of them get hurt, that's not legal. Otherwise, people should be able to say whatever they want.

To not tolerate intolerance is just inspiring someone to not tolerate you.

If they infringe upon your rights through expression then it's not okay, otherwise, it's his or her right to say anything.

  • Your rights end where mine begin! You have a right to speak your mind but I also have the right to feel safe!

  • nice to see u back on youtube..okay...its hard too say....cause peoples right too free speach and their oppinions they deserve..but when it comes down too them being hateful or mean...I think that goes too far..cause there are also rights for peoples...rights?? LOL..adn with hateful messages I believe people should just write back somethin that isn't hateful back too them..but makes a point in showin why they are being hateful and hopefully open their eyes up a bit....

  • you bring up a good point. personally, im bi and had someone else very close to me come out to my mother without even hearing it from me first. I think tolerating intolerance is the way to go. Its unhypocritical, and i think shows strength to be the better person and just let the haters be haters. just take comfort in knowing that you have a fuller life because of what you know and that they are probably miserable because of their own ignorance. <3 cpk

  • i believe every1 should have the same rights to do and say what they please, BUT there has to be equality first, in rights and laws b4 we start treating eachother with respect

  • No matter what we do their will be people who agree or disagree and they will let their info out their. It may be free speach but their are laws people have to go by in the world, and should be on youtube too. People do leave some hatefull, disrespectful comments that should not be posted. If I were to say some of the stuff that people post I could be put into jail.

  • I think the worst way to deal with these sorts of comments is to give them an audience. When you ignore them, eventually they will stop, and hopefully learn from the inanity.

The question of whether or not Free Speech comes above somebody's personal safety reminds of the recent Brigitte Bardot controversy. There was an enormous debate about that on an internet community I frequently go to, some saying she should have the right to say whatever, others saying her racism is dangerous. Tricky...

  • I'd say that if you can argue, i'm ready to discuss. But if you just hate ie gays, just because your best friend does, and if i ask you why you hate them, and you answer "GAYLOVER!" it's, to me, a sign that the person is weak. But if you can argue, it's okay to say what you mean. I dunno about the US, but in Denmark there is the "discrimination paragraph" which restricts the freedom of speech and might put you in prison. And i think its 100% fair to have those kinds of restrictions..!

  • Well, it depends. I delete/ignore comments like "You suck!" completely and don't even think about them. But if the haters explain their thoughts and post a bit more then just few words, I do tolerate their opinion and maybe try to discuss with them.

  • I think this video is very right we should't have to put up with it and that it should stop who gives the people the right to cut other people down because we're diffrent like we should beable to have the same rights as everyone else in this world gay, straight, bi, who cares what we are it's who we are that count's not what we are...

  • that shirt is ugly, never wear it again. k? thx bye! :D

  • lol, straight to the point, but right, I think ;)

  • Tolerance of tolerance is a good thing just as intolerance of intolerance is as well.

Now, maybe I'm just having a bad day, but there is no way I am going to sit here, and say that the kind of people who hold up signs that say "God hates fags" should get to say that kind of stuff. Hate has always been a part of this country. Undeniably gays are the new blacks, are the new immigrants, are the new landless whites, but this needs to end.

    It needs to stop. Now.

  • To codeman463. You used one of the usual gay activist tricks by using an unfair and inapplicable example. That of someone viciously attacking and "writing off" the individual rather than disagreeing with their behavior. This is non-typical of those who oppose such behavior, and a way to stifle them by lumping the two together.

  • ok, first of all, half of the stuff you said, you said without using real words.

That said, i did nothing more than what you did, lump people together. In your case, it was "drunk drivers, pedophiles, overeaters, sexists, homosexual behavior, polygamists, & people who don't buckle their seat belts." (I fixed some spelling)

This is all I can respond to at this time because your writing is, to say the least, a little convoluted.

Learn to write, then please clarify.

  • As much as I hate to say it I think that people who hold up signs that say "God hates fags" have just as much right as I do to hold up a sign that says "God loves me (and every other fag)" I may not agree with their views but if they are censured when will I be censured. And that is what scares me.

  • to krazykid1168 (not the other guy):

A valid concern, but just think, would any group of disenfranchised people (women, landless men, blacks, immigrants, etc,) have ever gained equality and acceptance if the general public tolerated hateful speech? Anyways, violent speech typically gets people killed, just think of Matthew Shepard, and learn from history.

  • yeah. i totally understand and that really scares me. i don't want it to be tolerated and so i'm really stuck in the middle. i've bee on the wrong end of hateful words and it scares me a lot.

  • If I announced that the place of a woman is at home, in the kitchen, barefoot, and pregnant, I would be lynched.

If I called a black man by the n word, a woman a bitch, they would take exception to that, and so would society.

People will always be able to say what they want, we still have neo-nazi groups to this day, the thing that alarms me is that so many people have so many hateful things to say about gay people.

  • Speech is full of interolance against behaviors like drunk drivers, pediophiles, overeaters, sexists, homosexual behaviour, poligimists, & people who don't buckle their seat belts.

I'll bet you just thought to yourself that some of these "intolerances" are OK, and some aren't.

"Interolance" is usually just code for intolerance of behaviors which are fashionable with the left and not the right. And so "intolerance" is OK with you or not depending on which side of an issue it's on!?

  • "it's not us, it's them"

Is it lonely up there on your pedestal?

  • i know what your saying there are many hateful people out there but they dont see it u are so right.

  • delete them on your video and ignore hate videos

  • i think we should just ignore them...i mean if we do have that right to put our ideas so should they...but just ignore them. there really isnt anything to do...if you give haters more attention they will do it more...and either way there will always be ppl like that. thats what i think.

  • i'd say you should just not watch videos that you don't like, that way it's a positive place for everyone. If you don't like a video don't watch it. It's like in high school, if you are getting picked on or harrassed by people the logical thing to do is not be by them. just co-exist

  • If you want to change society, you have to speak up, to those who support and to those who hate you. You have to spread a message of acceptance, so just ignoring hateful remarks is not always the best way to go. But I think you're doing a great job of speaking out through your videos, you're a great example of how to counteract hate.

  • I personally think the word tolerance has become code for just put up with it because there's nothing you can do to change it. People write rude remarks or even say rude things out of fear and stupidity. They think that if they write some horrible remark, then whatever they're afraid of will disappear. To them it's a war, which is stupid.

You can't create change by staying silent. But you don't create change by attacking the haters either.

  • I wasn't going to comment, but after I watched your video I read a devotional that made me think about what you asked.

I agree with others that one way to deal with hate is to ignore it. People who type those comments are kind of like annoying little brothers who are just trying to get a rise out of you. If you ignore it, they move on to another target.

But that doesn't change their mind or their way of thinking.

  • The way I deal with hateful people is to just ignore them. I'm not gonna get all up in their face about their opinion because odds are i'm not gonna change it. Why should I waste my life on people who don't like me simply because of who I am?

  • warning!!! GAYLORDD!!!

  • Is Gaylord One Of Your Weird RuneScape Characters?

  • In my opinion tolerance alone is an incomplete word, a concept that only performs half the task.

The other half should be understanding and teaching. Show them why and in what you think they are wrong with calm. If they don't want to listen, well then it's no longer your problem, you tried.

  • To Morrigan0123. It actually a word that is both nice sounding and vague. The most abused type in current politics. "Nice sounding" gives it acceptance (and discourages opposition) and vagueness then allows it to be uses for whatever political purposes the user of the word wishes. Same as "diversity" which is most often used as a cover for favoring one race / culture over another.

  • Well, maybe, but in politics almost every concept ends up that way.

But that is politics, from the way GD said it, to me it sounded like he ment it to be a personal question. In my personal life i try to make it the way I said.

  • OH MY GOD, EXACTLY! its like asking if we should discriminate against people who discriminate. its free speech vs. stupidity and bigotry, and its really hard to take, but im not sure how else anyone can deal with it other than just say, oh well

  • this is tricky i gess theres not alot ppl can do just exsept it i dont meen 4 this coment 2 b seen as negative

  • Speech is full of interolance against behaviors like drunk drivers, pediophiles, overeaters, sexists, homosexual behaviour, poligimists, & people who don't buckle their seat belts.

I'll bet you just said that some of these "intolerances" are OK, and some aren't.

"Interolance" is usually just code for intolerance of behaviors which are fashionable with the left and not the right. And so "intolerance" is OK with you or not depending on which side of an issue it's on!?

  • Even if we do take down hateful message they will still appear more and more and it nothing that we can really do about it because people with the hateful messages are stupid and really need to think about the real life and what not just going to work for them

  • The only videos that should be taken down are ones that incite criminal activity e.g. encouraging violence against people or groups. Straight up ignorance and hatred is an unfortunate hazard of life and I think it's a waste of time to try and eradicate it.

  • quite often, we attract to us that which we hate.

  • freedom of speech, no matter how stupid, intolerant or hateful they are. if you don't agree with what they are saying, tell them.

    if they persist, you persist.

    they will eventually block

(yt option)themselves into a corner and die of loneliness.

  • let it happen and hope that through proper education they can change their fucked up paradigm

but hindering freedom of speech isnt going to change anything

  • well we don't have to watch those videos and we can just skip over those negative comments.

Free speech comes first. but i don't see the connection between free speech and personal security. IT'S YOUTUBE! just do what you want and do watch/read what you want. its that easy!

  • I agree. Just as surely a christian has the right to degrade homosexals for the sake of making themselves feel better, a homosexual has the right to retaliate a christian. That's the point of freed of speech. Silencing one or leads to silencing another. And I'm sure we all appreciate our right to speak. Silencing the "intolerant" would only allow us to live in this "fantasy" world that everyone is on one accord. And it's not that easy. That and we would just as easily be intolerant of diversity.

  • I definittely agree. Everybody has as much a right as anybody else to say what they want to say, whether mean or not. Silencing the things that are offensive will only hinder the right of free speech. Sometimes we jsut gotta ignore negative people, but we can't silence them. they do have a right to be negative, just as others have a righ to be positive

  • Exactly!

  • The whole point is 'free speech'. Whether you agree with it or not.

  • People who post nasty comments about other videos are only insecure with themselves. Because of this, these people want to bring others down to their level in order to make themselve feel worthy. We can't stop people from saying whatever they want, but there are always consequences for what we say, possible or hateful.

  • I think we should be able to post videos and write whatever we want, as long as it isn't threatening or dangerous. Sure, it's hurtful to some, but it's still their right to say it. Besides, maybe what is good to one is offensive to another. It works both ways. We all have to get over it, even if the other opinion may be completely stupid.

  • The way I deal with hate messages is just that I do my best to make them realize what they're saying is wrong, whether it's just commenting their page back, or whatever!

    I don't tolerate intolerance guess I might be a hypocrite :)

And as for free speech vs. security, I don't really understand how these two affect eachother if someone could enlighten me I'd be appreciative

  • Free speech has nothing to do with allowing "graffiti". If you own a building downtown you do not (legally) have to let others freely speak on it by painting gang names and "fallen members" names on the side of your apartment complex.

Relating to YouTube; YouTube does not have to let people "paint" (add comments or videos) their "buildings" (site and servers) with words and topics they do not agree with.

YouTube allows what speech it likes and can wash off the graffiti it does not enjoy.

  • "If you don't feel safe in your enviroment find a new one or adjust the one you have to suit your needs."

So if the KKK knocks at your doorstep you should run away to another state?

If it happens again uproot your family once more?

If it happens yet again flee the United States of America?

Why should homosexuals be forced to adjust to surrounding intolerances? Are we going Darwin's theory here? If they can't make it on their own they must die?

  • We are above natural selection to a point. You don't go into a convenience store and kill the shop owner to take the food you need (because that would make the store owner unsafe and thus probably make other store owners unsafe. The police would come and take the murderer away.)

  • cont. ...

I'm sure there are legal exceptions to "free speech" - slander for example is NOT protected by your first ammendment. Here in South Africa, unless I'm mistaken, hate speech is against the law but I'm not sure what offence it constitutes nor what penalty it carries if any.

  • Good video! :)

Firstly, what to do about intolerant videos/comments? Easy - don't read/watch them! And for goodness sake don't comment or flame them - that just serves the posters hateful purpose!

Secondly, should we tolerate intolerance? That depends - we must certainly allow people their opinions but as soon as they cause harm towards others, they cross the line and not only should we NOT tolerate any harm causing, we should proactively oppose it. cont. ...

  • Threats and false accusations should be off limits, but I don't think the expression of ideas should be suppressed even if we find them repulsive. Offensive ideas won't go away if you ban their expression. They just go underground and fester and become more insidious. The best weapon against bad speech is good speech.

  • What does the constitution read,You have the right to pursue happiness, and be free.Let your mind be the filter. If you don't feel safe in your enviroment find a new one or adjust the one you have to suit your needs.

  • We do have the right to free speach, but we don't have the right to make someone feel uncomfortable or unsafe. I have read some of the hateful comments and watched some videos, and that's exactly what they do. I think that in this event, the vlogger shouldn't be aloud to post anything and all videos should be removed. If we tolerate intolerance, we are sending a message that it's okay to hate. We should instead be sending the message that there is no place or time for intolerance. Thank you.

  • Freedom of a speech. basic as that. however as long as they are not completely rude and using awful rude words. I would leave them and just keep a distance from them. Sometimes they even could make you think, sometimes however people are just stupid :-/

  • I'm not sure if the first amendment of the U.S. applies to the internet...

  • FIghting fire with fire has never worked. If you lash out, you will be doing exactly what they want you to - if you respond negetivly at all. Just block them or ignore them - responding to them with another message will only give them a reason to write you back.

  • here is what you need to do, learn to ignore it.

Use the Block option or a simple idea of being above them who attack you. Eventually they will realize that they can't effect you and will give up....

  • Not certain? You are an American? In Britain the right of free speech is a theoretical proposition only. Actually you have (the public) very few rights. Government allows certain verbal expressions BUT it does not allow hate related comments. Indeed you can be put in prison for expressing these. This is because in law you are not free to limit other peoples assumed freedoms. Hope that makes sense? :)

  • Sorry I see you are an Australian! Doh! Well you tube does not allow complete uncensored videos or messages. Tollerance does not allow for intollerance, that is not a philisophical agenda. For example; Freedom does not allow for slavery etc. One proposition does not imply the acceptence of the opposite. YouTube fails to police itself as it suggests but will act to protect its own audit if this is breached and it learns of this fact. No you my not send hate mail par-se.

  • your hair is awesome lol

  • I think people have the right to voice their antigay views as long as it doesn't break the law by going into Hate Speech that is not protected by law. That can be a hard line to draw, but calling for violence is definitely a no no and should be fought.

I leave the nasty comments up on my videos to show others that we still have much work to do.

  • Hate speech isn't against the law in the U.S...

  • But there are certain things people are not allowed to say--that one can get in trouble for.

And if truly not, then there should be a line--I think one clear line would be drawn at when people call for violence.

  • I usually don't read other peoples comments, Just make my own comments and leave it at that and if I don't have nothing nice to say I don't say anything. I don't have time for HATE it takes to much energy. And as for bashers I've met a few and I'am sure they will never forget me I grew up with brothers if you get my drift.

  • freedom ends where others freedom begins. In other words freedom of speech, yes, everyone has the right to say what they think, believe, and want BUT is outside their right whenever they are compromising another person's right and integrity.

Also there are ways to say things, one thing is to say "F$%CK U GO TO HELL" or shit like that, and another is "I don't agree, my belief is that..."

I do think that the only intolerable thing is intolerance. We can't tolerate hate.

  • Loving messages. Hateful messages. Simple. Delete the hate, encourage the love. Why endure crap when you can encourage and nurture love? It's far easier and much more fulfilling to be positive and happy about the shit life gives you than to be all icky and nihilistic about it, eh? See them happy little buttons there that allow you to erase and block negativity from your life? Click 'em, and you'll be far happier. Who needs hateful people when, instead, you can have wonderful friends?

  • video response incoming tomorrow dan :P

crazy enough, i first started getting all my hate messages after posting video responses to you :p haha. well, before i became more popular and i only had like, 40 subscribers.

your haters kinda migrated over and became my hater too.

  • I mean im all for free speech but there point where that speaking their mind turn into forcing there opinion

  • I think if someone is going to be hateful they better have something to back it up with. If someone comments "you suck" for instance, that's just ignorant, and therefore we should not intolerate intolerance. However if that same person were to give reason why they thought you sucked, then I don't think we would have any choice but to tolerate their intolerance.

  • You can say just about anything to a point, it goes to yelling fire in a theater. Your speech (I could be wrong) can't cause real physical harm. IDK

  • Freedom of speech was a right given to us out of the notion that we might be able to enhance our lives by improving what is wrong in them. However, people seem to think that just because we have freedom of speech, we can tear each other down as we please. Hate messages are harmful to society and pass ignorant ideas to the masses. They should definately be deleted when found. Freedom of speech is meant to improve, not dismantle.

  • Hateful comments and hateful video responses are usually the venomous product of a small minority of YT viewers who have an insatiable need to "vent their spleen". They will take an opposing stance on anything for the sake of this need.

Yes, they should have the right.

The object of their hate just has to be a "teflon duck" and not take it personally.

To even answer their hateful comments just feeds their pathology.
