My cure for "depression" is relaxation, I personally don't believe in "depression" but I do believe in your mind getting overwhelmed which makes you feel like crap.
@CaptainRetardify "your mind getting overwhelmed which makes you feel like crap." is kind of the definition for the word depressed. So you do believe in depression, you just think it means something else.
ive had high blood pressure all day bc im really stressed out about this guy i like, but i swear, ive been listening to different stuff tonight and ended up on porcupine tree. after this song i bet if i checked it it'd be drastically lower. haha i love pt!!!
@kainbloodlust check out trains, arriving somewhere but not here, nine cats, blackest eyes, fear of a blank planet and moon touches your shoulder. it will be worth your while.
I used to smoke weed, drink beer, drop acid, eat shrooms, drink ayahuasca, vape dmt, snort blow, drink belladonna, and then I found Porcupine Tree, best drug ever. Been sober ever since.
not sure i get the 'positive' message in this song, but that's just me. this song always seemed to have the ability to take me way too deeply into the life of a sickly child's suffering and longing to be out and about with his friends. but hey, this is art... and we're all bound to feel different stuff from it.
@jezza09187 Oh most definitely. Certainly one of my top five from the past fifteen years or so. This album will always be special to me because I remember the circumstances of my life at around the time. Soon after I saw PT live twice, met Steve Wilson in person. The live show in Philly is one of my best live experiences ever. They just kicked major butt. Few bands display the kind of honesty, emotional depth and power that PT does. It's rare for any band but especially newer bands.
@Achw3l Because you're supposed to buy the whole album, dude and listen to the rest of the awesome songs on it. If you can't find it in record stores, it's pretty easy to find online.
wow just discovered this band...one of my students recommended them...love this music...to PTlover647...I am sorry man...but given my lifestyle, we can laugh about it later...when I join you
Isurus, an original and progressive rock band based in South London, are looking for a vocalist. We have a professionally equipped studio. Currently, we are a guitarist, bassist, and drummer and are looking for a likeminded singer to complete our lineup - someone versatile with a great voice (think Maynard James Keenan, Mike Patton, James Labrie, etc).
@senecadawg2; I suggest that you listen to all of PT's songs, make a running list of all the ones you really like, then purchase and download them from amazon or itunes. This way you only pay for the songs you really want. You can then burn them to a CD for vehicle listening and other uses. Yes, PT is an awesome band, one of the very best of all time, in my humble opinion. My fave tunes are "Always Never", "Trains", "Blackest Eyes", "Lightbulb Sun", "Even Less", "Fadeaway" and "Prodigal".
I have a serious problem!! I discovered this band an hour ago and I have been listening to different songs randomly. Songs from different albums... I love them all but I want to buy a cd. It seems that no matter what cd i get I will be missing out on a beautiful song like this one... So which cd should i look for as a starter? considering that they all sound great so far.
For the first one though, just pick one at random which you fill that you are gonna like, every single of them is absolutely amazing so it isn't important which you choose first since every single will blow your mind anyways.
@senecadawg2 I had the same problem a while back, but luckily PT has no bad songs. :)
Really just search for as much as you can. It's all amazing. Just be aware that the farther back to PT's origins you go the more psychedelic the music will get, and the closer you get to present day the heavier it gets. Lightbulb sun is a nice middle ground.
idk bout u guys but i keep listening to Porcupne Tree and i dont find anything related to Pink Floyd, only in their early beginnings some pieces may be a lil bit infleunced by them but this is nothing like Pink floyd!!!!!!!!!! not being a hter though, just sayin
@Restayvien well perhaps in finding out what is depressing me, i would be able to figure out how to change it, and then i wont need any song at all :)
All these comments about the emotional power of this song in total are so true, and I relate deeply because of my own illness. But I want to also declare that Lightbulb Sun has the most beautiful bass line of any song I've ever heard.
whenever I listen to Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson's solo album It just reaches into my soul and makes me wonder about life and living it. This kind of music just makes me feel better about myself and life around me. It makes me feel so alive despite anything that happened in the past.
Few things in life are worth a damm for me...im depressed, sad, but PT is there...i agree, musically theyre beautifully depressing, but they give me hope. they allow me to find the beauty in sorrow (does that sound vaguely familiar??)
i think this album is above all the mellowest of all Porcupine tree albums....but it still amazes me to this day. i am eternally grateful to have all their albums:)
tends to happen to any music. get stoned and listen to lil' wayne's album rebirth, it's so terrible but when i got high and listened to it it was...okay. but it was better!
Well obviously i had heard of Riverside before Porcupine Tree, thats why i made the statement i did. I think both bands are amazing for very different reasons.
This song is so beautiful to me...... Lately I have been very sick (as in life threatening sick) and I'm not sure how much longer I'll be around....... if you think about it, this is a song about a sick boy, who can never get out of bed, so to him the sun is a lightbulb..... This song just gives me hope that......you know, I'm not alone. There are other people like me out there also...... PT ROX MY SOX!!!!!!
I totally agree. It's amazing how much music can touch people differently. I'm not life-threateningly ill, but I can imagine myself in your shoes, listening to this song. This whole album blows my mind away. I give you all my love and support and hope for the best for you, PTLover.
Get well man. When I felt very bad about life (kinda a depression) I was listening to Porcupine Tree, and PT gave me hope, I was feeling better while listenning their songs.

@PTLover647 I really have not much to say, no words can compare with what you have or how you feel but I heartly wish you get well, just please never throw the towel and think that you wont be around much longer... you will.
