on another note check out his other preludes and fugues they are all incredible. great pieces to study to help your understanding and command of harmony, counterpoint and modulation.... an invaluable learning resource.
Its Bach's Prelude in D minor (BWV 926) from 27 seconds onwards originally wrote for his beginners book 12 petite preludes fugues. Bach Was a genius unprecedented. check it out.
Seems the title leads some people to confusion. BRO stands for Bach Rip Off. This is only Paul Gilbert having a sense of humor, which a lot of you don't seem to get. He used Bach as an example to be "ripped off" because of the style of the song he plays. It is of a classical style akin to many of Bach's pieces, but not only his, but of other composers as well. Paul also has YRO, which is Yngwie Rip Off. Same logic here. Using a similar sound/style with humor in the title.
@goodygoody23 All's one needs to do, to get the same tone is play with clarity. That is the secret. I have seen people with cheap practice amps sound amazing, and others with gibson's and Marshall amps that sound terrible, tone is built on clarity. Now that doesn't mean good equipment won't help your tone, because it will but in order for it to sound truly awesome every note must ring out clearly, and that takes practice.
@FireGXLOL i think you are the fucking retard. they are both amazing guitarists. but some people just like buckethead's speed and creativity more. other people like paul gilbert for other reasons. mainly because he doesn't wear a kfc bucket on his head and have a strange attraction to chickens. buckethead spans over lots of areas of music and a lot of people don't like that so they like paul gilbert better. they hear one song of atonic buckethead and they think all his songs are like that.
@Lavalole i think paul has more chops than bucket, which is fuckin inhuman. buckethead i think is a bit more versatile and creative, Paul doesn't seem to be able to go between as many styles and sounds.... both are amazing, amazing musicians.
@Lavalole Lol, Depends on what you are talking about, also I am pretty sure that Paul would admit that as a whole Buckethead is a better "Guitarist", but Paul does have it topped when it comes to... well I actually can't think of anything :) feel free to throw something at me that you believe Paul is better at, I will give you the classical aspect of music but other than that I've got nothing
I wasn't trying to say that this is a ripoff, I tried to explain the title B.R.O. which stands for B.ach R.ip O.ff for those who didnt know what the title stands for
anyways ya music is based on rippin off stuff from other musicians aka being inspired or not? you cant fully reinvent the whole thing
Music isn't based on ripping off stuff, it's based on innovation and expression, just like any other art form. Obviously, every musician is inspired by other musicians, but no style is ripped off of another musician, or at least not in Progressive or Neo-Classical music.
Paul Gilbert was bucketheads teacher so it wasn't a buckethead rip off, i guess it could be seen more as a bach rip off because its in kinda the same style, but I dont believe its a rip off of anything, that style of music doesnt belong to one person.

@Brettc824 Bucketheads had many teachers. He was with Paul for a very short period of time, by the time Bucket was done with the years or lessons and practice with Styles music in Pomona with Johnny fortune, Pebber etc he was already where he needed to be. Paul just happened to be the icing on the cake.
@Brettc824 actuall to inform you, YES bucket head was paul gilberts apprentice/ student. and for both of your informations, it is bach. its not a rip off its just a translate version of bachs piano sheet music to guitar, Bach's BMW 926
every song i hear from paul gilbert has a "classical" part in it. But I think he once said classical music inspired him. well, im glad it did, cuz there probably wont be any songs like these by paul gilbert
This song is a classical piece. i dont remeber what but i know that it is by JS Bach. so it doesnt have a classical "part" it is all classical. and he didnt say it once that classical music inspired him he said it many many many times. its obvious that it does.
Does that get you attention where you live? Is that why you call this cacophonous catawauling "music"?
While Tinitus is unfamiliar to me, I know rather a lot about Mozart, and would argue that music is more about composition and emotive convection than the banal operation an instrument. As such, some DJ's are most certainly musicians.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If you knew anything about music theory yourself, you'd know about the complex arpeggios being played in this song. Tinnitus is an ear condition that he has, where if he gets sound too loud in his ear, his ear drum could burst.
They create no music, thus they are not musicians. They are neither composers, conductors, nor performers. They are a means for an audience to listen to music, not unlike headphones.
You find no compositional or artistic difference between Barber's Adagio and Wiliam Orbit's cover? Between TImberlake's Lovestoned and Tiesto's mix?
Or would you suggest Orbit and Tiesto are just "ripping off" the artist and, by extension, thus condemn this Gilbert character under the same ruling?
And Cody, I never implied his playing was simple; I merely pointed out there's more to music than the banal operation of an instrument by the teenage misfits you throw your bra/banana hammock at.
then perhaps 'recompisition' is the word you're looking for.
I personally dont feel this brings anything new to the fore for dj's or paul. tiesto and orbit just represented their own interpretation of the songs at hand. same as paul in this situation. theyre all rip offs
Difference? Tiesto and Orbit use computers with looping programs and synths whilst paul had to practice ALL of his life, listen and translate each note to guitar from the sheet music. One of those takes talent and skill.
Skill is merely the result of training, requiring only dilligence. Talent and artistic insight, however --which cannot be taught-- define a piece, regardless of its original author.
There's a reason certain DJ's are huge and others fail, and it has nothing to do with technical skill, let alone the instrument's form.
Furthermore, missing one detail about one composer's biography is hardly indicative of total ignorance. Go sell cookies with your sister.
BANAL? YOU CALL THIS BANAL, YET YOU REFER JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE? You are now a castaway forever, never again to see light of music. Anywho, BANAL!? Have you ever heard anything like this on the radio? No. Have you heard anyone EVER play like Gilbert, let me answer this question for you also, NO.
*sigh* This argument has been had, and apparently you have failed to read it properly. You may wish to look the word up, but what I refer to as banal is the operation of a instrument, which is nothing more than years of practise. Men are born with music, men are not born with instrrument skills.
And indeed I have never met nor heard anyone produce souch hideous noise as the electric guitar, Gilbert or otherwise, favouring instead the softer, smoother tonality of synthetic sounds.
You're talking about favoring more natural sounds, and you say you like the synthetic sounds better? Synthetic sounds, such as a synthesizer, I presume. Synthetic music is the frontman of unnatural sounds. By the way, I am pretty sure Banal means trite (overused). Anyway, I like to listen to music that cannot be replicated by someone with no skill on any level other than being able to click a few buttons on a computer, or turn a knob on a synthesizer.
Putting aside for a moment your ardent demonstration of having no idea how trance is composed, do you realise that en electric guitar is juist that? Without the synthesizing equipment attached to it, an electric guitar sounds hilariously tinny and small. Ergo : inherently synthesised. And yes, the plucking of strings is inherently a bit trite.
On another note, I make no mention of natural sounds, I would in fact contest that my preference is specifically NOT natural sounds. Synthetic = fluid
What synthesizing equipment is attached here? There is EQ and Distortion. Also, on a side note, I don't know why the hell I was talking about natural sounds, must've heard it somewhere else. If you ask me, it doesn't take much talent to 'compose' a song by simply selecting a note for a scale to run, and then looping them together. And if Trance is not composed in this way, I'd be interested in hearing how it is, as I don't listen to trance, and feel like killing my gf when she has techno on.
Okay, yes, you are correct, but 'modulating' is not a skill. Modulating a sound can be automated completely by merely selecting a scale base and octave, rather, when you're playing a guitar or an instrument, you are applying the skill.
The skill as a learned behaviour I will admit lies in nothing more than repetition. Know anyone talented at tying shoes? Tying a half windor? Blowing his nose? These are all learned behaviours, much like plucking a string with one hand and restraining the resultant vibrations with the other at a particular point.
Skill you can teach. Talent you can not.
And please, fel free to show me any "completely automated" trance, that sells out a 250K capacity stadium. I might even like it :oD
You have just proven to me that you have never played a guitar. It is not just plucking random strings, it is arpeggios, runs from scales that you must acquaint yourself with. You must have creativity to be able to make something sound good on the guitar, whilst actually running through a scale or chord or such, while doing the electronic music, you still need creativity for a good sound, but not as much skill, or talent, in my opinion.
Now visualise that my grasp of guitar playing is less than incongruous with yours of trance, and you see where I was going with this to begin with. ^_^
I understand what you were saying, but that does not change the fact that Paul Gilbert's music has more dense harmonious arpeggios than any techno song that I have ever heard. It IS all point of preference, but I feel, for some reason yours is tainted, as you like only synthetic music, I just cannot fathom why. Anyway, thanks for replying.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
you suck big time, keyboard fuckin sucks, and its so much easier, anybody can learn a simple tune on that in 3 mins flat, whereas have you ever seen a beginner play guitar?? completely fucked up, so shut up you playan easy, shit sounding, instrument.
YOU ARE UNBELIVABLY IGNORANT! Synthesis? what Synthesis!? the sound you are hearing is of a solid body guitar plugged into a vacuum tube amplifier which is cause the NATURAL SIGNAL to be clipped or "distorted". everything your hearing is completly analog. tinny and small? with out the complex osillators and modulator attached to it, the sound of a keyboard is the sound of a plastic key hitting a contact sensor. Wow! talk about gorgeous tone! go drop acid and klang on a synth you moron.
Hysterics are win. Naturally, by extension, you losing your temper makes you right.
If you can make a that guitar sound like that without the electromagnets, I'll retract.
Furthermore, you may wish to revise your definition of trance, if you think a synth keyboard is involved. You probably mean garage electro, the chessclub equivalent of a high school band., Care to point out where I suggested trance is natural sound or worth anything "unplugged"?
Why is this relevant in any way/shape/form? who cares! go listen to "trace" or what ever you do and stop Trolling. Trance is not natural or good or music. it takes 1/1,000,000th the talent of paul gilbert to play and 1,000,000x his ignorance to injoy. you know nothing about music and are blind to natural talent so listen to some of your noise and leave real music to those smarter than yourself
While I am charmed by your Milnesque capitalising Trolling, I find every subsequent conclusion not only fascetious, but inherently lazy. You just haven't done the math, dear boy! xD
Leave! just stop being snooty and using your dumb big words trying to prove your smart, and leave! go back too your music and leave us alone. don't respond to this post!
Hmm too bad you couldent resist the urge to respond to my comment. oh well we can always use one more ignorant techno-fan to get a few good laughs from. its especially funny when you pretend to know something you are quite honestly to stupid to comprehend(ie Gilberts music, guitar playing, or even how a guitar works). but im glad i could give your mom and dad a good laugh, they need it after most likely going braindead after suffering through the music you so Hilariously enjoy. Good day :)
It's a frat house, in case the pisstake hadn't clued you in, but as to the technical operation of an electric guitar, I'm rather well aware of it as an engineering student.
That you attribute a threshold of intellect to the awareness of --barring for a moment the eventuality that anyone incapable of understanding elementary mechanics would even encounter the subject matter-- a concept as old as the dynamo amazes me, but I find solace in your incessant need to project intellectual inferiority.
what the hell are you talking about!? Dynamo? WTF!? this has nothing to do with the conversation! i was asking you to quite trolling on this vid and quite insulting gilbert and his music. you are completely the most retarded person i have ever had the misfortion of sharing a chat with. im literaly spellbound by your stupidity. can i ask you somthing? what was your point of posting here? what did you want to express or hope to accomplish? P.S. your in a frat house, yet your on youtube, pathetic.
Tell you what, Snake. Go back to school, if you're so in love with red thinking. Go DESERVE the amount your party wants to spend on you. Otherwise at least leave adults to their discussions and go back to your cushy parental bubble and your respect for feelings, whatever makes you not jump off things.
But for the love of The Bard pick up a dictionary, SAT toiletpaper, or SOMETHING, mate. Seriously. You make me worry "Idiocracy" might actually come TRUE! o_O
HA HA HA HA, I am done talking to you, sorry, I know I have been having an intelligent argument with you, but I just saw this comment, and you are Right Wing, you hate freedom, you have to have some mental illness. Anywho, thanks, for argument's sake, replying to my comments with some knowledge of what mechanically happens with a guitar.. but I just feel that you are a little narrow minded when it comes to music. And I DO like some techno, I just don't like the amount of effort that it requires
And I in turn thank you, Cody, for keeping your head and broadening my view. While I understand your populist misassociating of anything Right with the religious right, I muster wonder if you know of Sarkozy and how he handles France. His masterstroke, ending the dogmatic leftist beatification of the 35 hour workweek, is an utterly unreligious move, and he made no mention of any deity in implementing this measure. It is however, easily the most ardent right wing move Europe has seen in 20 years.
Hmm, okay, I do not want to start a political talk on this Paul Gilbert video, but that is interesting, and I will have to look into it, I am a left-anarchist, so for the most part... I am willing to consider others ideals, however, I have one in mind, I will check out Sarkozy.
yeah, my bad! i realised that after i posted it. But it worked for me because it just proved that PGM992 has NO knowledge of music whatsoever coz he didnt pick up on it.
That's odd, I thought that we were on the same page, "sux0rz."
Plus, blaming me for not picking up on your ignorance is..well, ignorant. Perhaps more shocking (although still irrelevant) is that Mr. "I know rather a lot about Mozart" didn't manage to find that fault in your argument.
1. Your reading my comment 2. Now your saying/thinking thats a stupid fact. 4. You didnt notice that i skipped 3. 5. Your checking it now. 6. Your smiling. 7. Your still reading my comment. 8.
InservioLetum 2 years ago
then perhaps 'recompisition' is the word you're looking for.
One of those takes talent and skill.
sux0rz 2 years ago
Correction : both require skill.
InservioLetum 2 years ago
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
*sigh* This argument has been had, and apparently you have failed to read it properly. You may wish to look the word up, but what I refer to as banal is the operation of a instrument, which is nothing more than years of practise. Men are born with music, men are not born with instrrument skills.
And indeed I have never met nor heard anyone produce souch hideous noise as the electric guitar, Gilbert or otherwise, favouring instead the softer, smoother tonality of synthetic sounds.
InservioLetum 2 years ago
You're talking about favoring more natural sounds, and you say you like the synthetic sounds better? Synthetic sounds, such as a synthesizer, I presume. Synthetic music is the frontman of unnatural sounds. By the way, I am pretty sure Banal means trite (overused). Anyway, I like to listen to music that cannot be replicated by someone with no skill on any level other than being able to click a few buttons on a computer, or turn a knob on a synthesizer.
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
Putting aside for a moment your ardent demonstration of having no idea how trance is composed, do you realise that en electric guitar is juist that? Without the synthesizing equipment attached to it, an electric guitar sounds hilariously tinny and small. Ergo : inherently synthesised. And yes, the plucking of strings is inherently a bit trite.
On another note, I make no mention of natural sounds, I would in fact contest that my preference is specifically NOT natural sounds. Synthetic = fluid
InservioLetum 2 years ago
What synthesizing equipment is attached here? There is EQ and Distortion. Also, on a side note, I don't know why the hell I was talking about natural sounds, must've heard it somewhere else. If you ask me, it doesn't take much talent to 'compose' a song by simply selecting a note for a scale to run, and then looping them together. And if Trance is not composed in this way, I'd be interested in hearing how it is, as I don't listen to trance, and feel like killing my gf when she has techno on.
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
Well if I can so bold as to oversimplify here....
Playing a guitar is plucking a string and putting the skill to work there, and letting equipment handle what that pluck sounds like.
Trance is putting equipment to work on the pluck, and focusing on modulation what the tone itself sounds like.
^_^
InservioLetum 2 years ago
Okay, yes, you are correct, but 'modulating' is not a skill. Modulating a sound can be automated completely by merely selecting a scale base and octave, rather, when you're playing a guitar or an instrument, you are applying the skill.
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
The skill as a learned behaviour I will admit lies in nothing more than repetition. Know anyone talented at tying shoes? Tying a half windor? Blowing his nose? These are all learned behaviours, much like plucking a string with one hand and restraining the resultant vibrations with the other at a particular point.
Skill you can teach. Talent you can not.
And please, fel free to show me any "completely automated" trance, that sells out a 250K capacity stadium. I might even like it :oD
InservioLetum 2 years ago
You have just proven to me that you have never played a guitar. It is not just plucking random strings, it is arpeggios, runs from scales that you must acquaint yourself with. You must have creativity to be able to make something sound good on the guitar, whilst actually running through a scale or chord or such, while doing the electronic music, you still need creativity for a good sound, but not as much skill, or talent, in my opinion.
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
Ah, but I never said I had now, did I? :)
Now visualise that my grasp of guitar playing is less than incongruous with yours of trance, and you see where I was going with this to begin with. ^_^
InservioLetum 2 years ago
I understand what you were saying, but that does not change the fact that Paul Gilbert's music has more dense harmonious arpeggios than any techno song that I have ever heard. It IS all point of preference, but I feel, for some reason yours is tainted, as you like only synthetic music, I just cannot fathom why. Anyway, thanks for replying.
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
yeo, is paul gilbert doing legato on this? or hes speedpicking all of it? REPLY BACK ASAP PLEASE =D

you suck big time, keyboard fuckin sucks, and its so much easier, anybody can learn a simple tune on that in 3 mins flat, whereas have you ever seen a beginner play guitar?? completely fucked up, so shut up you playan easy, shit sounding, instrument.
stavsantis 2 years ago
Wow, you're an angry fucker.
But did you know that playing piano is a very good place to start playing an instrument?
And you're right, anyone can learn a simple tune in 3 MINUTES. Try something difficult you dunce.
Now remember this is not me dissing Gilbert, or Guitar at all. This is me dissing you because you are stupid.

Snakebite1138 2 years ago
Hysterics are win. Naturally, by extension, you losing your temper makes you right.
If you can make a that guitar sound like that without the electromagnets, I'll retract.
Furthermore, you may wish to revise your definition of trance, if you think a synth keyboard is involved. You probably mean garage electro, the chessclub equivalent of a high school band., Care to point out where I suggested trance is natural sound or worth anything "unplugged"?
InservioLetum 2 years ago
Why is this relevant in any way/shape/form? who cares! go listen to "trace" or what ever you do and stop Trolling. Trance is not natural or good or music. it takes 1/1,000,000th the talent of paul gilbert to play and 1,000,000x his ignorance to injoy. you know nothing about music and are blind to natural talent so listen to some of your noise and leave real music to those smarter than yourself
Snakebite1138 2 years ago
There. Feel better now? All done venting?
While I am charmed by your Milnesque capitalising Trolling, I find every subsequent conclusion not only fascetious, but inherently lazy. You just haven't done the math, dear boy! xD
InservioLetum 2 years ago
Leave! just stop being snooty and using your dumb big words trying to prove your smart, and leave! go back too your music and leave us alone. don't respond to this post!

Aw? But you've had us in stitches for DAYS kiddo! This is a running joke in our house! xD
InservioLetum 2 years ago
Hmm too bad you couldent resist the urge to respond to my comment. oh well we can always use one more ignorant techno-fan to get a few good laughs from. its especially funny when you pretend to know something you are quite honestly to stupid to comprehend(ie Gilberts music, guitar playing, or even how a guitar works). but im glad i could give your mom and dad a good laugh, they need it after most likely going braindead after suffering through the music you so Hilariously enjoy. Good day :)
Snakebite1138 2 years ago
It's a frat house, in case the pisstake hadn't clued you in, but as to the technical operation of an electric guitar, I'm rather well aware of it as an engineering student.
That you attribute a threshold of intellect to the awareness of --barring for a moment the eventuality that anyone incapable of understanding elementary mechanics would even encounter the subject matter-- a concept as old as the dynamo amazes me, but I find solace in your incessant need to project intellectual inferiority.
InservioLetum 2 years ago
what the hell are you talking about!? Dynamo? WTF!? this has nothing to do with the conversation! i was asking you to quite trolling on this vid and quite insulting gilbert and his music. you are completely the most retarded person i have ever had the misfortion of sharing a chat with. im literaly spellbound by your stupidity. can i ask you somthing? what was your point of posting here? what did you want to express or hope to accomplish? P.S. your in a frat house, yet your on youtube, pathetic.
Snakebite1138 2 years ago
1) Look up what a dynamo is. Correlary to an electric guitar isn't exactly far-fetched.
2) I expressed distaste for the music, and said nothing of the man, much less slandered him.
3) you honestly want to accuse someone of being stupid with that level of english?
4) I posted in shock that this was the noise my mate was referring to as grinding or whatever. Some random verb.
5) with the rise of the left the last 50yrs I doubt I am the "most retarded" person you've met.
6) "asking"?
InservioLetum 2 years ago
oh your a right wing fag! now i get it! lol good by loser.

*sigh*
Tell you what, Snake. Go back to school, if you're so in love with red thinking. Go DESERVE the amount your party wants to spend on you. Otherwise at least leave adults to their discussions and go back to your cushy parental bubble and your respect for feelings, whatever makes you not jump off things.
But for the love of The Bard pick up a dictionary, SAT toiletpaper, or SOMETHING, mate. Seriously. You make me worry "Idiocracy" might actually come TRUE! o_O
InservioLetum 2 years ago
HA HA HA HA, I am done talking to you, sorry, I know I have been having an intelligent argument with you, but I just saw this comment, and you are Right Wing, you hate freedom, you have to have some mental illness. Anywho, thanks, for argument's sake, replying to my comments with some knowledge of what mechanically happens with a guitar.. but I just feel that you are a little narrow minded when it comes to music. And I DO like some techno, I just don't like the amount of effort that it requires
CodyAllenmusic 2 years ago
And I in turn thank you, Cody, for keeping your head and broadening my view. While I understand your populist misassociating of anything Right with the religious right, I muster wonder if you know of Sarkozy and how he handles France. His masterstroke, ending the dogmatic leftist beatification of the 35 hour workweek, is an utterly unreligious move, and he made no mention of any deity in implementing this measure. It is however, easily the most ardent right wing move Europe has seen in 20 years.
InservioLetum 2 years ago
Hmm, okay, I do not want to start a political talk on this Paul Gilbert video, but that is interesting, and I will have to look into it, I am a left-anarchist, so for the most part... I am willing to consider others ideals, however, I have one in mind, I will check out Sarkozy.

In any case. Look up musician in a dictionary.
