  • is this south shields?

  • 2293 views on this video , I have just commented on a class 70 video that I would love to see one climb this incline , I have also told the viewers to look at this video , Brian

ps hope you are still working hard mate - and thanks for making this video after I kept pestering you to do it :)

  • How steep is this climb?

  • 1 in 37 , the 9fs used to need bankers when they were running to Consett with the iron ore trains in the 60 s. My grandad used to drive them , he did 46 years on the footplate.

  • Can you help me with the term footplate. I've been an engineer (or engineer trainer) for 30 years in the US but curious as to what this term means.

  • footplate is what the driver and fireman used to stand on when driving a steam train. I then used the term to mean driving diesel trains also.

  • Thanks. I've been railroading 30 years but this one escaped me.

  • Cawky22:

My great grandfather used to run tyne dock to consett as well as east coast scotsman service. I know he did atleast 45 years. They probably knew each other!

  • that driver vigilance device sounds a pain in the arse

  • i thought the amps would be high. when ive seen the 66's pass the dump

  • The class 66 manual states that the ammeter needle shouldn't remain in the red section for any more than a few seconds. Don't imagine the traction motors would have much of a lifespan at that rate.

  • How does it stick the amps being in the red for so long, or is that normal??

  • I heard that a couple of weeks ago 64 trains left Tyne dock in a week=96000 tons WOW

  • Sounds about right ,don't get to see tyne dck list anymore as GB are contracted to TP are trains now.

  • TP?

  • train prepare us loading running train brake test if needed etc etc.

  • I thought the first letter was T for train , but was not sure what the P was , thanks for the reply.Any more videos ?

  • I was talking to the TP man this afternoon at Tyne Dock, there was two freighliners in the dock area, one on its way out, I asked were it was going and he said "Cottam" he also told me that there was 70 a week leaving and they weight was 2200 tons full , but the empty trains weight was 500 tons.

  • 19 wagsons comes in at 513 tons 640 when you add loco at 127t's,1938t's loaded + loco gives a wieght off 2065t's

  • I am sure he loco was 66553 today

  • is that a class 66?

  • Most definately a class 66!

  • At 5minutes and 6 seconds the driver shows us the number of the loco 66553

  • Execellent video , is that engine realy pulling its guts out or is that normal usage of the engine?

    Keep the videos coming mate.

  • yes sorry cawky family death, right the best way to come out of tyne dck is in slow speed as you are weighing off at 5mph till the council depot on the left, then put the speed up to 10mph which puts you all the way in the red that way you get a decent ride out without slipping.
