  • I discovered this recording in form of an old cassette I bought from St. Vinny's for about 60 cents. But then my walkman stopped playing tapes, so I'm very glad indeed that it's uploaded on youtube now. :)

  • @GiantPetRat I'm sure that was not this particular recording. Ms Chung recorded Bartok No.2 twice; first with Solti in 1976, and the second with Rattle in 1994 (this version won Gramophone award). I'd guess your cassette tape was either of the two unless it had been from some pirate source.

  • @twofinedays Hmm... I believe the date on the tape was 1982.

  • @GiantPetRat Thanks...great thanks...for best violin performance...HAVE A GOOD TIME....jzpatelut....

  • my violin teacher tried to convince me to learn this piece. it's fantastic but no thanks...i don't want to torture myself hahahaha.

  • I never heard it more perfect!

  • Fantastic music! Fantastic violinist! What a revelation!

  • Blue Flowers!

  • @MountApple hahaha! Yeah! I got that too! lol

  • heard this lady play this on a record in Blackburn Library 30 years ago. As insperational then as it is now' Wonderful¬

  • Incredible! K.W.C. playing VC#2 is what got me into Bartok.

  • Fantastic Piece! Fantastic Violinist! --Thanks for posting! -Any recording available to post of her Bartok Vln Cto #1?? - (hope so. .. ) Cheers!

  • Most outstanding. Thank you for posting this wonderful excerpt.

  • amazing. i love how the camera is right up close to her so you can see what she plays

  • Defenetly on of the top five greatest violinconcertos of the 20th centunery.

  • Chung needs to be admired as much as any of the great violinists; this is great playing, musical, and stylish, of one of the great violin concertos. What an opening!

  • she is beautiful. she plays this beautifully. she has an incredible bow grip. her interpretation is a revelation! bravo!

  • premiered in Amsterdam on march 23, 1939 by request of his friend violinist Zoltán Székely and composed by hungarian author Bela Bartók, it's a work of virtuosistic writing

  • Greatest living interpreter of this concerto, IMHO.

  • Chung's is definitely one of the best. here's the thing though, the Bartok 2 is horrendously difficult technically. The first thing you have to conquer are the gargantuan technical hurdles. And that's not something that many have been able to do. The only performances/recordings of it, other than Chung's, that have satisfied me, have been those of the 18 year old Midori. Midori's are spectacular, like she doesn't even notice the difficulties. I can't say the same for Menuhin's or Zukerman's!

  • @balanchinemachine

    Ever heard Igor Oistrakh ?

  • @balanchinemachine listen to Gitlis man

  • this looks like the Kubelik Stradivarius she once upon a time played!!!!! very cool n nice!!!

  • del gesu

  • She has both

  • she used to play on the Stradivarius Harrison. Kubelik is the name of her del-gesu.

  • Isn't that the one that Michael Rabin played?

  • Captivating!

  • wow! She plays Bartok so well!

  • Great!
